You can never have enough mandrels! I still have a drawer full of 'specials' made years ago, as well as expanding varieties.
    Nice flea market score... excellent.

Nice! And I didn't know about using the "flat" side for thin piece holding.

Well Chuck, If you were playing poker in the dog world that would be the royal flush-a Golden and a Lab! Nicest dogs ever. Your turning brings up the set up for facing that washer and how you would do it? I bet in your collection you have another specialized tool?? Still snowing and in the upper twenties here. Spring ain't ready to sprung just yet. Got about two feet on the ground and looks to be more of the same for the next ten days at least. Give Howie a big huggy bear for me. Take care. Doug

First time to your channel. Definitely cool tools. A much better method for reducing the diameter of a washer, than the way I did the last one!
Still haven't found the first washer, it got launched, and may well be orbiting the Earth. LOL...
Thanks for sharing... and for the work putting together a vid.
I've got a milling head no one can ID, wanna take a shot at it?
I also got some mystery stuff in an auction lot of lathe parts. They look like big nails, with a blunt tip, except they are precision finished diameters, a few thou ⅝, ½, 7/16, & ⅜". The smaller the diameter, the shorter, they get, but there is, at least two of each diameter. The longest is 12-14", the smallest about 4".
Oh, they are hardened, as well, with a shiny sorta black finish. The heads look to be turned or ground, no sign of a weld. There's no wear on any, but some of the ½" ones, which there are four of.
There's a number engraved on the nail heads, on some of them, but they don't relate to the dimension. Got me scratching my head.

I bought a bunch of mandrels after watching Stan's video on then. Haven't used them yet.

Nice new tools. Do the mandrels center the part naturally or do you still have to indicate them in once the setup is on the lathe? Great to see two dogs playing and having fun.

    Question.
I'm not a machinist, but I have a friend who is, and he's trying to turn thin wall stainless steell tubes Due to the length of his mandrell he says limited # 6" but might have a few ideas for lthe longer tubes we need, c. 7"-12") .. I'm trying to learn about lathes, I want to surprise him with something that gives him the opportunity to turn the longer pieces.
Any ideas on what I could find for him?
    Thanks!
    Sincerely, Clint
