    I'm a well-educated, 30 year old Russan citizen who was born in Moscow and lived my first 20 years there but my most recent 10 in the US. Julia has the best grasp on the modern Russian history, and Putin Era specifically, of pretty much anybody I have heard in the English-speaking media. She is honest, her reporting is very well-sourced, she is very "in the know" about Russian politics, and understands both sides of the US-Russia relations. Thanks PBS for interviewing her. It totally mirrors my personal experiences in Moscow, be it Bolotnaya protests or Medvedev's restart of relations with the West and the sense of optimism that was in the air then. I left in 2012 for the US to study for my doctorate, right after the HUGE wave of protests she talks about, and it was the best decision I've ever made, as I witness the corrosion of democracy and, more importantly, civil liberties, in Russia, where all my family still lives.

    PBS should be applauded for giving this the time and focus it deserved. Ioffe is an intense and impressive speaker & teacher and is so excellent at distilling this for the lay audience. Plus she’s relatable, just in how she speaks. Given what’s going on in the world, she deserves her own show. She deserved it before, but now? Now she deserves it and we collectively need it! If the major networks plus premium channels like HBO Max aren’t fighting over her then something is really wrong with this world. I mean they’ve got to be duking it out right now. I look forward to watching whatever show she and her team decide to create.

      No, I think a show would be a waste of her talents. Shows are episodic, and are generally expected to cover something new every day, or week, or month. She's very in-depth. Her focus and context is literally years. Even when she talks about the current Ukraine invasion, her observational context (from which she draws what she says about it) goes back decades. I think her long context is a large part of what makes her stand out to all of us. I would _never_ want to see her intellect confined to the fad of the week.

Then there's the fact Fiona Hill testified Christopher Steele was played by Russian disinformation and that nothing in his report was true. Oh and the DOJ just dropped their case against Concord Management who the Mueller Report said was another Russian sock puppet influencing the 2016 election. Basically the entire Russia Russia Russia story was a hoax to dirty up Trump for an impeachment.

Most likely she is torn inside, seeing America fall apart wondering why the American media constantly bashes the white man. Once she studies GMO food, autism vaccines and 5G she will wish she was financially independent enough to leave that CIA job with the Think Tank and maybe so some real independent reporting that could help America. Julia Ioffe looks like she used to be very beautiful, but working at a job that concocts lies and pumps out falsehood which any reasonable American can see is false, this all puts so much strain on her emotionally that her beauty slowly disappears, being replaced with anger, anxiety, confusion and depression.

Bill Clinton loved having alcoholic Yeltsin in power in Russia while Goldman Sachs propped up the band of oligarchs by giving them money to buy as much infrastructure as they could in Russia. The US didn't have for one moment Russia's best interests at heart. Bill Clinton even facilitated loans to Russia as well as PR so that Yeltsin could be elected for one more term when the Russian society was in complete collapse. Yeltsin asked Clinton for money so that he could increase the pensions to win votes in the older demographic. Funny how such damaging policies inflicted by the US on Russia are simply ignored in an attempt to dethrone Putin. Misogynist jokes aside, people forget that all modern societies are human farm operations. The only real reason why you have your limited "freedom" is because they can increase economical production if you think you are free and have options.
      As to Goldman Sachs being a private entity. C'mon, do you think at a certain level it matters if a company is private or not? Three weeks ago BP had to throw away billions of dollars in order to comply with the assault of economic sanctions launched after Putin invaded Ukraine.
      Biden has been pumping weapons since December (according to Washington Post) into Ukraine then when the invasion started he goes on to offer Zelensky to form a government in exile to which Zelensky refuses and becomes a national hero uniting the country behind himself and mounting a stiff resistance. I mean think about it. They pumped tons of money and weapons into Ukraine which can be see as an investment and then he offers him the offer to leave?!? That was such a fucking an orchestrated theatrical move. Biden & Co must have been over the moon when Putin finally committing to invading Ukraine. Ukraine is just a bait so that Uncle Sam can get his hands on Putin. those people dying are dying at the hands of the US as much as at the hands of Putin himself. Not only that but they keep ignoring the fact that in the early 2000's Putin was looking for closer ties with Europe and NATO but they've chosen to isolate Russia. Even cold war strategists said isolating and closing the door on Russia while expanding NATO was a mistake. The US should have put in place a "Marshall plan" for Russia in the 90's if they had such good intentions and let it rot but the problem is that the US is interested only in global dominance and nothing else. They are no charitable organisation. Often times the Marshall Plan is being shown as being a helping hand from our friends in the US but the only reason this helping had came was to counter the communist USSR. Conclusion, don't pick sides, they're both just as bad. And don't die for your country. Your country is just an idea others have stuffed into your head. It's all a mad man's game.

