They Finally Announced the Ghost of Tsushima Sequel - My Thoughts on "Ghost of Yōtei"

- I know I'm about a day late to publishing a video on this topic, like I said I didn't even know they'd announced the game until a solid 22 hours after the announcement courtesy of living under a rock. However, Ghost of Yotei isn't quite what I'd expected from a sequel to the 2020 title by the look of it and I'm not exactly too upset about that.

I can't wait to do the *hypothetical* (Jin Sakai mythical tale, and recieve his legendary gear.
I think it would ve better if we got it for completing the story, I feel it would make more sence to have the armour on tsushima, so maby we just get it as a non canonicle armour with the same stats, and before anyone says the other arnour in ghost 1 aren't canon, they most definitely are.
This game has the potential to be even better than ghost 1, if their gonna do the same thing ubisoft did years ago with assassin's creed 2, having ezio be a new character, and we start to love him as a character, and in that game we start ti learn of altiars legend, and the great things he did after ac1, we could get that in this game through the mythic tails, npc side missions, and maby even discover the ghost clan, a clan jin formed after ghost 1, and hundreds of years after his death it's still around. And maby even meet jins dependent, who weirds the blade of clan sakai, wearing a much more refined looking ghost armour.
I will love to get DRIP OF TSUSHIMA in a mythical tale
@@dawudabdulali3827stfu , take better
I doubt it, besides isn't the new main character a female??? Why would she wear male clothes??
Someone mentioned how this series could go on to be like AC, where you go through various points in Japanese history as a Ghost. It would be pretty interesting.
Either way I'm really excited for this game, though I'm sad we won't be continuing Jin's journey. Also did anyone else get a western-vibe from the music in the trailer?
I think if this game is a huge success we can get a franchise like AC also but I hope the ghost travels further than just Japan but I feel like if they did something like way further west than China Ubisoft might try to sue bc it'd be like a direct ripoff of the ac games ghost would just be stories without the Animus in ac and that's what I wished ac was I hate the Animus bs
I saw that video, it's actually a solid idea
Yes I got a western vibe
I'd prefer the potential Ghost franchise to stick to Japan. Vast majority of games set in historical Japan tend to stick to Sengoku Jidai only. Ghost of Tsushima was a breath of fresh air.
“Ghost Of Peleliu” 💀
6:00 so in the flashback to the funeral, Yuriko says that Jin's parents will always be with him, his mother the birds, his father the wind. a clever way to incorporate the mechanics into the worlds logic by relying on the world's mysticism and spiritualism.
While I am slightly disappointed that we won't get to see a continuation of Jin's story, I am looking forward to what stories they could potentially tell with this new character. Personally, I hope the moniker of "Ghost" is a title that is "adopted" and not passed down like in Assassin's Creed(if you understand what I'm trying to say).
Looking forward to finding out more about Yōtei and your video about Tsushima.
Tbf, a lot of people have pointed out that they could always go back to Jin if they want to, so seeing more of Jin’s story in the second mongol invasion or something could be something that happens
yeee atsu should earn the title of the ghost instead of just being called the ghost like assassins creed where they just call someone the hidden one for no reason
Jin= ghost of Tsushima
Kratos = ghost of Sparta
😮
The timeline is set at the beginning of the Edo period, and we can see the start of the Japanese colonization of Hokkaido. We could see how that played out through Atsu, who is rumored to be part of the native Ainu people.
I'm genuinely hyped for this. GoT was an amazing game, and I've always wanted more of it. I know Sucker Punch will pour as much heart and soul into this game as they did with the last one when it comes to world building, esthetic and respect to the culture, so the protagonist being a woman doesn't bother me. I doubt they will try to make her some kind of female samurai, so she will likely be either an Onna-musha or just a wandering female warrior, which will be perfectly fine if so. All I know is that I'm hyped.
Have fun playing the game when it releases. I'll be playing it also.
In the year 1584, Ikeda Sen led a troop of 200 women armed with firearms at the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute, and in 1600 at the Battle of Sekigahara, a rare example of a teppō unit, or musketeer unit consisting only of women. Perhaps, Atsu is a veteran of Sekigahara.
@longago-igo I hate to break it to you, but that likely won't be the case. I looked more into the history of that time period, and from what I gather, Atsu will likely be an Ainu, aka the indigenous race of Hokkaido. It wouldn't make sense for the "Ghost" of Yōtei to be a Japanese woman, especially given the history of that time period. That would be like making the protagonist of GoT a Mongol who decides to turn against his own army to defend Tsushima.
@@tktxlegend4540 Well, that’s where ‘perhaps’ comes in. I’m not sure if she’ll be an Ainu (the wolf companion hints at that), but, at least, aligned with the Ainu. Her martial skill level, to me, indicates that she came from the South, perhaps Iga or Koga, home of the Shinobi.
im absolutely in love with the idea of the ghost as a legend, as long as they manage to make it feel different enough and not just the exact same thing then im very excited
I'm mad just because they built the last game like we were going to go take the fight to the Mongols as Jin I didn't think his story was over yet
Jin was defending his home he wasnt gonna invade Korea lol
I'm with you there, as happy as I am to see this game come out. I'm sad we don't get to continue Jin's Journey. I thought there was a lot of story left to tell.
I’m with you but I suppose they decided that you can’t win a boss fight with Kublai Khan and kill him unless you are doing alternate history…. And a fight with him would really be the only way to top the first game’s final boss with a Direct sequel. I suppose ditching the invasion storyline also gives them a lot more freedom, but this certainly does make Jin’s ending all the more sad. 🖤
@@tropiklethunder it makes zero sense for Jin to invade the Mongols he did not care about their rule of other lands he only wanted to defend his home.
@@richardchase2960 a fair concern, but theres not much else they could do with Jin a new character makes sense. Looks really good regardless i can't wait to play it.
I’m hoping that they’ll make some improvements to the animations. In the first game, it was clear that they cut corners in particular the scenes where Jin converses with NPC’s about side missions. Granted this could have been a time saver or due to the budget.
I also hope that the missions aren’t as repetitive as the first game. Looking back, most of the missions are all the same. Go here, kill these enemies, the end.
My hype levels are off the charts for this sequel 🙏🏿💜🙌🏿. Those double wielded katanas and a potential wolf companion, sign me up.
I also love that they are giving us a new protagonist coz it allows them to tell a new story.
Even tho some people are mad, I love when studios do this coz it means they don't have to worry about how the previous game ended or how to expand the existing story it basically gives them a clean slate which is awesome in my opinion coz I wanna see more and more new stories not the same stories being rinsed over and over.
So yeah very much looking forward to it and to see how they build on the awesomeness of the first game especially moving 300 years in time also allows them to give us some new toys technologically as well etc. Huge win win across the board.
to be fair, i'm surprised the release date is in 2025. I was fully expecting 2027. so many games announce themselves years and years before release
That is so true, I'm so happy sucker punch did this, and on top of that its near ac shadows 😂
Dude I remember I used to watch you when I was little totally forgot about you until this video came out you made me excited about ac again even if Ubisoft couldn’t.

