Shida's artwork is more appealing and I think his timing is smoother than Ohara. Every time I see Ohara on the screen it reminds me of Uchiyama but just more dynamic and polished.
Ohara crossed the line in 17/Piccolo fight for me. I hate quoting TFS but those gut punches are looney tunes. It's so over the top even for DBZ it takes me right out of the scene.
Shida's drawings had more impact in his old work on Z and dragonball. His timing was so different. In Super his work is on 1s and this sometimes makes it feel floaty and weightless.
8:47 I'm noticing a pattern where Shida would draw the overall character shape in a semi circle with their attacking arm being closer to the screen. Very similar to the cut her did in the Goku Black arc where Goku Black was spamming ki blasts at Goku and Trunks.
I don’t know how to explain but. Shida’s work feels like a circle, and Ohara’s feels like a triangle. They are different shapes and offer different things. I love the flow and smoothness of Shida’s work, at the same time I also love how punchy and impactful Ohara’s work feels.
1:00 😂😂, I noticed O'Hara for being in the OG series I think Shida had better animation but O'Hara has getter Impact if thag makes sense... another Fantastic video 🔥🔥
Ohara is pretty great, I like Shida's older work more as his newer work stands out too much for me from the motion to some of the way he does his art/lines. I really love Ohara's Majin Vegeta art, the hair motion and some of his Goku stuff, the perspectives and facial expressions feel very solid and nicely detailed. Shida's old work is amazing
Can you like a breakdown or analysis of the animators and their styles who work at each specific studio on Dragon Ball/Z like those at Studio Cockpit, Studio Seigasha, or Studio Last House? Like those studios each have a collective animation style as a whole or do each animator working there have a style of their own?
@@specialnewb9821 yes its beautiful, and the blonde hair, ya I love every seen, especially the ssj goku one on namek, his hair flowed so beautifully, kakarot is a very beautiful game

Watching Studio Last House episodes was confusing to me b/c the three animators from that team drew similar character models. I knew there were some frames that look better than others, but I thought they were drawn by the same animator. Now my eyes can spot the differences easier now. To break it down simply to strictly art work style. Ohara is two steps above Uchiyama and Shida is two steps above Ohara. Shida is tier 3, Ohara is tier 2 and Uchiyama is tier 1. When it comes to animation I'll take Shida even though Ohara is a good animator as well. Uchiyama is a decent animator too, but his art work lacks key details and is below average looking too often.

Did Ohara did the Key animation of Jiren vs SSB Goku when they were clashing fist through out the tournament vanishing and then they reach the sky did a bit of combat and then Jiren punched Goku in the Gut in episode 109?
In my personal opinion, I think Ohara has a lot of potential. if he worked on Dragon Super and on One Piece, he would have most likely improved as an animator and artist.
Shida definitely stood out the best of the two, Ohara never really delivered and you could tell when an episode would get really good based on the style of artwork. Majin Vegeta Vs Goku for instance, one sequence was stellar animation while the rest looked subpar. Most of the was Oharas work.
O'Hara is just the opposite of Uchiyama. More polished artwork. Shidas work is smoother and always has been and It's always on model and so cool to watch timing is perfect. I'd say Shida has better artwork but their animation in the Namek saga basically on an even level. But afterwards Shida was better. Though I still love Ohara
It was a little disappointing, part of me was still holding out that it would be a 2d film lol. However the model for Goku itself looked quite nice so that's a positive. Overall I'm still interested in the film but I'm certainly not as excited with this new approach.

Every time I see his work, I always get really irritated and wished that corrections were made so those episodes looked better.
i really don't like naotoshi shida's animation. there's a lot of "spectacle" behind his animation but it doesn't usually carry any weight and things that should feel really huge, don't.
I'm a little tired of all the Shida praise. Yes, the man is amazing, his artwork is very polished and the movement is fast and smooth... but nowadays Shida is pretty much a living meme, always recycling the same tricks (snaking beams, shaking heads, stacks of i frames) over and over again, across multiple shows. That's not bad per se, but it generates a trend where fans overlook other skilled animators because 'they are not Shida', as they are not as recognizable. It's infuriating to see people watch amazing scenes from the past, like Shimanuki's beam stuggle, and say 'Shida would have done it better.' P.s. bad english, already know that.
