In this video, we're comparing every version of Peter Jackson's King Kong released for the Playstation 2, GameCube, Xbox, PC, Mac, PSP, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance and Mobile
I'll never forget when i saw the 360 footage in person back in 2005 and just being in absolute awe of how it looked and sounded. Yeah, nearly 20 years later its not much but lemme tell ya, it blew my mind! Tho i do remember playing the DS version as well because my buddy had it. It was the most game of all time.
In 99.9% of cases you can be sure that if it had a tie in game, it had a DS version back in the day... I remember the Thor tie in game for the first movie had one. On console/PC the gane was a god of war Clone I believe, but the ds Version was a 2d brawler or something... Anyway, the DS was so rediculously successful that basically every tie in had a DS version as well
The 360 version was a bit of a showcase for what the 360 could do and was the highlight Demo on all of the kiosks. Although, it's kind of funny how the previous generation version kind of looks better in retrospect, some of those early HD games really haven't aged too well.
We would always mess around with the switching buttons and press them super fast constantly so it sounded like they were constantly going ‘No-Haha-Hi-No-Haha-Hi-No-Haha-Hi’
One of the best games I have ever had the privilege of playing. Put countless hours into the game on the PS2 back in the day. As I was only 8 - 9 years old when I first played this, I was absolutely terrified of the V-Rex levels... FUN TIMES!! 🎉🎉
10/10 best movie-based game, personally the only, for nostalgia. I remember how much i was invested in this game to replay this more than my fingers, especially my mom, considering this is a movie-based game and mom's a picky gamer (she'd play any retro PS2 alongside emulated NES & SNES games IN PS2, yet have weird range & pattern of games she'd play based on genres, but never star wars & movie tie-ins except for this one) I know this game like a very close relative. I know how to skip early swimming stage entirely by glitching onto the ledge where Ann's supposed to take route and obliterate tribesmen & trench monsters, i know what drygrass to burn and strategize for those annoying mini dinos & flying ones, and i still remember the anxiety, thrill, and panic of dealing with the V-rex like it was yesterday, either distracting it while the others are opening the gate or shooting burning spears at it, rafting while being chased like it's a theme park ride except your life depends on your spear/bone aim, and the last escape from it alone on the ground. And i prefer Hayes' death in here rather than in the movie
I always loved this game and it was the first time I ever experienced the Xbox 360 and it made me want to buy one, which I did like 3 years later but still. Lol
I remember playing the X360 demo at a store and taking a few hits as King Kong before realizing I wasn't watching a cutscene, but gameplay. I thought that graphics couldn't get any better than that. :D
I've played the PS2 version of it, and it still looks good on that port. Crazy that this game was made by UbiSoft. It's still one of the best licensed movie based games ever made. They even brought the cast to do voice overs.
I remember this game was one of my favorite game, I remember that I was 8 years old and I were sick, so my mom woke up me and told me " me and your bothers are going to the supermarket We wanted pass to the game stop at return, U want somthing? " So I asked for a Xbox 360 game about a green robot In the Cover that I don't remember the name. 4 hours later I woke up and I found the king kong games on my Desk near to the bed we're I was sleep. So after I seeing that game I jumped out of my bed and I trowh the game in the Xbox. I love evry evry second in that game, the fight against the insects, the fight with the raptors and the the kong vs v rex part was awesome, this is probably one of the best memory of my childhood
I had a friend who just kept telling me to play this game and I wondered very much why because I could barely stand the movie. Nice with a little throwback!
@@TheDeadmandillon I actually learned about it when I was trying to find the game online and decided not to download either version haha, but I loved the game still and yeah I saw MVG cover it brought back the star force trauma
I actually got this game before seeing the movie and was a bit annoyed at things that happened differently in the film. For the most part, I much preferred the Jack levels to the Kong levels, but I loved the ending levels in New York. I used to replay them over and over and try to destroy as many planes as I possibly could.
Man I remember playing this game on the 360 on launch being blown away by the visuals. Looking at them now all I can say is that rose tinted glasses are a real thing.
The GBA version was the first proper video game I ever played. I don't think I ever got past the opening area, but I loved playing it. Maybe I'll have to go back to it one day.
Another difference that is worth pointing out is that the 6th gen versions had these mini-cutscenes between levels, like the one at 4:33. They were very short, like 5-10 seconds. But they are not in the 7th gen version. Having played the game on PS2 in my childhood, and then getting a copy of the 360 version years later, I kinda missed those cutscenes.
Hi Flandrew, how did you go about dodging the Starforce DRM? I've wanted to replay the game for the longest time, but I'm a bit afraid i'll end up destroying my PC in the process. I've got the original CD too, but nowadays it's a bit hard to find a PC with CD drive...
I got to see this at the cinema and i think on Christmas eve i stayed up till 12 am then opened one game it was this on GameCube and it was a nice suprise a good game od probably like to Replay again one day
I was literally talking to someone else on Instagram about a couple of the demos on the PlayStation 2 Holiday 2004 or 2005 demo disk, and a demo of this game just so happened to be on that same disk. You had both a Jack Chapter, and a Kong chapter. But if I remember right, the start menu was different compared to the original console and PC release versions. Then again it was almost 20 years since that demo dropped, so I could be wrong on that part.
STORY TIME!!!! The year was 2005, me and my brother saw King Kong in theaters and of course we enjoyed it (tho I fell asleep at some parts because we were watching this film pass our bedtime because it was winter break) and when Christmas came by not only did we get the game based on the movie but also a Xbox 360 (it got the red ring of death a year later) but also some toys that were made to promote the movie and some Fantastic 4 toys from the 2005 film... And Lego Knights Kingdoms. Tl;dr = my siblings and I had a awesome Christmas back in 2005 because of this movie.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. The Xbox 360 version is the one I grew up with, but I also got the DS version much later on. That version is rough looking, but I like the weirdness of it.
The PS2 version on an emulator on pc in 4k with a high res texture pack looks soo good. i really recommend that version. Or the pc-version ported from the 360 version.
The java one has the best king kong design. The video game was my favorite video game on PS2. It was crazy good, one of the most immersive fps i've played on ps2.
3:03 This game has so much atmosphere. I was obsessed with it before it came out, constantly playing demos at GameStop or watching videos about it. Not so much because of the game but because I was intrigued by the Xbox 360 and its graphical upgrades.
I played the console, gba, and mobile version but I fall in love with the Java Symbian Mobile Game, it is brutal and the screen shakes! Reminds me when I was a kid playing it on my sister's phone haha
I had this on the gamecube when I was growing up, I remember the tommy gun being an absolute blast to use but usually never had more than two magazines for, when I found out about the cheats I sunk many more hours into it with unlimited ammo and the tommy.
On the ps2 version, there was a game progress ending glitch where a certain item for a door would never spawn in, leaving you to face endless raptors. Unfortunately, my copy had it.
I kept seeing this game at Walmart demoing the new 360 and I thought it would be a throwaway game and Kameo would be great. Never played either of them though.
I had a PS2 Demo Disc that included the opening segment and a kong level, I don't think I ever actually got the full game but I played that Demo non stop because of how cool it was.
Played this on the original Xbox and I was scared of the game that it took me a while to complete it. I remember using up all my ammo on the raptor sequence just to have to run around and kill it with the makeshift spears. Playing as Kong was fun though but playing as the MC was some scary stuff
Hey Flandrew, just wanted to mention that the Thumbnail art gets kind of messed up on desktop youtube for me because the length of the video overlays PERFECTLY on top of the last version on the right, so I struggled really hard to read what it was (Java? I just clicked on the video right now to comment, I dont have the time to watch fully rn). Hope you've been well!
I understand why they didn't include crosshairs and ammo counters, because they wouldn't have had them in real live, but they would have been nice to have. I liked the GBA throwback style.

