Great to see the 924 running again. Good luck with the cold start issue I know it can be a puzzle trying to sort. WUR could also be a fun stop if you have replaced everything else, which looks to be the case. Car looks great too. Nice work!
I’ve got very similar problems, so am following avidly! I took out my tank pump yesterday and ultrasonically cleaned it and tested it- the bottom of the tank was full of something the size and consistency of coffee grounds which I worked out, when I got a larger piece out, was a black open cell foam sock that used to wrap the metal mesh filter element, that had totally degraded. Got it all out, refitted the pump connected everything up, nice new fresh fuel... and it still wouldn’t start lol. Will have a look at the high pressure pump next, to be sure, but hoping it’s just a case of priming and getting the air out of the system. Good luck!
Hey Paul, its sounds like you had an eventful workout with the fuel tank and pump with a good fix at the end. Now that you know the fuel pump and tank are good to go, I would recommend my next video that has just gone live as the fix that might help you get the car up and running. Let me know how you get on and thanks for the support :)
@@Witty924 Great news that yours is sorted - I did my WUR a couple of weeks back, so I knew that wasn’t my issue, but last night I pulled off the metering head and found the piston was stuck at the top of its travel. I freed it all off, ultrasonically cleaned the assembly, put it all back together and success - now mine’s a runner again too!
@@Witty924 Hi Witty, still loads to do lol! Just soldering a new SAK 215 I/C into the tachometer board, then it’s driver’s electric window motor, coolant temp sensor, petrol tank, exhaust system, spark plugs, wiper blades, belts, steering column lower shaft, electric aerial and then the MOT... should all be good to go for next week then ;-)
Nice 924 owned one myself and loved it! Now have a 944 s2 in pieces which is turning into a long term project. The 2.0 model of 924 is a brilliant all round daily driver classic though and I will own one again hopefully. Lovely car and great videos.
Hey Mark thank you for the comment and it has been an adventure that's for sure. Almost there, just a few niggles to sort to get it back on the road all being well. 944 S2 are great motors too, will you be doing any videos of your project build, be great to see?
Good to see it running, did you check the warm up regulator for continuity/resistance?, that’s another area that causes grief on cold starts. Had mine swapped out on my 77 924. As it was always a pig to start hot or cold.....
I think it's going to be my final stop, I kept ignoring it but it sucks me back in haha. I actually have a spare which I can test. would you happen to know the resistance numbers you get when testing, might have to do some research on this one? Thanks for the pointer!
Witty 924 can’t recall off top of my head, I know the numbers and spec’s are listed in the Haynes manual, with quite detailed description of the WUR unit. Don’t know if they’re still available as ‘new’ units, but I was 1 of the 3 main things that caused non start at hot/cold scenarios. 2 is the cold start valve, and 3, the one way valve at the end of the fuel pump. Hope this helps.
@@GBOAF216 many thanks and appreciated :) The fuel pump is done so that's a tick, I will test the WUR unit, next job, I do have a spare one but also need to test that one to see if its in good order. I have tried 3 cold start valves and none changed this issue with a cold start, so unless I'm really unlucky with them, it could just be the WUR is my final step to getting a cold start working each and every time. I will keep on plugging through and share my progress. thanks again for the suggestions :)
It's difficult to tell from the video, but it sounds like your idle is set too low. You could try to adjust it to ~900 RPM. If I'm not mistaken, you should have a micro switch in the air metering unit that triggers the fuel pump when the air flap moves up. Perhaps that needs adjusting? It could explain why you have to lift the air metering plate to get it to catch. If the car runs well both hot and cold (once you get it running) it's probably not the WUR.
Hi Flexnes, so when it first starts its a low idle agree, but once warm it sits perfectly at 900 RPM. So would that suggest the WUR as you say? if so then the next big job has been prescribed for me :)
@@Witty924 In that case it might be the WUR. Start by opening it and giving everything a thorough cleaning. Not difficult but be careful not to damage any delicate parts!

@@pauldillingham7652 that's awesome to hear Paul. Nice feeling when these 924s are runners 👍. Have you got any other jobs left to do?

I really admire those who put themselves foreword and create excellent content. It’s not for me thought! I may do a foot to floor type bog though.

Hi
How can i change fuel distributor for 924 , 1984 , 2000cc?
And if i cant find it , the VW part is useful ?
Depends what car you have Moath, the fuel set up on a 924 has lots of parts from the fuel tank to engine so could be a tough retrofit.