Day one baby!!!!! This is gonna be so hype.
When i first played Ghost of Tsushima i couldn’t wait to play Jin but as the Ghost in a sequel. And since Mongols invade Tsushima a second time couple years later that’s a perfect sequel setup. But after Yotei and after seeing people ask “where’s Jin?. Why not Jin?” i realized if Sucker Punch stuck with Jin on the island of Tsushima for the second mongol invasion. It’s really just repeating the first game all over again, same enemies, same map and it’s only a few years apart so weapon variety is still the same. So they’d have to get more insane with the story for us to care about it like the first game. Plus if you played Ghost of Tsushima, Jin’s story gets wrapped up pretty well in the end of the base game and DLC. What i like about Yotei is it shows ‘Ghost’ as a franchise shouldn’t be locked to one person or place, it should be telling localized stories in parts all over Japan.
I bought GOT in 2020 shortly after I got a PS4 and never continued the story, I only did the opening part
Should I give it another go?
Yes. Finish the game and appreciate the end of the game's story.
If you want to yes, if not then no.
Just because many people enjoyed it, doesnt mean you will and dont force yourself to play.
I personally loved GOT, but that doesnt mean everybody has to
Absolutely, the game is beutiful, the combat is very fun and satisfying, ans later on in the game you just feel like an unstoppable being, amd the story is beutifulfly written tho basic still amazing, but the open world activities like side missions and fox dens are pretty tedious, and you HAVE to di the fox dens and hot springs in order to level up and get stronger
The hardest part for me was getting used to not having a lock on system like assassins creed, but after a few hours I started controlling the camera and the angle of the attacks naturally
Definitely he a lot better playing on the PS5 though if you got one
There can be now so many ghost games, that everyone will forget about AC series. Now we will be having ghost series.
A.C fell off so bad 😢
I believe there is a Ghost shinobi clan, established by Jin Sakai, and this Atsu could be a descendant of Jin or a member of his shinobi clan based in Tsushima. But this clan, unlike other shinobi clans at the period which are more like mercenaries and spies, The Ghost clan is believes in using their skills for protecting the people and overthrowing injustice, much like Batman.
Tge ghost is NOT a shinobi, he may have the chariterstics of one, most definitely, but he isnt a shinobi, he is the ghost.
@@dawudabdulali3827 Well, the Ghost is basically the predecessor of a shinobi.
@williamho1976 most likely not, as in real history shinobi were already a thing.
The Mongols invaded only a few years after the setting of the first (1281 i belive)so they should have saved this setting for the 3rd imo. Guess the logic behind the guiding wind is "kamikaze "- divine wind. This is were the word come from btw the storm that sank the mongol fleet and saved japan.
After the Khan was defeated the people in the temples, villages where talking about samoerai fighting against each other again, so I really thought it would be a sequel for Jin. I am looking forward to the new story and hope that the soundtrack will be as beautiful as it was in Ghost of Tsushima.
I think Jin's story was wrapped up. The Iki island DLC was an awesome surprise and a considerable expansion to the main game. Another title starring Jin would risk locking the series into his story only. I'm psyched to explore northern Japan and a new character a couple hundred years after him.
There most likely gonna tell his legend in this game through tails.
At risk of invoking them, it's nice to see someone talk about this without reactionary brain worms yelling regurgitated buzzwords...
The first one is the only game I've ever got a Platinum trophy on. For the second game all I want is a monkey mask and a yellow bird to follow
This game could be even better than ghost 1, if they are doing this like ubi did with assassin's creed 2, where they had a whole new character that wasnt altair, and in that game we learned of the legend of altair and the great things he did after assassin's creed 1, if there doing that then tbis game would be incredible, if not then...... it will probably be awful.
Man the people complaining about it being a female protagonist in the comment sections man is way too embarrassing. They really calling having a female protagonist as "woke" now. What have we become man

