Hello Adriana, I'm from a South Pacific Island Nation called Fiji. Listening to your language, in Fijian, when we greet people, we say "BULA" - (Hi)...in Malagasy it's "MBOLA". Actually, it's the same pronunciation, just different spellings. Your counting, Malagasy: "ROA", is Fijian: "RUA", it's the same pronunciation. Just different spellings. Your "TELU", is Fijian: "TOLU"..the 'E' is Fijian 'O', not the 'OU' pronunciation as in French. I see some similarities in our languages, but just different spellings..our pronunciation are exactly the same. I heard that some Fijians came to Madagascar in boat, and heard the locals speaking at the wharf as they arrived...they said that they heard them saying things, such as in English: "PULL THE ROPE"...in Fijian is "DRE MAI NA DALI"...Greetings in English: "HI"...in Fijian: "BULA"..Malagasy: "MBOLA TSARA"..Ok, "MBOLA TSARA" in Fijian would be "BULA SARA", would mean if I greeted you would be "WELCOME ALIVE". Actually, they're the same pronunciation but just differences in spellings. I've always heard that our Forefathers came from Tanganiika, somewhere in Tanzania, then travelled by boat to Madagascar. Some stayed back in Madagascar and some came over to the Pacific.
I can see that the numbers come from Malay, although some are less recognisable than others. Also Salama comes from salamat in Malay, which comes originally from Arabic of course.
The numbers do NOT come from Malay but rather from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian, along with Ma'anyan, our closest relative language. PMP ---> Ma'anyan | Malagasy *isa ---> isa | isa *duha ---> rueh | roa *telu ---> telu | telo *epat ---> epat | efatra *lima ---> dime | dimy *enem ---> enem | enina *pitu ---> pitu | fito *walu ---> walu | valo *siwa ---> suey | sivy *se-puluq ---> sapulu | folo
