It’s about time I came across this review. With the F 900 GSA just launched, this review serves as a timely anecdote and might help me with my buying decision. Great stuff! I’m looking forward to more motorcycle conversations like this.
Awesome content @Open Adventures! Finding these interviews very relatable, especially this one from an ADV buying perspective. Firstly I respect Pratvii's appreciation for the 850GSA - to each their own. However, for me the 850GSA just didn't 'connect'. This was in 2023 while I too was in a one sided love affair with Africa Twin and was waiting in line for the launch which never happened and i cancelled the booking. The 850, to me felt too non-compact and spread out once seated on the bike. The engine felt somewhat crude and rough. Riding it felt top heavy and it made sure I don't even look at the 1250GSA, forget test riding it. Looks, although are subjective, didn't interest me either. But the price point was quite good for sure. DSP guys managed the entire process quite professionally. They offered me a longish >100Km test ride too to get me interested. And yes, DSP guys were the nicest people compared to Honda and Triumph dealers hands down.
Thanks for the wonderful comment Jijo. Perfectly understandable that the 850 GSA didn't 'connect' for you. And it wont for some. It didn't connect for Vivek as well for very similar reasons to yours.
Pritavi surely understand the people wanting to take picture with bike and take a look at it. I never seen such person who realize the feeling of people could not afford these bikes.
Thank you, the smiles still gives me memories of how as kids we wanted to take pics with big bikes and cars. the spark it brings to every person who sees it.
It seems the owner is a little uncomfortable in accepting the laws of physics or is simply unaware. A simple question, benchmark the GSA to Xpulse. The answer, 7.5 v 9.5! That's just wow. I mean sure we all love our bikes, but come on now. A TVS XL with 250kgs? Theory of relativity gets a new meaning. Just sit and do off road on this special bike guys! Crazy statements throughout Best part though, interviewer caught all those and actually pointed them out haha
I dont get the point of big bikes in india. I mean dont get me wrong, feels amazing to be able to buy such bikes and the attention you get is great but practically these bikes are pretty useless anywhere apart from highways. Too big, too heavy. I guess its more the joy of owning such a bike thannactually riding it. Just my 2 cents. Id always choose a lighter weight bike. Hoping for Yamaha to release the Tenere or Triumph to maybe manufacture the Tiger 600. I was eyeing the Aprilia Tuareg but thsy screwed themselves with the pricing by making it a cbu.
You are right on many counts. Agree with all of your points. But there is 1 very strong use case for the big heavy bikes. Highway touring comfort/ease/performance is exceptional (also for 2 up touring). Also agree about the Tuareg.
@@OpenAdventures i mean 60k for his 40k odo service. Surely bmw has engine reliability, but real thing on spending for service starts after 30 k. Parts cost high and labour charges too. Although people understands english. But hindi ka maza hi alag he.
@@vanditm6021 Bhai Deep bhai ka review bhi dekha tha, gaadi karidne se pehle. Maintenance cost for any vehicle is there, depending on usage. These should be done else it leads to higher expense. The spares are expensive, you buy it only when you can do the spend.
I know a guy who got his 3rd service bill(20k KM) of whopping 27k for his 310GS considering that i don't think the 850 service costs around 10k not even close
So with BMW the labor cost is standard across all bikes, the reason why it's on the higher side. The 27k would have been because he may have needed certain parts to be changed. My average service cost used to be 12k (which is still on the higher side for a 310cc bike) (An ex 310gs owner, who clocked 30,000kms on it)
in surat my vstrome cost me 1160000 + accessories same as gsa has (27600+34000+21000) lower engine guard, side rack and, top rack all are hepco and bekar. The price difference is 270000 between these two bikes..... All the other accessories and service are much costlier than vstrome.... cruise control and heated grips how useful in Indian condition don't know....
@@pratnomadzero maintanence chain means you don't need to lube after wash bike for few hundred kms, but you have to keep the chains super clean. (Not possible in India) chains will increase slack when dirt hits the seals. Best way to avoid that is Putoline dry Tech or Tech chain lube l. Once in 1k is enough
@@pratnomadhey so one of my friend told me denali are equally good, there are new lights coming from lonerider kindly check them out, they seem impressive
Seemed like a Wannabe owner .. jumping straight from 200cc to 850cc is just plain bad.. one won't be able to extract maximum from such a leap.. one has to climb CC and not just jump onto it.. and if the falling of the bike skips the heartbeat ..you potentially have an incorrect bike..
Thanks for your comment Swayam. However, we respectfully disagree. What we know is that biking isn't a one size fits all experience. What's really 'plain bad' is putting the process of upgrading into a 'labelled' box of what everyone should do. Why can't we be more tolerant to someone else's viewpoint instead of resorting to name calling?
@@OpenAdventures buddy you took it in all wrong directions...my comments were purely based on approach towards this video.... bang on, I couldn't let go of the attention the bike and brand would get me. Forget the touring capability, munching miles when covering distances like 700+kms in a single day in comfort.

Dude just wasn't ready to admit that xpulse is better offroad than 850 GSA😅.
😃
:P Xpulse is very capable da. Both are completely different categories and hold their own.
Damn Pratvii! This is so cool! Looking forward to more such videos

My first pick was the AT, I waited for close to a year then rode the GSA and fell in love. Both the bikes are very different and equally capable.
Very interesting review and really answers a lot of questions on my mind about owning a GSA. Great job Prithvi and Vivek!
Thanks for watching Nishanth
Thank you.
Lot of "right" in his conversation which makes us to question if something is really "wrong" with the bike 😂
there are pros and cons to all vehicles. End of the day you buy what you are comfortable with.
Very informative Pratvi sir, I am ready to buy a bike now and ride even on Bangalore roads 😁😁😁
You should start riding soon.
Great video 👍 please also make a video on Himalayan 450

Sure thanks for the info. I think heated grips are useful for those who stay in northern parts of India.
Engine heat??
Its there. But not too bad
