Home Alone 2 is a rehash, but everything rehashed is done in a more fun way than the original, whether it’s the location, the traps, or the characters. Also, Tim Curry single-handedly makes the best middle act of a Home Alone film. Home Alone 2 easily my favorite
I prefer home alone 2 for some reason I find it more interesting and it isn’t just set at 1 location it’s set everywhere round New York

Personally I love home alone 2 the most, something about that New York setting and the small heartfelt stories with the side characters and the classic hotel scenes with Kevin toying with the employees, one of the best Christmas movies ever

I also think home alone 2 is more festive than home alone 1, HA2LINY mentions Christmas more often, has more Christmas imagery and ideas, as well as having more Christmas music, home alone 1 has Christmas more as a framing device than it does it being actually about Xmas, I had no idea home alone even was a Christmas movie until I watched it (the first time I watched it wasn’t in Christmas) home alone 1 could easily be set in the summertime

i was 9 when 3 came out.. decided it looked like a rip off and vowed not too watch it (dramatic much? :) ) but to this day have not watched any of the sequels past 2 and it doesnt seem like ive missed out on much..

Home Alone 1 and 2 are just timeless classics. They’re so memorable, so hillarious, pretty damn emotional and so timeless. They’ll never age, they’ll still continue to be amazing 30 years later.

i finally got to see the orignal in the cinema in 2019 (i was 5 when it came out).. it even holds up in a cinema setting.. people where still naturally laughing at the jokes and slapstick .. it just doesnt get old..

It's hard to watch the other Home Alone movies because there is no Kevin.
Is it just me or does it feel like Home Sweet Home Alone is like the original movie, but without John Huges good writing, John Williams great score, and the likable main character.

the scene where Kevin and his mom find each other in the original movie at the end gets me every year.
Not gonna lie, I did appreciate the rimshot when poking fun at Scarlet Johannsson being in Home Alone 3. Also, love him or hate him Trump did own the Plaza hotel at that time, so his cameo does make a bit of sense.

I could not agree more! The first one is so timeless, so original and so heartfelt with a fantastic cast and some of John Williams' best work. However I have to say I prefer the 2nd one because of the hotel scenes which probably has a little to do with my childhood obsession with hotels in general. But anyway nonetheless the first two are both an A+ for me!
im starting to think can we just stop arguing which one is better or if 2 is a rip off and just look at them as one great 2 part Christmas movie? im pretty sure most people watch both back 2 back anyways and regardless of which they think is the best...

I liked them all. The bad ones are guilty pleasures. The first two is the best. Home Sweet Home Alone while it has good moments it's a disneyfied version of Home Alone.
For me home alone 1 and 2 are extremely close for me. I enjoy the third act of 2 more, but I liked the family dynamic in 1 more.
Personally I think the second home alone is even better than the first

Home Alone 2 is actually my favourite. It takes everything from the original and makes it bigger and better. The location (New York), the side events and characters (the toy store, the pigeon lady, the hotel and it's staff), and obviously the final battle at the house, with the traps being bigger and better than before. Everything is just a step up for me, so that's why it's my favourite.

Might just be me but Lost in New York has always been my favourite but 1 & 2 are both classics!
Personally for me: 1,2,3,6,5,4. Only ones need watching are first 3. First one is in my top five 🎥s of all time, 2 I watch every thanksgiving (I randomly watched on thanksgiving one year 16/17 years ago and it stuck), 3 is underrated cuz it’s the one that makes the most sense why he’s home alone. New one is BLEHHHHHHHHHHHH
I've only seen the first 4. The first two are holiday classics, I've always thought Home Alone 3 was very underrated, loved it as a kid and 4 was very bad.

Honestly, 3 hits the right marks with the exception of The Espionage Villains. They were too much but the rest actually felt plausible.

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York is my favorite Christmas movie of all time. It’s for sure in my top 5 movies of all time. I’ve only seen the first two and Home Sweet Home Alone and call me crazy but I kinda enjoyed Home Sweet Home Alone. Something about it kind of worked for me. Great video!

I haven’t seen home alone 4 and home alone 5, the 4th looks terrible so I’ll never watch it. I’ll probably never watch the 5th either so here is my ranking that I have seen from best to worst:
1: Home Alone 1 & 2 Lost in New York (the first and second are a tie for me, they’re both so so good and it’s hard to pick which one is better between the two, they’re both classics and I watch them every year and I never get sick of them, my all time favourite Christmas movies)
2: Home Alone 3 (it’s okay, not as good as the first two. I haven’t seen it in a while though so I might finally watch it again this year)
3: Home Alone Home sweet home (I just watched it yesterday and it wasn’t too good but it definitely was cute and the best part in it was Buzz returning)

I used to really like Home Alone 3 as a kid it was actually my favorite for a little while. But rewatching it a few years later as a teen, I see now that it's not nearly as good as the first film or even the 2nd one. I still think it's a fun and entertaining sequel maybe just due to the fact that I grew up with it.

