Understaffed, overworked, no refuge from the heat, working in disgusting conditions, the list goes on. The city doesn’t have enough trucks and equipment to deal with the trash issue. Before this happened I remember constantly hearing about the locals complaining about trash piling up, along with several news stories about trash pickup problems, so one is left to assume the city, didn’t properly address the problem they just told those that do work there to work harder, longer and more efficiently at the same time, I’m also assuming they don’t provide ice and water for the workers. The heat is no joke, telling someone who has passed out already to get back to work is absurdity and irresponsible. The minute someone passes out the work needs to stop and they need to be treated properly. There’s simple guidelines that confirm heat related illnesses and treatments, I am sure the DPW leadership was told to address the trash pile up issue no matter the costs. Hiring more people, buying more trucks and equipment would help, but also having safer work practices would stop people from having heat issues, like adjusting the schedule to prevent working during peak heat hours, taking breaks every 30 minutes with cool water and a few minutes out of the heat. The productive hours would drop but you wouldn’t have guys falling out because they’re pressured to get the job done. So sad.
The light of truth exposes all
