An informative video and an excellent mandrel Jon ! Wishing you a and your family a very happy Christmas and many thanks for the superb service that you provide , Cheers, Bram
Really informative video as always. A great site and great service with all the back up videos to go along with them.. Happy Christmas to you and yours. Take care and stay safe.
It is a softshell jacket, primarily for warmth, I have a turning smock which was clearly designed by a cretin with velcro on the sleeves and pockets on the back. One day I shall design a properly thought out one - when I have run out of ideas in metal😁
I forgot to mention the "softshell" fabric hates woodchips & dust, it just falls off, acrylic & plastic bits stick to it but it is way better than cotton - just have to watch the sleeves. Ordered from GoCustom Clothing here in Ludlow, Shropshire.
That’s great . Off to order one now. Just a thought, could you make something like this for turning the brass close ended pens? I’ve made a few now but still struggle not to crush or Mark the threads in my jaws. Lost a few kits when it flew out of the jaws too as there isn’t too much to grip on to. Would a mandrel like this work well for those?
You could try it but it's not quite the right size, have you tried using the drill as a mandrel? we have a separate video on this - you need to be a bit careful, or invest in a set of engineers transfer punches - mine prove invaluable for lots of tasks - not tried using as a mandrel yet but they may work - when I have time I may do a vid. Jon
@@prokraftuk I have the pen disassembly punches so could try them, but if the mandrel worked I could see that being really safe - if this mandrel doesn’t work then can you design one specifically for the pens please 😂 - just keeping you busy 👌
you could try tapping your blank with an M8 thread, turning it and then enlarging the hole to 9mm - might work, not tried it. Yes we can make a specific mandrel however we have to make at least 1000 of them, I could have passed away before we sell that many!
Great idea John. Do you have to take the jaws off the Chuck to use the mandrel or can it be just popped in the Chuck with the standard jaws still in place. Cheers, Lee FloatyBoaterWoodturning
You can use it with the jaws still in but it then works like a round mandrel and has to be really tight, it is not quite as secure, I use Record chucks, other manufacturers may be different. Better without jaws- there are less bits to catch your fingers on!
Hi Jon, That looks a very useful mandrel. Great video. Take care and hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Take care. Cheers, Huw
Thanks, you too!

@@prokraftuk 1000, erm, I’ll take two!! 😀 Ok I’ll try that, but if you get 999 more requests for a mandrel, put me at the top of your list!! 😂🎄
