The untranslatable joke is a word-joke that only works in Dutch. He is in his story about buying a farm. Then he says, he already has a farm located. And he will already start 'verbouwen' (most likely meaning renovating) next week: Two acre of maïs. Which is funny, because 'verbouwen' also means 'grow a crop', but the public was led to believe it meant 'renovate' by the context at first.

Herman's style of commedy is verry unique. full of wordly gags and twisted mindset without being rude to groups of people or cursing.

Yes it absolutely was! Until he got cancer and later did his new year's conference.
      I wish I hadn't seen that one.
Beautiful memories should remain in the past. He absolutely was amazing!

I gave up on listening to what he actually said. Baskoning here did explain the joke and it is very clear that it was an impossible task to actually translate it and your sollution to this problem was really hilarious! There were a few bits before it that didn't get translated for some reason but besides that: a job REALLY well done! :-)

Brother- I WISH U could fully experience this in it's full glory. I'm from Hengelo / next to Almelo where he is from. He is genuinely one of the most genius comedians from the Netherlands. When you speak Dutch and get his accent / dialect he is the funniest. But what I love- All of NL loves his jokes. He is dryer than English humor by x 1000. But it makes me so happy he makes you laugh even through translation....Cool channel bud. Keep it up.

Yesss.... i went to his show in 1997 or around that tme.
He had cancer later and he is oké now, but made a show about the process. Best show ever. We had dinner and show ticket and he was 4 seats away from us eating in the theater.
My day was already perfect, seeing him before the show. Just eat with the addience 😂❤
The girl wanted a dollar, that was normal . Go to neighbours when you got a school rapport. And the gave some money. Mayby typical dutch.,😂😂
Hope you go watch many more.

To explain the untranslatable joke. He talks about buying a farm and then explains he'll be renovating (or rebuilding) next week. He follows up by "two acres of corn". This is a wordplay because renovating and planting use the same word in dutch.

Herman Finkers. One of my favorites!!!! He is from the east of the netherlands. There is a different kind of humor: it’s rude but it’s not rude of you know what i mean….

Seeing your reaction on the "trouwen met de handschoen" joke (to marry with a glove (instead of a engagement ring) it seems to me, you don't know what this means also. In the past, when the Netherlands occupied many colony's like Indonesia New Guinea, Surinam and even Ceylon (Sri Lanka) there were a lot of young Dutch men that had to leave (in the army, the navy of as a civil servant) their loved ones (and fiancee) to keep order and repress the native population. Instead of to get married together in the town hall. exchanging rings etc. They could have a symbolical marriage (often by longe-wave radio broadcast) and in stead of rings to seal the marriage, they used a glove. So the gloves have noting to do with cold hands during winter.

Finkers! Good choice, though he plays a lot with words you might not get in a different language. As someone else already mentioned “verbouwen” can mean different things:
    “to renovate”
    or
    “to cultivate”
This guy is amazing with that kind of humor and if you don't get it, there's aperfect opportunity to learn the words, their meaning and why it's so playfully humorous.

  • @rmyikzelf5604
    @rmyikzelf5604 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Herman Finkers is maybe 50% word puns, which makes him difficult to translate. The other 50% is his ultra dry delivery of the most hilarious situations and one-liners that rhyme. 'Do you have a sleeping bag(sack)? Yes, I sat with my legs crossed for a bit too long." "The number of endangered animal species is growing rapidly. One might even call it a plague" , "The best jokes are the ones that aren't made up. But just try to come up with one of those!" "A book says more than a thousand words." "Sometimes I'm pondering for hours and get nothing written down on paper. Sometimes that takes me just 5 minutes!" "You can divide women up into two groups. But I wouldn't, if I were you"

There is soooo much lost in translation. Way more than usual. His dialect and choice of words is practically completely lost.
Guess that's why it appears more random than it would to any native Dutch person.