The right are behaving like the left.
I think a lot of them are people overreacting to the fact the VA for the titular character of Ghost of Yotei being extremely far left.
@@dandereninja4750 so they are basically just right winger incels who hate anyone who isn't bigoted like them and have realized they can gain a dedicated cash flow from inventing dumb controversies with tons of reactionary videos in a row no one would normally care about from the minute the first trailer hits?
I mean that was pretty obvious but it's still stupid. Society has enough anger already without having to invent or overblow controversies for people to be mad at to farm engagement numbers but it's how Twitter , yt, reddit and other places work and that's a problem when it's no longer about good content but lazy content that's easy to ride off of.
I can only be reminded of morons like synthetic man who basically cried about the fallout TV series being "woke" because there was a female main character from the first trailer and then had to shut up when it was universally praised because people like that can can only run with actually badly executed content which can happen regardless of who the actors or actresses are.
Same thing happened with the last of us TV show, Mario movie, prey,, the boys season 4 and even the dead space remake where synthetic man in particular couldn't shut up about there being one bathroom in the game that was for everyone to share instead of divided by gender and how it was a secret conspiracy to enforce gender neutrality.
I honestly don't care what the political affiliation of the actress or actor is as long as they are not an asshole to anyone (blocking people harrasing you on twitter for being apart of the game and existing with a political affiliation they disagree with doesn't count) as i am not constantly checking social media for everyone's in a video games political affiliation. but, it is quite hypocritical when these are basically all the same people who cry about how cancel culture is so bad and how people should let devs and industry professionals make games how they want, and how no one can say anything anymore ( when it comes to people they like) like that only applies to their own crap views. Do I agree with Reuben langon for example for believing every crazy conspiracy he reads online? No. Do I think he should have stopped acting over it? No. Do I blame Capcom for not wanting him associated with their brand? Of course not.
I'm hoping Lethal mode stays, it was the only way to play Ghost of Tsushima for me.
Same, but those boss fights were insufferable, hut very satisfying
i am actually happy that sucker punch chose this route
i dont enjoy this "super realistic" kind of games that much, but ghost of tsushima is an exception, its one of my favorite games of all time (maybe even in top 5 in some days), and i believe if they did a traditional sequel to it, it would be no where near as good as the first game, the first game was perfect for me so even if they make the best game ever it would still be more of the same, specially about its story, the story of it was so good that continuing it wouldnt be anything special.
but now YEARS after the first game that Jin Sakai is dead and he has become a legend, now there is a chance of doing something as good, they had done everything they could with Jin and now they have a new character to tell a great story, now even if the sequel is more of them same or somehow they make a bad game, the legacy of the first game is safe becasue its not actually "ghost of tsushima 2" , and if the sequel is awesome, then i wont have the subjective problems that i would have with and therefore i could love the game in a different way rather than being more of the same of a game that i love
Y'all should stop calling it a sequel. It's not a sequel. It's a new entry in the series but not a sequel
You don't know if it's a sequal or not,but it most likely is a sequal.
Define sequel
It didn’t seem like Jin’s story was over tbh. I’m gonna probably skip this one or wait for a sale.
After he said his shirt changed cause he procrastinates... I was expecting him to have a different shirt on every time he was on screen 😂

