Hi Jimmy, glad you’re making videos again. I’m studying with Chuck Anderson, he started me with the 2346 string set. He gave me the four C7 chords with roots at 1st fret 2nd string, 5th fret 3rd string, 8th fret 6th string and 10th fret 4th string. From there he gave me the formula to find Cmaj7 and Cmin7 on to 6th, and 9th chords, major, minor, diminished, half-diminished and augmented. I’m on to 1234 string set by simply moving the note on 6th to the 1st string. A shit load of scales and arpeggios, finger exercises and fretboard memorization. Really hope you start online school, not many of you old timers left, keep the music alive.

Love you Jimmy! Nothing but the best and inspiration. Praying always for you. Thank you for all you have been sharing. I showing us how the Guitar is a comforter during rough times. When I'm out of my Federal Court case that has destroyed my family and finances, I will 100% donate. Be encouraged, you have and continue to change each of our lives as Guitarists, Educators and beyond.

    Hey Jimmy!
The first time I heard you was on a radio show in Washington DC a few years back that had a program called G strings.
It was this song, All The Things You Are from your sleight-of-hand album. I was so blown away. I went to see you at Chris’s Café in Philadelphia where my brother lived.
I saw you several times in Little Washington, Virginia at the theater. You were so kind and on occasions when I asked you what type of guitar pick you were using you reached in your pocket and gave me your pick.
    I was very moved…
    Alan

Alan, I went to see Jimmy at the Theatre at Little Washington when he was playing with the late Joe Beck. I had just purchased a 7-string and couldn’t find a heavy enough low A string. I asked Jimmy what he was using and he reached into his gig bag and handed me a wound .080. Jimmy is a stand up guy for sure!

Thanks for making another vid... starting to take some tunes through the keys. I think that it helps solidify the structure. Satin doll has to be right up with the easiest melody but it sounds pretty cool being an 11th 9th & 13th. I guess could try subs after awhile and see what they are on those... Ah I was thinkin of asking about the strings cause it sounds so nice... Got to put 11s on one of the many I never play....maybe will start playing one..... used 14s on an acoustic I had for quite a while and all of a sudden I just said Damn this hurts my fingers..... Just put new strings on my main ax and I always forget how much better it gets .... sheeit

Never thought of resolving a 2,5,1 with a dominant major 7. Adds some nice tension. I'm going to experiment with some different voicings?? Thanks for that Jimmy. Dig your videos, gives me new things to apply to standards I work on.
You're one of the treasures in the guitar world!!!! I hung out with Gene Bertoncini in the 80's one summer and he was another mentor who changed my musical path whe I had lost direction.

Hey Jimmy thanks for the videos it’s great that you are sharing your knowledge and life experience. It seems like a lot of Jazz guitarists in the Philly area were inluenced by Dennis Sandole either as students or students of students. I’m curious what your thoughts are on him, I’ve never heard you talk about his approach to music and guitar. Thanks!

A coincidence that you mentioned the Wes piece of meat quote. Someone commented on that on another channel and I responded yesterday.
I think in that same interview Wes also said that he didn’t practice anymore. And then he said something like, How can I practice when I don’t know what I’m gonna play?

There's a lot of s*** about the guitar isn't there?"you can say that again.. you have to be a certain kind of crazy to want to be a guitar player on the caliber of guys like you and Peter Bernstein and all the other great players out there especially if you're playing solo. guys like Steve herberman who plays fingerstyle 7 string and play so pretty. I mean it's mind-boggling. Especially the physical aspect of it and not only that but when it comes to guitar it sure helps if you have a good quality instrument and of course it helps if you can plug it in so you don't have to work so hard. sometimes I try to do these background music jobs or restaurants and it's just so much work you got a really love it. I'm 66 and for the first time in my life I like an idiot ..wore some f***** up shoes and had to walk like 15 blocks.. next morning I could barely walk I had to go to the hospital so for the first time in like( I guess I've been playing 20 years) I haven't played the guitar in 2 weeks .I can't believe it ...it's not as bad as I thought it would be I still have my calluses and my leg is getting better to the point where I'm going to start practicing again because I got to get in those restaurants and make some extra money ...even though I'm a mediocre chord Melody player I can still make a few dollars playing background music. You sure are an inspiration so thank you Jimmy for letting me share. I sure can relate to what you said at the end there where you got to get back to work ..you sound like me where the social security check and the free Medicare and all that stuff that's all well and good but if you want some extra money you still have to go out there and do something. Unfortunately I've been on my own since the age of 16 and I never had anyone to tell me what I should be doing especially what happens when you get older. It seems like in this country you have to be below the poverty level or extremely wealthy because if you're in the middle you're screwed

Hey, thank you so much for your fucking time man. You make me so happy and laugh so hard. I learn so much and experience so much joy when practicing things you've put on here. Thank you for your personality, brain, education, and true art. Sounds great to hang with the guys-love to hear you so upbeat! Back to the practice room for me but sending love, positivity, and cigar money your way! Take care Jimmy and have a good fucking day! You're a real high motherfucker man, God bless you.
