The round fender has a cable that doesnt allow it to push down. The cable method relies on weight alone. If a 2 system lift and drop rods on a hinge and take out the cable with pulley wheel i think you could get the round fender to work.

Are you going to get a head mounted camera, it may be a good investment instead of having to use 1 hand to control the 3 handed configuration.
I have one but the last time I used it people said that I should just set up a tripod instead
