hi, I recently bought a sigma 100-400 l-mount for lumix s5 ii, it seems like a good lens. I wanted to ask you if you have tried the sigma 100-400 and therefore if you advise me to switch to the leica sl 100-400 because there is an important improvement in image quality, or I can also settle for it. Thank you!
Curious why you decided to not clean the lens what so ever before doing the product B-roll? Not even as much as wiping the dust from the front element?
This is scary that when I look at the photos on my device, I wasn’t sure whether I was actually inside the scene or looking at the screen of my device? Because the the details look so “real” to life, that’s the beauty of Leica optics, I wish this lens got a built in lens hood, that would make it a 10/10 lens. 🙏
Thanks for the review. I own the Sigma for less than half of the price. Of course I can't prove that the Leica doesn't offer anything more, except for the tripod collar, which you would have to buy seperately for the Sigma, and the Leica branding. But it's very clear to me that this lens has been at least designed by Sigma.
This reminds me of the micro four thirds lens PanaLeica 50-200mm f2.8-4.0. In terms of equivalence, that lens is only ⅓ to ⅔ of a stop slower, yet it's only 44% the weight (655g vs 1482g). Interesting.
Nice review! I wish that “they” would make a longer zoom more suitable for birds. I know that there is a 1.4 extender for this lens but it is not a good value at $875 US.
Some of the Leica lenses, especially Pana-leica, especially G lenses are superb, but some are mediocre. M43 100-400mm leica is mediocre, 200mm f2.8 is superb. This one is basically rebranded Sigma DG DN 100-400mm for twice as much money. Literally THE SAME optical formula. Luckily this is a good formula. It is even being made in Japan, whch means it is being made in Sigma's factory. How they managed to make it tah much heavier and having that much bigger fron filter diameter, is a mystery to me.
Dude….. who is supposed to be your audience here? Are you seriously explaining what 100-400 focal length means? Anyone looking at this product is going to know what it means.

Great review thank you! Definitely be looking to purchase this lens soon. Very detailed video!
Is this lens compatible with 1.4 or 2.0 Teleconverters ?? Can you replace the collar with a deeper one ??

Does it differ significantly from the VERY similar, but much cheaper, Sigma 100-400mm?
The MTF charts are the same.
The optical designs are the same, and sigma DN is natively ready for L mount.
@@kunlongwu4481but the type of glass may be better
As this the same as the mkii Panasonic Leica 100-400 ?

Don't drink the koolaid - it's just a rebranded Sigma 100-400mm, it's not 'magic Leica glass'... 🙄

The Sigma lens is a Leica design. The MTF charts are almost identical.
Actually it’s a Sigma design. Just the body is different. I have both and they’re identical in IQ but the Leica feels nicer.
@@bngr_bngr it is the other way around
@@janfrosty3392 nope.
Does this Sigma work on mft ?
Couldn’t you rotate the tripod foot to avoid catching your fingers in it?
Would this be a good lens to capture the ecplipse?

I think I will stick with my Olympus 40-150 F2.8. I can use a TC if needs be.

It is good value for a Leica lens…likely due to it being manufactured outside of Germany I imagine 🤷♂️
My lens starts at f4?
WAIT WHAT? SHOT WITH THE S5II??? HUH? I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE M43 LENS?
The new SIgma 500 5,6 is a better choice, and sharper. Although more expensive.
Lovely
Captive life photography. Nothing wild in this video. ;-)
Elephant in the room: this is a Sigma lens.
An excellent review. HOWEVER, this fellow speaks twice as fast as I can listen. Why the rush?
No he doesn’t. Go watch some other channels with scripts generated by chatgpt

This bloke talks so fast I miss some of what he says.

Likely it’s the mass of the glass which means having the same optical formulae doesn’t mean it’s the same image quality
slow down
Rebadged sigma?

@@janfrosty3392 But with Leica glass.