It is Woke.
Thank you for actually talking about the game instead of whining about Erika Ishii's political beliefs, I'm so tired of people making that the main topic of discussion for this game currently when she's literally just the voice actress

The best way to actually close off Jin is have us play him in the epilogue in the beginning of the game close the story off then transition 300 years later as Atsu.

I played GOT before I played RDR2. It was the best gaming experience I’d ever had at that point and sits solidly in my no2 spot only bested by rdr2 but I wish the two games melded a little together. If AI ever gets to the point of choose your own game creator I will combine the two and have the greatest game imaginable. Arthur Morgan and Jin Sakai joining forces to defeat the rdr2 gangs teamed up with the mongols.
0:18 can say Gotei but not Tsushima.
Hopefully won’t have to wait 4 years for it to come to PC, but at least by then I’ll know if it’s worth playing.
I have to agree overall about how the sequel is being handled. While I originally assumed it would continue Jin's story, it would take a really REALLY good writer to continue from where Ghost of Tsushima left off. All the themes of the original game? They're done and over with. The side quests are pretty self-contained, and the quest Jin embarks on resolves all his thematic stories. The theme of Jin's perspective on Honor is solidified by the end of Act II. Jin's relationship with his uncle, no matter the choice you make, is solidified by the end. And Jin's ways of dealing with the Mongol Invasion are basically done and over with.
Jin's story is done, and it would take a better storyteller than the writers of the original to really hammer it home for a sequel with Jin (not saying the writers couldn't do it, but it wouldn't be as easy as starting anew). A new character with new themes and stories will overall likely create a better story, and it doesn't hold down the franchise from being a one-trick pony with one character either.
Ghost of Yotei is definitely for the best, I believe, even if I would've loved a sequel starring Jin Sakai again.
Disagree completely. There was a clear implication that the fight against the Monogols wasn’t over. I would have been much more interested in a sequel further developing Jin’s character. Glad you are looking forward to it but I don’t think this new game will be for me.

i also didnt hear anything till like 7 pm where i was ,wasn't even looking at news related to the ghost series and stumbled on it.
I have some concerns. Part of what made Ghost of Tsushima so amazing was the moral dilemma that was presented early from the beginning of game. “Being a honorable samurai and dying by their code or do what ever you need to do to save your people. Having a villain whose studied your peoples language, traditions, and beliefs and constantly exploiting any weaknesses he finds was what made the first game unique. To me this new game feels like an action packed camping trip. Another thing that made first game unique was the cultural clash between the mongols and Japanese that is very unique when it comes to stories set in Japanese history usually it’s infighting amongst themselves or European influence/attempted colonization. Rarely do we see Japanese history and its interaction with other Asian civilizations in media. But hey 🤷♂️ I’ll give it a try.
Bro, I think you are missing a little here. I think this second game will be EVEN MORE interesting in the matter of "clash of asian civilizations" most because the historical moment and the location match perfectly with the colonization of Hokkaido and the Ainu people struggling to survive.

I like your rational takes here, Fizhy. I hope you enjoy the game when you play it and looking for to your Ghost Of Tsushima video.
I'm definitely looking forward to playing Ghost of Yōtei, since it takes place in Hokkaido back when it was known as Ezo, the region my dad's family originates from there and where I spent a lot of time as a kid.
Ghost of Tsushima takes place in 1274 and Atsu’s journey takes place in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima in Ghost of Yōtei. My guess they're a descendant of Jin Saka from the first game. I'd guess it be something like Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2 where one is John's story and 2 Arthur's story. A different game with a different protagonist and different stories to tell.
With how you described Jin's role in this game, they really should have called it "Legend of Tsushima".
No because its a different story and a different character so the name they gave it sounds good. Plus it follows the naming and sounds catchy.

