I love the egg planes, only the prop types, mind. Years ago I had a Fokker Fünfdecker, with five sets of wings and instructions in a German accent: "Don't gloop der glue! Gloppy glue looks schloppy." Wish I could remember the make. As a mojo buster I use the multi-coloured Matchbox kits, I bought a bunch of the ones I'd built before in my youth and now I build them 'bare plastic' (not really, because there's varnish and decals and colour-matching canopy frames). Gets me going again every time.
This Red Baron kit is perfect for my 7 year old grandson! I couldn’t figure out what to get him and now that problem is solved. He’s a 3 hour flight away so I don’t get to see him very often. Last time I talked to him he asked, “Grandpa, can we build another model?” I’ve recruited another modeler! Thanks!
I love them, I've built a few. My club does a charity display and kids are drawn to them. Getting children interested and involved in plastic models is what's important, getting them away from the digital mass consumption social media marketing content. Tiger model also do these and the F4U Corsair is brilliant with folding wings and both waterslide decals and rub on stickers, their only problem is availablity of supply(Tiger Model). Meng also do brilliant toon tanks in 1/35 scale to go alongside the real tank models in scale. They aren't for the beginner though being a straight up detailed kit just the changed shape. Great review.
The Meng range is very good, they cover most things. And I do need to get hold of a Tiger Hobbies kit, I've been looking at them just haven't picked one up yet
I've built a couple egg planes. Also several of the Meng Toon-Tanks. In fact we used the Meng Toon-Takes a couple years for our club's annual contest's Make-N-Take. The were good for the older child (ages 9 to 14)...I always work the Make-N-Take table and one year let a 6 year old try one...he got it done...but it did take about 2 1/2 hours. I think Meng also has a WW2 Aircraft Carrier in their Toon line. I modeled the famous scene from Kelly's Heroes where Odd Ball's Sherman come ups behind the German Tiger in the ally. Used Meng Toon Tanks...it was fun.
I have this and the sop with camel they do to accompany it. I also have the tiger model spitfire and 109s and am looking forward to building them myself. Remember that modelling is meant to be fun!
HI Jenn, intreasting but fun selection of kits and builds. That Triplane would look good if you could do it with half solid, half transparent fuselage to show off the detail.
I have the Suyata DR.1 and Camel. I had to order them from BNA Group in Australia. They’re still waiting for me to have a go at. It was toon aircraft that got me back into modelling after many years away due to work travel and living in a tiny flat. Another advantage of them is the size. Some of them were the Hasagawa egg-plane series, but also Spitfires, Me-109s, and F4U Corsair from Tiger Model. I added aftermarket decals. I can’t share photos here but have them in FB.
Nice one Jen. Egg kits aren't to my taste but I do like the Fokker DR 1 Triplane - it reminds me of the old Aurora monster kits that glowed in the dark! When I want a break and do something possibly less authentic - I break out a car or truck kit as you can make them your own. Cheaper than customising a real car - but just as artistic methinks...
Hi Jen, hope you're doing ok. 😁 I've never built a toon/egg kit but I do appreciate they are fun with less pressure to be accurate, and a mojo booster too. I've got to say though that both of those kits look fantastic! The DR1 looks absolutely amazing! Lovely detail and easy to assemble. Nice to see something different. What are you planning for the channel Jen or are you having a break until you're back to fighting fitness? Take care please and look forward to hearing from you soon. 😊 👍👊
I am going to do a quick Chatterbox in the next few days to address that B, but I think that new videos will be mostly restricted to reviews for a few months while I catch up with 'off air' projects - though I'm not fully mobile or back to the bench yet.
@@JenesisDesignsandModelcraft thanks Jen. I'm sure you have plenty to review from recent memory, the stash has one or two to look at! Appreciate whatever you do, but you come first, so take care and look after yourself. Best wishes Bobby
I use Meng toon tanks and Warhammer tanks to stretch out my skills before I try them on a model I want to be just right. I dont worry about constuction at all, but I use them heavily to expand my painting and weathering skills. Quite by accident, I also ended up painting one of my FAVORITE paint jobs ever... on a Warhammer tank kit. I tried my hand at painting MULTICAM, and I thought it came out AWESOME! (wish I could post a picture)
Kits of this type are modelling Marmite. I, personally, have always been mystified that they exist at all and consider them a waste of polystyrene. I am obviously in the minority as they seems quite popular so if they are your thing, enjoy!
personally not keen on eggplanes , I find them a bit formulaic .. Compact / kids / cartoon / keeps the recognisable shape of the plane but Chibi . I now have 8 chibi fighter jets . GWH / MENG / FREEDOM MODELS and TIGERMODEL are the way to go . Supply is becoming a problem , where you could get them post free for £8-10 they are now over £20 . detail is as good as a "proper " kit , and as for fit..........don't press them too hard as you won't be able to get the pieces undone again !! Love the Red Baron , seem to remember Revell doing something similar in the 70's , anyone ??
Brilliant video, absolutely brilliant.
It’s certainly fun stuff to build. I have a series of these different deformed toon and egg kits. Great fun to crank up the building mojo 💥👍💥

I really enjoyed this clip. I think we need more “lighten up” presentations.

Egg planes amused me for 5 minutes but they all leave me cold now. However, it's great they exist and it's great that people enjoy them.
As someone whose mojo is becalmed ... i might just try some of these ... many thanks for showing the fun side of modelling

I love them ...one can go wild ... would like to build one .. must see where I can get then in south Africa 🇿🇦 😊

I thought that while I was editing the video, perfectly possible to do I'm sure

I've seen the Tiger model kits, just haven't got around to picking any up yet! I like the ones with the animal pilots lol

I think almost anything is cheaper than customising a real car! (or bike)

Looks Utterly bonkers, in a good way!
I like the egg plane models and world war toons series by meng for slump busters

I quite fancy that DR1, are there any other aircraft in their range?
They have a Camel and a Spad, from what I’ve seen.
Try the Fokker Funfdecker that's fun
Is this a Halloween prank for Alex, Mann's Model Moments?😂 He hates these😂😂.
Nope!

I feel the same about the majority of 'what if' modelling I see. I do realise they aren't for everyone

where is the challenge in building that?
That's kinda the point, sometimes a challenge isn't what's wanted ..

Yea not interested. 🎉