I remember when I watched the third one as a kid and thought that it was good but no near the first 2 and that this will probably be remembered as the worst one... little did I known. Watched it again couple of years ago and it was better than I remembered.
I haven't seen Home Sweet Home Alone yet and I absolutely refuse to watch the 4th or 5th ones.
3. Home Alone 3-One of my least favorite movies of all time. I hate the kid, I hate the burglars, the logic is laughably flawed, and it's horrifically unfunny

For some reason to this day The Holiday Heist feels like a Alternate Reboot of the first movie: Both had the main characters Kevin and forgot the Holiday Heist Main protagonist name went shopping to set up trap(s), both Antagonists had a reason of robbing the house for a wealthly reason, and the parents are worried and are struggling to head home.
The original Buzz McCallister was included in the movie in “Home Sweet Home Alone” as a police officer.

Home Alone 1 and 2 will forever be my childhood!! Classic movies I watch every year. I visited the home alone house in Chicago a few summers ago and started crying 😂. Love those movies.

I feel like what most Home Alone movies did outside of the first two was that they didn't try to make the main plot focus on Christmas and family stuff but more on the villain.

#4: Home Sweet Home Alone (I have mixed feelings of it)

Home Alone 2 is my favourite Home Alone movie so clever with it's jokes and the theme of spending Christmas with your family is even stronger than the original the part where Kevin puts the movie on and the hotel stuff gets tricked

I agree with the comments saying Lost in New York is better than the first. It's a lot more action-packed, the new side characters are diverse and the hotel scenes expand on the escapist's charm. Both movies are still Christmas classics.

"I thought Disney would at least capture the spirit of Home Alone", yes, because Disney is so great at capturing the spirit of stuff. Look at how well the Sequel Trilogy captures the spirit of Star Wars, especially how The Last Jedi captures the spirit of Luke, nephew murdering green-milk sucker, like they captured the spirit of Star Wars as much as M. Night Shyamalan captured the spirit of Avatar XD

Haven't seen the newest one. There was a 4th? No there wasn't
How have they not done a dark-comedy home alone follow-up? Culkin can return as a grown up living a dull life until he gets caught up in some bad stuff, and has to use similar (likely bloodier) tactics to defend his home. Doing this gives him the feeling of joy he's been missing for decades! The Christmas Spirit is alive and well! 😃
It may not be good and wouldn't be a family film, but it could be something fun for fans of the original.
My favorite is Home Alone 2 and I think 3 has some good traps.
Home Alone 1 and 2 are the most magical Christmas movie ever for me.Just pure masterpiece and greatness. Magic is there.
To me 3rd film is the best, and logical one.
1. Alex had a more reasonable cause for staying home, unlike how Kevin got "Lost" twice, stupidly.
2. Alex family is more resembling a family, parents whom loved him, simple sibling conflicts. The Mcallister family was horrible asf, even after 1 year the family is still as horrible asf.
3. Alex and the team had small crossfire to build up the intensity of the clash, unlike Kevin whom stupidly roams about.
4. Official help was called in for by Alex multiple times but only turned out to be false alarms, forcing him to take matters into his own hands. In 1 & 2, police never existed until the end of the conflict - i guess American liked that? Polices shouldnt existed i guess.
5. Interactions between neighborhood. Paying for damage to their houses during the false alarms. In HA1, neighborhood are as dead asf.

Imo, out of the later movies (everything except 1 and 2) home alone 4 is one of my favourites. It has a wholesome ending, I really liked the idea of some guy you played video games with trying to help you, I think the fact that they managed to incorporate video games into it in an arguably authentic or realistic way hits a sweet spot for me.
The video games bit you're talking about was in HA5 not HA4.

I'll admit, as a kid I watched Home Alone 3 a lot and I loved it back then. But since then I haven't watched it again in many years though I could probably still look back at it as a guilty pleasure. With Home Alone 4 however I've only seen it once years ago and I hated it and because of that I have never had any reason to ever watch it again nor have I ever seen any of the other Home Alone movies after that. Home Alone 1 and 2 are all I need from this franchise. They are still classics to me and I always watch them every year around Christmas time.
There was no reason for this to be a franchise. The 2nd one was fine for a little more fun but anything past that is just pointless. The new one makes me the most angry because unlike the other ones it actually has a decent budget behind it even though it's an empty movie that doesn't deserve the resources being spent. It just goes to show how creatively bankrupt Disney is.
home alone 2 is the first film where I've heard sean chandler say "On paper its a BAD idea, but the execution is GOOd"
If I'm being honest, I go back and forth on the placement of 2 and 3 a lot. I feel like 2 is really lazy in terms of story, but it's still just enough to be entertaining and memorable. I also feel like the traps are a little too extreme given the age of Kevin. The third movie is a lot more complicated in terms of plot and doesn't hit the highs nearly as much as the 2nd and first, but I feel it's an extremely unique and interesting take on home alone along with the movie being more thrilling than 2 without the memorably. 2 just feels more like home alone as it nearly copy pastes the elements from one, not nearly hitting as hard as 1, while 3 tells a more thrilling and interesting story, while being much more complicated putting me off a little. No idea which I would put above the other. Besides that I agree with your ranking almost perfectly.
Honestly with the new movie I’ve seen it twice to test a theory. About half way through the traps I thought the twist would be that the kid was gonna be the villain. So watching it a second time imaging the kid as the villain. Was actually a lot more fun and kind of made the trap scene a lot more fun to watch

Home alone and home alone 2 are great classics then I would go with home alone 3 then home alone 5 lastly home alone 4 haven't seen home alone 6 yet that's my ranking

I love the original 2. They were great and even though the 2nd one wasn’t too original it was still funny and good. I always go back and forth on which one it my favorite, but I think it’s the 1st.
