  • Our guard Llama, Cool Whip, is keeping a watchful eye on a raccoon as he gets a little too close to his herd of goats. Notice how the goats stick around Cool Whip for protection. Fortunately the raccoon ran off once Cool Whip got closer.

    I've gone backpacking in the Sierra with llamas. They're tough animals. No bears ever came around llamas would fight with them.

      I guess because how big they look and honestly it’s tall and kinda has a mean stare. I bet the animals are just a bit perplexed why there’s a buff sheep looking thing

    People around here put llamas in with their sheep and goats, and they put donkeys in with their cattle. Llamas and donkeys both hate canines and will chase after coyotes.

  • @rectaldestructionisnotlove6596
    @rectaldestructionisnotlove6596 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How does it protect the flock, by getting eaten itself. Just when you think libre earles can't go down the rabbit hole any further, they always go deeper. Let us prey to guard the flock.

  • @aquaportucalense1129
    @aquaportucalense1129 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Lamas are known to ""spit"" with their noses . So why are they guarding against wolves ? Because they spit on them and wolves don't like it ? I would run too !!

    • @LittleMissV
      @LittleMissV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Aqua Portucalense it’s because of their hooves actually. They’re hundreds of pounds so I’d imagine that one sound kick from one of those would either 1) kill a wolf or 2) seriously injure them. Either way, the damage would be enough to scare them away to find easier prey.

    I read about sheep herders using llamas to guard their flocks. A rough quote from the article ( in Smithsonian magazine, I think) "They apparently regard the sheep as their less-intelligent cousins and feel responsible for them."
    One sheep herder reported watching a llama chase down a coyote and stomp it to death.
    Bonus aspect of the relationship. Sheep are grazers and llamas are browsers. There is no competition for food.