This is bullshit. The game was clearly setting up Jin to either go to mainland Japan and trying to defend it while also getting hunted down by the Shogun. Or go to Mongolia and unleash hell in the empire.

Bro, it’s just a female protagonist tf you mean DEI??? Fyi female samurai’s/ warriors did exist in feudal japan. They were called Onna-Bugechi. And from the looks of it she looks like a ronin which means that she is a samurai but without a master. 🤦🏽♂️ I really can’t with these people.
@@xenoplayz4524 you should’ve seen lara croft in the 90’s she was basically a full on celebrity. Everyone loved her. But now we see a female protagonist and people call it woke🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
@@Ivangmer07 These people just follow the crowds like sheep, to busy calling everything woke or dei instead of forming a constructive thought for themselves
@@xenoplayz4524 @Ivangmer07 I have 0 faith that a game dev can have a female lead and not push the girlboss narrative. There are enough good games out there that I can afford to assume it sucks until proven otherwise.
Now that Im thinking about it, there is a trend of game 1 being super popular standout success and then 2 is pure political propaganda.
I'm not going to lie, I'm really disappointed. I was sooo looking forward to seeing Jin vs The Shogun for years and they just completely abandoned it
I mean, they may not as we could be getting mythic tails and a lotta lore about what jin did, they can do it in a very relistic way.
@dawudabdulali3827 no thanks. I would much rather play that than read about it via scrolls
@@TheChandy98 not even read through scrolls, but through mythic tails, like from the first game.
@@dawudabdulali3827 yeah, no
@TheChandy98 why ? That would be more interesting that way. Really show what the ghost legend that way
Trantow Island
No one should hold their breath on ghosts of yotei. Hyper-woke voice actor Erika iishi is going to play as the main character. It's another title that's going to sink into the dei abyss sadly from what's been going on with so many other titles.
So just because the actor is iffy it means the game is gonna be bad ? What kinda logic is that ? Your acting like she would have control over the story when that's simply not true 😂
@@dawudabdulali3827 iffy has a lot to do with it and why it should not be supported. Posting arrogantly race bashing people and other psychotic rants isn't someone that should be hired by anyone unless you are just wanting to fail. Didn't what happen with ubisoft, Disney and bud light teach you anything? A majority of people doesn't support the insane, and neither should gamers.
@@dawudabdulali3827 I'm a fair person so tell you what, I'll stop bashing the idiocy of Sony if they change the voice actor to someone who's more mentally stable like Michelle yeoh or someone else. Go woke go broke.
@dantopper123 ok, that dosent immediately mean this game is gonna fail bud 😂
@dantopper123 "go woke go broke" you know I just love that statement as you people are whinging about the female main character when that isn't even the right use of the word woke 😂
The actor they used for the main character is a little weird tbh. She’s very political and has many posts about her views which I feel like would hurt sucker punch. I guess we’ll see.
I understand u, but she can’t really influence the game, there is a director for that, she has no power and is an employee, I can understand u saying them hiring her can tell something but before this she also worked in other projects💁🏾♂️
@@japhethsinon6302 Exactly.
@@japhethsinon6302 it’s more about perception than anything else that’s what I’m saying. Just isn’t a good look for the game.
@@danielsabatino6324 this unfortunately true and here is where we are rn😅
@@danielsabatino6324 I don't think general audience could gaf dude. The perception is only on ppl who're that online. Most ppl will be intrigued cuz it's a sequel to a popular game.
I'm just sick and tired of Mary Sue- I mean Strong Female Protagonist™️
We have gotten so many in recent years, I am pavlovially trained to assume that's what a female protagonist will be until I see proof of the contrary.
Seems like a skill issue to me man, Aloy from Horizon comes to mind as a refutation of that
@@Ayem427 You mean Horizon Forbidden Jaw?
The game's not even out yet and you're calling her a Mary Sue 😂Get a grip.
@@peddlefiend8062 So when the game comes out and I'm proven right, what award will you give me for my powers of prophecy?
@@bokrugthewaterserpent3012 Yeah, but even if it comes out and she isn't, you won't play it. You'll just listen to what TheQuartering says about it and base your opinions on that, without actually playing the game 🤡
Hope it's not woke crap.
Having a female protagonist isn't woke btw.
@@dawudabdulali3827 Smells fishy to me..😂
@@Numagus9172 how ? Because previous things ?
@@Numagus9172 that's not even the correct use of the word woke.
I have no interest for this game or the protagonist. Loved Jin, hate this female.
You dont even know anything about them yet your already saying that 😂
You never played the first game it’s obvious.
