    I have been playing on a straight headjoint Trevor James Masters series alto flute from my schools music library for about 2 months now! I love the flute it has such a beautiful sound although I am very small so it’s quite difficult to play sometimes. Overall I love the alto flute and want to keep on playing it in the future! Thanks for another great vid Gina!❤️

    When I recently bought one, I opted for a Jupiter flute, which comes with both headjoints. I expected to prefer the curved headjoint (although it looks awkward on stage, imo). I've worked with both and find the same difference I hear with you. The curved head sounds slightly less resonant and there is a sort of buzz-like undertone that spoils the beauty of the sound just enough to know it is inferior to the straight head - imo.
    The Jupiter is really fine, so get it and you don't have to make a choice between heads, or you can switch back and forth. My biggest recommendation for the Jupiter flute is that the keys are ergonomically designed to enhance your reach and comfort. The difference is quite dramatic. I know because I once owned an alto with standard keys and I could never get comfortable with it. Go to the FCNY website Gina recommends and look at the pictures of the Jupiter so you can see what they did with the keys. Your left wrist doesn't have to twist and the keys of your right hand take the length of your middle finger into account. Both hands rest on the keys in a far more natural position. It is less expensive than the Trevor James and I'll bet the quality is just as good, plus you get a better design and two heads! Cheers.

    I prefer the straight head joint, but my girlfriend who is 5’4 prefers the curved head joint. Both sound good! I’m still adjusting to balancing it when I play the high C. I have noticed in your videos that you use the straight head joint. Thank you for discussing the positioning of the curved head joint. That is one thing I hadn’t figured out.

    When I play my alto flute I prefer the street head joint rather than the curved head right because it makes it more easier for me to play With the straight head right I’ve been playing out of Flute for one and a half years

    Well I actually have long arms and fingers since I'm the tallest in my family, even though I'm the youngest it'll be good for me to use a straight head I guess but hopefully when I save up money I get to buy an alto flute

    I tried an alto flute once and I got to try both headjoints and I decided that once I get one someday that I’m gonna get the straight headjoint because I have longer arms but I have shorter fingers but it fit me well. Also when I tried the curved headjoint, I thought that it sounded worse than the straight headjoint and I get like I was going to drop it.

    I gravitate towards the curved head joint because it's much more comfortable, even though I am a very tall person and have long arms!

    It is a fairly subtle difference, which could even be due to the position fo the flute relative to the microphone, but the low register sounds stronger with the straight Headjoint. This is a shame because I really want them to be equal for ergonomic reasons. I want to buy a curved Headjoint but I keep thinking the straight one sounds better. Sigh. Any chance you could do another curved vs. straight Headjoint comparison and relay emphasise some sustained low notes and spend some time in the lower register which will be the area of differentiation? Also, if one is choosing this instrument and repertoire over C flute, the character is hopefully designed for the different character of the alto. Like comparing viola and violin. Scales and fast double-tonguing I feel does not get to the 'heart' of the character of the instrument that makes it distinctive. Maybe compare pieces written for alto flute?

    When ever I am making flutes out of pvc I like to have the curved headjoint the way you do. It feels better than doing it with the curved headjoint parallel to the keys.

    The tone of Curved HJ is thicker than the straight headjoint

    What silver plated headjoint works for your TJ with straight headjoint? I love my Recital Series with my solid silver Michael Allen hj but yes, it would be great to have a curved for longer playing times.

    It's really hard to hear any difference

  • @timwilson170
    @timwilson170 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You fail to mention the difference between alto flutes which have extended left hand (Haynes, Artley, Pearl etd) and those that dont (Altus, Gemeinthardt, ) the latter being next impossible over long periods with acute distress in the left hand./
