    Job well done. Ive learned with painting that everyone has their own opinion and way. Their own technique and environment. If it works for you and you dont have problems than youre doing something right.

    I'll be doing this on a 14 ft. 1972 MFG NIAGARA boat. Im in the 80 grit prep work, removing bottom paint and overall sanding which help find those little stress cracks. I've got two linear cracks about a foot long which will be ground out and fixed with cloth and epoxy. The transom needs much work. I have already replaced the wood in it and plan to add a slash well as it is missing.

    Evercoat recommends thinning not more than 10% with acetone if necessary. Fortunately three cars later no issues with solvent pop or blistering.

    Because you thinned it you needed to apply more layers to achieve the proper build up. That why you ended through the hood. Better to have the right gun. Hope it don't blister from thinning with acetone. Acetone can change the color also. Nice car I have 2 Corvettes myself. You can add surface seal or wax and don't have to pva to get to cure. You could have shot that in your spray booth like every other Joe smoe. I prey that no blister come up after a year or so on that sweet car.

    Interesting, I'm building a Superlite SLC and the body is gel coated I'm considering leaving it that way and getting a nice paint job in the future.

    A few years ago when I planned to gelcoat the car there were no TH-cam videos on gelcoating cars, the only information I had available was the product information. Evercoat specifically states to thin not more than 10% with acetone if necessary. I didn’t have any other information or reason to believe otherwise. Comments have been posted to the contrary indicating acetone would cause blistering. I have not had any issues to date.

    You can use 50% derateck 50% gel coat 2% hardener and no pva is needed when you use duratec it will air dry and cure and the duratex makes it easier to spray no thining

    Why gel coat it when it was never gel coated from the factory?

    Never thin gelcoat with acetone use styrene monomer. That how you get blister. Chemical entrapment.

    Do you recommend this for a 82 Corvette and what product did u use for a filler when you was doing the body work?

    • @Chip6565
      @Chip6565  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used Rage Gold Premium Lightweight Body Filler. I would recommend the product for your 82. Others have advocated not to use acetone for reducing the gelcoat to prevent blistering.

    Hello, What did you do after it dried? Was it block sanded? and did you primer or sealer before top coat of base?

    Jealous of the car. I've been told that acetone breaks down bonds in gel coat and resin. Is there something different about the type of gel coat that you're using?

      It yellows it. Use MEK not MEKP, as mekp is catalyst but MEK or better yet, styrene monomer or duratech high glass additive. The duratech is more expensive then the gelcoat so be prepared to spend money but looks/works best.

    Why not roll this product with a foam roller?

    • @Chip6565
      @Chip6565  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has a pot life of about 20 minutes. It can be rolled or brushed on provided you can roll it out within the pot life.