I've checked if there's footage for the PSP multiplayer. It's apparently just a score attack. As in, you don't even see your opponent, you're just alone just like the main game.

King Kong was the first HD game I ever saw. Saw a demo of it at an electronics store and was impressed how great the dinosaurs looked.

All I remember hearing about the DS game was how ugly it looked.
One of the best movie tie-in games. Which given the usual quality of movie tie-ins you could argue isn't a high bar to pass, but even still.
🤓
@@Ghjgfjjgv legit this people are like parrots, everytime someone review a tie-in game your bound to find this comment on top.
Na bro that belongs to the warriors
@MrBobStephen, ONE of the best.
I liked how the game pretty much ran in real time for the whole game. Being able to switch weapons during cut scenes was really cool and useful.

But, Call of Duty 2 did. It's still a very solid launch title for the 360!
This was one of the hardest games of my childhood but I still recall it being an absolute banger. Never knew about that alternate ending tho.
The gba game was insane. Never beat it but got to the part where you rescue Anne. The switching character sound is burned into my brain
We would always mess around with the switching buttons and press them super fast constantly so it sounded like they were constantly going ‘No-Haha-Hi-No-Haha-Hi-No-Haha-Hi’
Honestly between King Kong, Batman Begins, Lord of the Rings and possibly Revenge of the Sith were all excellent movie tie in games
this game legit scared me as a kid on the OG Xbox.
Because of the enemy design and the vibe of the game, as a child I was often scared shitless to play this game (xbox 360 version)
I played it on PS2 back in the day and it's a surprinsingly great game. That being said, the face icon for Brody in the cellphone game is amazing lmao
Jackson liked BG&E so much that he requested Ancel to be game director
