    Best explanation of how to deal with reversing loops that I’ve found - many thanks. Indeed all videos - that I’m steadily working through - are so helpfully explained.

    Hi Grant - I have nearly caught up and must say I have found following your journey from the start very useful. There is a lot to think about and must say I was impressed with your guts in opening up the Dapol Bubble and putting in the Stay Alive in !! Putting crew and passengers in does make the difference and that is something I wish to do . Have just finished having a play with Anyrail I have got the first draft of a track plan finished this afternoon. I will be making a video in the next few days on the track plan and if you have the time I would appreciate you having a look and seeing what you think . - Cheers Kev

      Thanks for the comments Kev, much appreciated.
      Look forward to seeing your trackplan too, AnyRail is a great bit of software, quitye easy to pick up & fun to play with.

    I don’t find this at all boring at all, it’s great to see and how you get around the problems.

    Hi Grant. Nice to see progress. Glad you working on fiddle yard as an entity. As for 2 loops not quite long enough for 2 HSTs...There lies your problem and solution!!!! HSTs don't need loops. Just turn the outside loops into sidings, as they run backwards just as well and don't need access to the reversing loop! These sidings will be much longer! Best regards Gary

      Thanks Gary. Believe it or not i hadn't thought about it that way, even though it's obvious!
      My concern however would be pushing a long train over complicated trackwork, would it be ok?
      i've never actually done this so i'll have to give it a go. Cheers!

      @@GrantWilliamsRailway Hi Grant. Sometimes we all can't see the wood for the trees lol but it's good you have people offering you tips on here. Well I only have older generation lima and hornby HSTs with only one power car, one dummy, but they run fine either way. A lot comes down to the couplings. I don't know if the new hornby sets you have have optional bar coupling (like their pullmans do), which would be even better pushing.

    Wow Grant, that's one hell of a layout. I don't think I could cope with all that wiring to contend with and I wouldn't even know where to start. I am just keeping my layout as simple as possible, because for one thing, I haven't got the space to have too much track work in my small shed. But I should have enough with four main running tracks, a separate branch line wired up with a shuttle module and a double track tramway to operate. Anyway Grant, I wish you all the best with what you are doing and it will be a cracking layout, when it's all up and running. Looking forward to your next update.
    Kindest Regards
    Geoff

    Grant, you are inventive with the chains. Good to see. Have you ever considered to use the reversing loop as the entry of the findle yard? In the worst case you maybe good store an extra two trains, waiting for a free track. The length of de reversing loop is then important, but I think de track next to the yard and the circle are long enough for two blocks. Chears, Harry

    I know its late now however you could of kept the original fan entrance and had a harp exit that would make the tope few lines longer so would be able to fit your hst. Would also start your reversing loop further back. Could of also made your fiddle yard modular to make it easier to work on fit and remove.

    Hi Grant,
    The longest track you have is in the middle. The shortest at the outer edges. Why not use the nearest track as your run-through track? This would leave the middle track free for the HST, where it looks like it would fit easily! This would have the added benefit that whatever you put into the little spur would always be available, as the spur would then be off the through line, rather than off a potentially occupied siding.
    I'm not much of a fan of 'round-and-round' but I have enjoyed watching your videos. Keep up the good work.
    Graeme

      Thanks Graeme, i think that's what i'm going to have to do. you make a good point about the little spur too, i didn't consider that. Regards, Grant.

    You could always store a HST where you put that extra point you just extend the track then when you come to take it out all you've got to do is reverse it back then go forwards

    amazed how far your railway has come found your first video about 2 months ago and worked my way through tham having just returned to modeling after 40 yrs your videos have been extremely helpful.one comment I noticed was that to make your blocks non contuctable you used a dremel to cut track instead of insulated joiners.my frustration is nylon joiners do you think the same could be done to electrofrog points instead of those dam joiners look forward to next video keith 2327

      Thanks for your comments Keith, much appareciated. I'm so pleased about to read your comments on insulated rail joiners, they are so annoying! I've wondered for ages if someone could design a better version, made out of an insulating but more rigid material. From an engineering point of view i understand the difficulty of making something so small out of nylon, but the problem is that it's lack of rigidity means that they often don't keep tracks aligned & it also makes points very difficut to joing together, espeically in areas of complex pointwork.
      As you say, I stopped using them on flexitrack blocks, i use metal joiners & then cut the rail as required further down the track. I have considered doing this with points, just after the frog on the joining track side, but haven't done it yet! i think i may mention this in a future update to see what other people think. Regards Grant.

    Grant, I was wondering if your HST would fit in the outer track on the fiddleyard, the one nearest the shelves, it looks a bit longer when you watch your video, worth trying it perhaps.
    Good Video though Grant,
    Best Wishes withe layout

    Can you do a video on how to lay track with sleeper gaps. I have trouble when laying track I just can't seem to do those sleeper gaps you do ~ are they for expansion or something??

  • @derrickjones8149
    @derrickjones8149 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Grant, won't the HST fit in the furthest loop in the storage yard? That length of track should be a wee bit longer because of the curve. Looks to be on the video anyway, obviously worth checking out for the sake of an inch or two.

      Good point Derrick, i never thought of that, i'll check it out tonight!

    Hi,
    Thanks for subscribing I have reciprocated and will look at some of your content but am at the moment trying to keep up with thanking the new subscribers since Dragon Junctions shout out.
    Good luck with your build.
    Cheers Robert.

    I genuinely do not understand why you wouldn't add the few extra inches in that you wanted. It makes me feel like I obviously don't "get" it. That was your main wish for that section - why didn't you do it? Seems like you easily had room to add a few more inches in.

    • @GrantWilliamsRailway
      @GrantWilliamsRailway  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately the problem was that i had sufficient length but cut too much off! Fixing this problem would involve too much work, i should have measured more carefully before i cut! Regards Grant.
