I've done this flight around the same time you did. Any flight over 12 hours starts to mess with your head in my books... Auckland Dubai takes the cake for me - thank god it's in an a380.
When flying to Europe I break it up into 10-12 hour flights. Auckland - Tokyo, HK, San Francisco are great stopovers. Have yet to try Singapore, Vancouver or Shanghai as my half way but on the list.

I agree. Tokyo would be a great stopover.

I'm doing this flight en route to Australia in December. I expect NZ will be not quite as good as Qantas in the food department, but otherwise about the same. My only worry is the winter weather in ORD, a problem you obviously didn't have. Thanks for the video -- it looks good.

Yes, the weather may be a challenge in Chicago in Dec. As for the food, I'm never occured to me that Qantas offers superior food to Air NZ, or is it portion size?

Nice one! I love that we can fly direct to ORD now, it’s a great route. What did you think of the Canary Squeeze? It’s such an odd concept, I’m still on the fence about it…

Its great to fly direct into Chicago. I'm the same about the canary squeeze. The concept is good having packaging is plant based and breaks down.

No, not really. Air New Zealand seat pitch is 78 cm (30 inches). Emirates A380 has 32 inches.

How did you find the seat width? They seem to have one of the narrowest seat widths for long hauls...

I'm not sure but it felt very cramped. The issue was more the pitch which was 30 inches compared to 32 inches in Emirates.

It's been a while Robert since you placed anything and wow an AKL- Chicargo flight
Dispite your trip being in cattle class it's good to hear you got a great sleep and the food looked better than Qantas Business Class
I wss amazed to see how full the flight was.
    An interesting vlog
    Keep em coming ✈️ 👍

Any advice for someone going in a year or so who’s afraid of flying…. I fly every year for work just not that far just worried about panicking

I've found the A380 to be a really pleasant flying experience. It's so large and the walls are only very gently curved giving it a feeling of a more traditional room rather than a plane if you feel claustrophobic. Headphones, meditation, medication and decent food. Do not drink. Also tell the crew you're a nervous flyer. You'll be alright on the day. Line up some movies and away you go.
