I learned this technique of taping a pencil in front of the mic in the 70's at MEDIASOUND STUDIOS NYC - Happy to see it passed down to the 'younger generation'🙂
According to the book ‘Behind The Glass’ about record producers and recording, John Lennon hated his voice and liked to double his vocals. He also was mic savvy and would pass his hand in front of his mouth to avoid plosives while singing.
@@TheMaverickTaylorBand For me, that makes the audio sound less... good (less full). But that was doing it on an angle. I'll try face-on but singing more to one side and see if that works.
Had a friend that lives near Blackbird try to book a session there and was told they don't do "that music" there. He makes rap/hip hop. First time I've heard of something like that.
Michael mentions in in the full episode but it's so that Annie has full range of motion of her hands while singing and doesn't have worry about hitting an expensive mic :)
Looks like a Neumann PS20 (I could be wrong), but man, I've tried every pop filter from $20 to $130, even a pair of pantyhose in a cross-stitch loop, and there was no sound difference between any of them. Build quality, on the other hand... Let's just say a Sterling is going to break and the gooseneck will wear out prematurely.

@donwershba2319 we like your style!
ooooooh taping it to the filter, even better. takes the worry or stress about getting it up in time or leaving it up to distract from the performance.
Yes, but make sure it’s a Neumann pencil.
It would be 500$.
I'll provide you with an "acoustic energy diffusion device" for only $199!
😂

I was expecting this to be about an 1176.. Though I don't have a real 1176... I Got some pencils though 😁
Thanks!
Are they digital pencil emulations?
@@DeltaWhiskeyBravo13579 Not sure.. says UAD 2 on them
Love it!!! I love catching emotional vocals. Being too perfect is worried about too much
She can also try to back up away from the microphone like a foot or two. Being that close just makes your pronunciations more noticeable.
Backing up can be thinner and pick up the room and any equipment that might be there, although in an actual studio that's less of an issue. 8)
Don't dead head the mic. Sing past it a little off axis. Throws the siblance off to the side.

Good vocalist.
Annie is a GREAT vocalist!
@@insideblackbird To be great, you need to be recognized by millions of people or the best Grammy critics. So just a good vocalist.
@@sevchykBillie Eillish is a great vocalist
@@BukanIbuMu Not a fan of her.
@@sevchyk She's recognized by millions of people and won 9 grammies.
Now I gotta buy a pencil! 😫
What's the reason for having the mic up side down?

I thought that pencil is to keep her bit farther from the mic
Let me take note ..got a pencil?
Brand of the pop filter?

Wow, that beginning was repeated. Editing people, editing.
is this why people put their finger up to their mouth when shushhhing someone?!
thats crazy he got a cl1b but aint using it
Depends on the day and the material !!!
The T was the least of her problems. She strains on the high notes. Should have gone to a falsetto.