    • @florinmoldovanu
      @florinmoldovanu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johngrunwell6101 Hi John, you're right but that's just half the story. The United States needs your support so that the it enforces its system of enslavement through debt throughout the world in order to keep the perpetual consumerist culture going. I'm not absolving Putin of any guilt or crimes he might have committed all I'm saying is that taking into consideration all the variables the expansion the West is pushing for towards the east it has nothing to do with the betterment of the average citizen but the subversive domination of other countries. The economical system is flawed and if it doesn't expand it would collapse on itself this is why the western ideology is perpetuated throughout the world in order to keep the system going. In turn the system transforms resources into products which in turn are the main cause of environmental degradation. Putin's attitude wanted Russia to play the game of capitalism. In the early 2000 he's been flying around shaking everyone's hands to get Russia into the global economic system and was looking for closer ties with Europe. We could ask ourselves why was not Russia given a chance. Most probably because Russia is a very big country with huge potential and the US would have lost influence over Europe if Russia would have developed its economy as fast as China did. The idea is that sooner or later Russia is going to grow anyway and with the rise of China the US and Europe will have to come to their senses regarding what demands the can or can not impose on other countries. Democracy and freedom are just good for the cattle so that they go to work and pay their taxes but in the high circles it's all about power and greed and I think Putin has been patient enough with EU and NATO's attempts to acquire influence to hijack the political system in Russia. Of course the laymen want democracy and freedom because from their position they don't see the geopolitical game that's being played but freedom is an abstract term and democracy is subject to the pressure capital can exert in order to achieve a desired outcome. In Russia all media is owned by the Kremlin, in the west the media is "free" but it's in the hands of a few corporations. so democracy and freedom can go out the window. It's just a useful tool in the business of human farming.

U see some fancy white lady with supposed experience on the subject and swallow every word she is saying. U wont fact check a single thing she says. You assume what she says is facts. Same with people in Russia. They can literally use this exact video and just write their own subtitles over it to provide a different narrative and the public will believe every word. America is known for its fake news but when we look at others we assume we can easily see through their propaganda and lie to ourselves ab our critical thinking. Even if you disagree with the words she says, thats still the narrative people will fight over. Debating only the things she said since it becomes info they can present in an argument. Thats why people often respond with propoganda rhetoric when questioned about their beliefs. They repeat what is constantly repeated to them

    We (of the West and especially in the United States, we…) have been conditioned to believe in this manufactured cloud hanging over everything Russia. -Along comes this woman, Julia Loffe.- Her voice shines like a floodlight of truth on the whole theater. I can’t say I’ve experienced anything quite like her before. There is a sort of quiet rage about her. Her courage cannot be overstated. And it is wonderful just to witness.

      17:12 Let me have a contradictory position to the majority of those who coment on this documentary.
      Although she's good looking and presentable avoids certain straight facts regarding US foreign policy during the Yeltsin years. Putin of course is a dictator and a gangster, but at least with Putin you know who he is. These motherfuckers are wolf in sheep's skin, you think they are doing journalism whereas actually they are pushing an agenda. Disgusting.
