  • We need to travel to local gaming conventions and run miniatures demos for people to help grow the hobby and get people interested in tabletop wargaming. In this video, I talk about my favorite game to run demos of at gaming conventions.

Had always been interested in wargaming, but never really got into it. This was mainly due to cost of entry for games like 40k, but after watching this video I was inspired to check this out. So far my friends and I have run a handful of games over the last couple weeks, having a blast with the system. We started out buying about 6 figures or so each from our LGS that sells Reaper Bones in batches for a pretty good deal and jumped right in.
The thing that I love about it the most is the freedom it gives me to shape a world, almost like Pathfinder (we play that about twice a month), and my friends have helped to create a sort of "universe" for our game. Albeit it is pretty generic, with the three factions being "The Kingdom" (Humans, Elves, Dwarves), "The Bone Tide" (Skeletons/Zombies), and "The Savage Clans" (Barbarians and monsters). As a creative type, painting the figures and forging a world that they come from with my buds has been an awesome experience.
I also recently bought the Advanced PDF and am loving the new additions like specific spells and reactions. Definitely will be incorporating it in our next game session.
Very happy I came across this video, as it's now ignited a new found hobby for me. Thanks man!

+Miccollo I absolutely love to read comments like this. I'm so glad you've found a new creative hobby that you enjoy in tabletop wargaming. I copied and pasted your comment into an email and sent it to Andrea (the author of Song of Blades and Heroes) because I think it's something he should hear, as well. Thanks for watching!

I’ve officially binge-watched your channel so many times that I’m getting recommended videos from 7 years ago. Haha
And yes, I’ve watched every video in the last 4 years AT LEAST 3-4 times each.

I love Flying Lead, too. Sometimes I run that at conventions, but it has a little bit of a steeper learning curve than Song of Blades and Heroes. Thanks for watching!

Thank you! I've started painting with my oldest, 10 years old, and that's gotten me back into the hobby. I've been trying to figure out how to best get him and my youngest (8) into table top gaming. I'm going to order this tonight!

Great video! I ran SAGA at a convention and it was a disaster so this year me and a friend are going to run SoBH because it is a perfect convention game

Too cool, Song of Blades is exactly what I was thinking about during your intro.. Great Choice and good advice overall !!

    Song of earth and water?
Sounds like the inverse of a very popular book series out there. :P

Based on your explanation of SoBH, I bought the pdf. Very cool. This is exactly the rules system I was looking for. It looks like GW is your main focus, but I have really enjoyed the other rules systems you have covered like Xwing, etc. You should do more of this kind of gaming evangelism. Thanks!

I have focused on a good deal of GW in the past, but now I'm starting to focus more and more on Flames of War, Malifaux, X-Wing, Dust Warfare, and other things here and there. I'm glad you liked SoBH, it's a great game. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for this video. Just got Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes. Love the game system. I have a ton of Reaper Bones that I've painted. Good to find a game I can use them all in.

      Hi Rob,
In this folder I have a spreadsheet of all of the first Bones KS with SBH stats using revised rules and a few of the supplements (each entry tells you exactly which supplements they use). drive.google.com/drive/folders/0Bw7WeAh30rD2dV9USDNuTFpvS0U?usp=sharing
I'm working on the others but I'm slow (and since I don't have the core sets for 2 & 3, I'm a little slower on getting those done). That being said, anyones is free to add their version of the stats for Bones II and III.

Reaper Bones line of miniatures would be well suited too. They are nearly indestructable. The only thing is they are unpainted.

The Song system is excellent. The Arthurian version is very good. Osprey Games has some Song-based games by the same author too.

+Ronald Delval I just got the PDF of Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes a few weeks ago, but I haven't gone through it yet. I'm looking forward to it, though. Thanks for watching!

Tabletop Minions yeah should be good. Though I'm not picking it up atm as I got too many generic rules as is. Dragon Rampant, Open Combat etc. I'm a rule-aholic as is! :) But I definitely agree with using vanilla Song of Blades (or the recent advanced version) to introduce people as it is more open ended than the dedicated Song systems.

I love SoBaH - the rules are tight, easy to learn, and you can use any miniature you want, not specific to a hobby.

Yeah, it's great And now there's Advanced SoBH, which is also really cool. Thanks for watching!

I love this game, both the SOBH revised and the newer advanced SOBH. Anyone can buy in for just $8 or $10 for the PDF and use whatever miniatures and terrain you have in almost any scale. The Table footprint is small, 2X2 feet for 15mm minis or less or 3X3 feet for larger scale miniatures. Like others have said, you can buy old boxes of Horrorclix or any minis on sale and get enough to make several warbands for under $20. I have had more bang for the buck from this game than any other I have played As Oneoldnerd, I endorse TM's message :-)

Ice Storm and Red Veil seem to basically be teaching sets for Infinity that would be very good at conventions.

Other sources would be Mage Knight and Dreamblade commons. I have some that I textured and repainted the base. Don't bother trying to rebase Dreamblade stuff unless you have a band saw or something to cut the mini off. The bases are made differently than any other minis I have ever seen and are extremely tough. I also soaked one in a tub of Simple Green for over a week without making a scratch in the paint. If you want to repaint one just spray primer over it.

Love this game but my warhammer buddy James could not love the fact you can lose your activation roll or lose initiative altogether. Andrea pointed out how the rules address this. Andrea is always on the Facebook group to answer questions too!

Have you had a look at the new Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes? What's the difference, is a new edition to replace the old one or is it a new system altogether? Which one are you going to use in the future? Thanks :)

    • @tabletopminions
      @tabletopminions  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I backed it on Kickstarter and got the PDF of it, but I've only looked it over once. It mainly seems like there are new magic additions, and little tweaks, but nothing really major. Thanks for watching!

If you arn't looking for a fantasy themed game but like the engine check out Flying Lead is more of a modern warfare version of Song of Blades and Hero's
    .

Have you had a chance to review the Advanced rules? Which do you prefer. I just bought both so I could compare them, since they are relatively inexpensive

After watching this video I bought ASOBAH and playtested it. It feels like beta-version. There are some good ideas but the game is unnecessary complicated. You have to memorize dozens of special rules because there are only 2 stats.
