8:13 even though I watched the entirety of dbz, I do not remember ever seeing this scene. all this great animation, but that shows pacing makes it harder to appreciate it.
Been waiting on this one for a while. Him and Masunaga are my favourite Z animators. Great look into a legend who helped take so many scenes to another level!
Doing great is an understatement. This is one of my favorite TH-cam channels. I am always excited to see new content. The critical nature of your content and well researched information is outstanding. On first watch of the show I often wondered about the various artist’s involvement but I never expected anyone to hit the nail on the head with content as rich as yours. Five stars mate.
when you went over the base goku vs freeza fight i got the feeling it reminded me of some classic comedy animes with the dynamic key posing and not alot of easing and inbetween frames, but i couldnt put my finger on why. that anime at 2:00 is exactly the kind i was thinking about. thanks for another mystery solved!
Hisada, Shimanuki, and Keisuke Masunaga are my three favorite animators. They have each had their influence on my art and style. Masaaki Sato is also great!
Come for the DBZ stuff, stay for the animation history. Even though I'll doubt it'll be as popular, but I'd love to see you tackle an animator who worked on a series that wasn't Dragon Ball. Maybe something like Lupin III since that series in particular featured a lot of industry giants and soon-to-be industry giants.
@@forgottenrelics1197 I think if you gave it another chance it could do well. I think it just depends on the shows you start also doing. You would have to do something that most people would be familiar with like Naruto or maybe one piece
@@TedMcS Nah man I've already done a video on both those series as well as several others (although not in regards to animation). With YT it doesn't matter how popular a show is, if it's outside of the series you typically post, in most cases it will do poorly.
@Ash Williams If I'm honest I would prefer to talk about Naruto rather than either of those shows haha. If I ever was to go with a 90s anime tho I would probably discuss either Hunter x Hunter or Rurouni Kenshin :)
Hey Relics just wanted to say that I really love watching your videos , really enjoyable being an animator and artist myself. Whenever I animate a limited scene I try to do it like Hisada . Man Is Blazing fire
Oh man this was great. Your channel keeps growing as a place to traverse animators. Are you an aspiring animator yourself? Because i keep hearing you mention concepts like force.
Thanks man and yeah I've been contemplating it for a while but especially lately after diving back into Imaishi's, Kanada, and Hisada's work. Their work pumps me up so much but I know the time it takes to animate which is why I'm a little hesitant haha.
I'm not sure which video I subscribed in, but the way you talk and explain the art style of DBZ and the animators work is awesome man. Very informative and enjoyable at the same time. Leaving a comment for the algorithm 🙌🏾
I love your channel and I would like to see a video explaining why did animators changed every other episode. What was the reason behind that and how the difference could be jarring.
Because it would be impossible to animate the whole series with a single small team of animators. They need teams to divvy up the workload. The art style change is merely because every artist draws different, and it would be impossible for a chief animation supervisor or character designer to keep things 100% consistent on every single episode.
To add what Alex said a lot of episodes were outsourced to different studios, naturally, each studio has its own unique approach giving a variety of styles. So flicking from a Studio Junio ep to a Studio Live one could be jarring. I've also just started on a new video today on why the quality of episodes in both style and animation would vary so much, perhaps that will answer your question in more depth :)
this guys was a really legend, the Goku vs freezer ep, the fusion ep, and the best filler of all the times (Goku and Piccolo learning to drive) were in his hand.
2:32, ahhh Kanada. Such a legend. He was what brought on Hirotoshi Sano, Masahito Yamashita, Nobuyoshi Habara and Masami Obari as legends in the mecha genre. 5:10, damn..that Namek can run! 9:34,good music~
Hisada and Maeda (you misspelled "Minoru" btw 😭) have always been my favorite animators in Dragon Ball. Their art style and expressive animation are absolutely gorgeous!
I really would like to see if there are any similarities to nakatsuru and tamakashi! If you could compare the old with the new! Especially on Goku’s animation! I really have got a lot of love for your work right now.
Dragon Ball and Kanada school = fkin best. Hisada was a breath of fresh air since his first ep a KA and he kept getting better through time during DBZ. BTW during Super I still hoped to see him again on the franchise, even hoping to see his amazing movements on the screen again....sad Buuuut Still have hope, who knows, maybe in Heroes ? 😂
Do a video about Minoru Meada and why is he a legend. Also when you said his artwork was in decline later in the series, was he as bad as someone like Masayuki Uchiyama or Yukio Ebosawa or did you mean that his artstyle his still good but felt out of place with evolving artstyle? Like show us examples or comparisons.
He certainly wasn't at their level, but yes his style felt out of place and dated, especially compared to those in his own studio like Nakatsuru and Sato. And I have shown examples of that such as in "Why did Dragon Balls art style change so much" video and many others
I know this isn’t anything about the video itself but I’d like if you went back to making drawing videos. I really like watching your process to how you draw things
That's right I use to upload a fair bit of those, I still have a couple of old one's from years ago which I never ended uploading haha. Although they weren't that popular which is why I stopped.😅
I heard that in DBZ they did this thing with animation where they would show multiple fists on screen at the same time to give the impression of speed, but this seems to be lacking in super making everything seem a bit more lackluster, also maybe talk about sound design? Some of the sound design felt weird at times, and I felt effects on blasts like the kamehameha wave felt too different or off with the colors and vibrancy, some of the blasts in ToP for example seem to not travel in a straight line sometimes too

There are so many Animators that i want to comeback for an episode or 2 just to see how they've improved or changed
Same, I would love to see Masaki Sato or Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru work on an episode or movie in the future!
ForgottenRelics, do you know which animator worked on the scene of Gohan trying to stop buu from hatching? Gohan looks absolutely sick in that scene.
If you're referring to when he does the kamehameha that was Noriko Shibata, but with heavy corrections (redraws) by the supervisor Tadayoshi Yamamuro.
@@forgottenrelics1197 Where can we gather information about which artist did what on a specific episode? And if there was redraws?
