- Tremec 3650 from an 05 Mustang GT. Almost identical to the 2001 - 2004 units. Was run dry. I'll be disassembling it to fix the broken parts. I may or may not be replacing the synchros so I'm not sure yet.
How would you just swap the input shaft?
These transmissions don’t like synthetic fluid. Try to find mercon 1. I’ve don’t done 2 Fluid changes with mercon 1 and the trans still runs great. Smooth shifts at 105000’milws. Hell I still have the stock clutch.
People please don’t use redline or Mobil 1 or royal purple thinking you’re putting in great fluid cuz it’s expensive. Those fluids eat the synchros. Just use mercon I dex iii. Trust me. You’ll never have to worry about syncro failure
i have a tremec t45 transmission that reverse locked up on me. i pulled trans last night. any videos you suggest. i have 0 experience with rebuilding transmissions but im good at learning new skills
Did you make part 2 of the tr3650
Jeremy thompson you got tjis trans for parts still
Output shaft flange nut size ?
Can you remove the back half with out removing the Transmisioon?
tr3650 on my 01 cobra the input shaft that has 0 play up,down, left, right, back or forth.. It turns like butter butter but sounds a bit louder than what that t5 sounds like at 5:03 . it could just be camera not picking up all the little noises it makes and/or it's different transmissions. I know little about the tr3650, It could just be noisy tranny,i'm gonna change tranny fluid because I don't know what is in it. entire car is stock with 40k miles on it.
I'm nearly certain it can't be swapped, mainshaft may be different length, and shift rails. plus the older ones use a slip yoke, newer ones use a bolt on one
I need that 3 an 4 shift gate
@@QuidvilleCreations sorry got rid of all my 3650 stuff a long time ago
would i be able to put one of these on a fe engine
Are you still putting out great videos!
I haven't done a video yet, however I just used the tremec manual I downloaded. wasnt bad
no need to necessarily spend that much. pull the entire thing apart and inspect it first. inspect condition of bearings. Usually bearings last 200k miles or more. often you can get away with just replacing the one bearing
Can you reseal the back half without removing the transmission?
Now I don't feel so bad about my workbench!!! Thanks for that at least... Jk... This was helpful.
I bought an 05 mustang gt with 64k miles. My transmission never had that whirring sound from the input shaft until 500 miles in, I should have gotten my fluid changed immediately but i trusted my used car dealership. Now that ive flushed it my first second and 3rd gear all sound like shit and clunk around. You're right though, nobody changes fluid.
4.6v8gang sounds like your input shaft and cluster shaft are worn from low fluid. Sadly those parts are obsolete now. You'll probably have to find another trans or upgrade to a tko or T56 magnum
Did you make part 2 of the tr3650 ?
Sorry unfortunately no. That trans was trashed, and I decided not to build any more 3650s
I purchased an 05 trans like this one but sounds like the input bearing is shot, shifts smooth can I get away with a 300 bearing and seal kit? will I need to reshim? trusted a hooah said 10k miles it's good.
hi Jeremy thank you for the video I just want to remove the input shaft bearing what would need to come out in order to get to that bearin? I was told to just remove 12 bellhousing bolts and the three detent plugs on the side.
A L been a long time since I've done one of these. I'm pretty sure it all has to come apart to get to the input
Hey Jeremy I got a tr3650 and I dropped it from the mustang my input shaft is making a noise and don’t know if its normal to do that I have a 10 sec video it’s on my TH-cam channel can u help me
Dustin, I may have a bell if you still need it
Do you know if that tail end can be swapped with the older 3650? I have an 05 for a project build but it is too long when you take into account of the shifter.
I cracked the tail shaft housing on my 04 GT with the 5 Speed 3650 trans.. Can I just pull the taill like you did at 12:50? and swap it , or is there anything else id need to do
Sean Colon ya they're pretty easy to swap. Just put it in neutral.
@@v8only Thank you! ill try this over the weekend
Do you have any extra bell housing laying around for 01-04 gt to the TR3650?
hope you still check comments: how hard to change input shaft seal on 03 mustang gt tr3650? lay flat once out, pull off bell housing replace seal? gears come shooting out?
It's been a long while since I touched one of these however I remember the input shaft is buried and doesn't come out the front easily like a t5/tko/T56. You have to disassemble them all the way down to get to it and the seal
@@v8only ok, thank you brother for replying.
Chris Davis sorry it wasn't better news. The 3650 is an aweful trans especially to take apart. Honestly if you can find a T45 they're better and I think they're pretty much a straight swap. You just have to match the Speedo up. Electric vs mechanical
@@v8only t45 might be cheaper too. i couldnt really find anything on the 01-04 tr3650 online. except how to replace....i thought the 3650 was a better trans than the t45....
@@v8only gotcha. alright man, thank you for your time and info. really appreciate it. my input shaft seal leaks like a mother so gotta figure my next move. thanks again.
I’ve rebuilt some spicers and Eatons, which all the gears are timed and they are non-synchronized I have never done a synchro trans is it timed, more difficult than a 10
Speed or do you know?
Fat Knuckles Productions sorry never done a 10 speed or any of the ones you mentioned. However these aren't difficult if you already have basic knowledge how gearboxes work
What fluid should go in this ?
Dex/merc or dex 3
I have a 2005 gt with a manual. On occasion I hear a light thud when putting into first after coming to a stop. Everything runs smooth and not difficult at all to get it into and gear. Is that normal? Got about 102000 Miles on it.
I change my fluid every 45k with mercon 1. The stuff is getting harder to find and don’t want to use anything synthetic. I hear synthetic destroys the 3650
Kevinb1821 a noise like that is never normal. Are you sure it's coming from trans and not u joints or rear end?
You’re awesome
hi. i switched gears and grinded the shift. between 2nd and 3rd gear at near redline RPM. afterwards, very difficult to switch into reverse and also notchy shifting in other gears now. but does shift. ideas? appreciate it. 2008 Mustang GT.
james liu synchro may be the issue however sounds like your clutch isn't releasing all the way. Need to tighten your clutch adjustment
Jeremy Thompson thx for quick response. this fix is beyond my capabilities. can you recommend best shop for repair...i.e., transmission shop, or independent general repair auto shop, or dealer? also any idea of approx cost? thx for your input friend...btw nice vid!
james liu 714 981 7563. Jose. He's got a mustang shop
Jeremy Thompson thx friend. 714 area code...Orange County california?
james liu orange la area
don't think so, but not completely sure, sorry
Oolp I'm getting motion sickness
hello i need my tr3650e also could you get me together
Sorry don’t understand your question
an oil change will fix that
man. come on. it a nylock nut, not a teflon seal. you can rebuild a trans but don't know that? if you turn the flange as you tap not beat no it it is more likely to come off.
jason birch lmao, ppl will bitch about anything....
no, try Anaheim gear
Jeremy Thompson could I send you a video of my transmission input shaft. No large amount of side to side, up and down, or in and out play but turning it back and forth gives a noise but only one direction song
Won't*
Little tip...get a cheap tripod for your cam.
