Yes my foster mother would season her sorrel when she boiling cloves bay leaf cinnamon stick or leaves orange peel and that tastes so very nice and when she about to sweetening it she would add a bit of rum to it sometimes she don't
The problem when you do that is ginger can be quite harsh and you want it to simmer in the background and not be the main flavour. You don't want to end up with GINGER and sorrel
Wrong way Boil the ginger and pimento seed for a while When full boil Add sorrell Turn off heat Simmer for few days Strain Add sugar Red label wine Rum That's all Different folks do different things❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wrong ting dat,Neva boil anyting put all di ingredients together inna a good size glass jar,mek dem marinate/soak fi couple days inna cool dark area(try Yu best fi seal it)no,no,fi suga…add some suga cane r dates.
I agree boiling reduces the properties of the sorrel. One could boil ginger, premento for 10 minutes then add sorrel and lime/lemon cover for 24 hrs. Strain and sweeten with dates/Agave syrup if preferred.
That would he a great way too, i left to sorrel and ginger to soak overnight before straining. Im not to big on the taste of cloves. But i uabe heard of people putting cloves, orange etc in it as well
Ok it's still confusing you say 'let it come to the boil' do you then turn it down and let it simmer for a set time or do you turn off once it comes to the boil?
I think you might lose less sorrel if you pour it into a flour sifter/sieve/fine mesh strainer to remove the “pulp“ rather than scooping the sorrel petals and ginger out
Dried Sorrel as it is found I'm stores is too dirty. It seems that no amount of washing really helps and too much washing causes loss of flavor. What I do is I strain the final product through cheesecloth rather than do any washing.
Real Jamaicans don't boil their sorrel, boil ginger and pimento them put in the sorrel after you turn off the stove and let it stay for a day, Some folks two day's.
You dont boil sorrel you boil the ginger with clove and pimento and cinnamon stick then you put in the sorrel cover it let it step and you need more sorrel that was too weak. You also need to clean your ginger better
Boiling the sorrel is the best way.. Chinese lady in Canada 🇨🇦 told me to boil the sorrel and sweeten with sorrel syrup instead of sugar. It's the best
Thank you, there are many different ways to do it. Im not a fan of cinnamon so I didnt use it in my recipe but people are more than welcome to put the cinnamon in the pot and boil it together.
This is a bomb. Sorrel should not be boiled in any metal container. I would hope that people know this by now. I don’t even cook in aluminum containers. Bad for the health. Wow.
Well I'm sure you eat at fast food restaurants or any restaurant for that matter and you not dead yet. I made it in the metal pot and I'm still very much alive and well 😂😂. Maybe a hung over, but I'm very alive
Came across your channel and decided to watch. I have a few recommendations and concerns, which are as follows: 1. Have all the ingredients that you will be using at the counter, even if an ingredient will be the last addition (the rum) 2. Either show how to wash the sorrel or state how it should be washed. This will not only endear people who know nothing about the drink but also educate others who know about the drink but learn something from your processes and procedures. You may also want to educate foreigners, including people from the diaspora, that dried sorrel may be substitued if the fresh sorrel is unavailable and state the processes and procedures for preparing it are the same 3. Remember, that we learn differently it is not about a cookie cutter mentality to achieve that process. For example, although you did mention the quantities of sorrel and water, there are questions asking for this information. You may want to consider saying , after mentioning the ingredients, that there is no need to write it down because you will be putting the information [specify where it will be found].This will increase views 4. You mentioned that sorrel has benefits. What are they? You don't have to do a deep dive into what they are but mention that the scientific community has stated that they are... 5. The comment about you not washing/peeling the ginger...not sure if the washing occurred....is a natural and significant concern for some due to the corrupted food chain; for example, pesticides Outside of pesticides, a personal opinion noting that there were a few commrnts about no need for washing the ginger, that ginger like any produce that consumers buy is handled by so many people before it enters your home do why not washbit when, hopefully for those people, they wash other produces before comsuming them? 6. Cleanliness is next to godliness, which is regarding your tasting of the sorrel. Although, I applaud your effort initially doing the test safely in a container a subsequent test caused concern. Specifically, the second time the spoon that you used to transport the testing amount to the container came in contact with the container from which the initial tasting was done, and then you used the same spoon to stir the sorrel which later you said it was to be shared with your friends. I wonder how your friends should they see the video feel about the matter. Additionally, what judgments would other people make should you offer them anything that you made? 7. People are going to make criticisms or have opinions, and this is social media, so it comes with the territory. As a result, you have to adjust to it and think before you post. For example, a few people commented that what you called a hammer, the correct name is a meat tenderizer. For a majority of the comments, you either liked it or responded, "Thank u"; however, to one person, your response was, "You say tomato, I say tomatoe..."🤔. Remember, we are here to learn from each other!
The tomato, tomatoe comment was a joke you dont have to go through life being so serious, he didnt decide to add the rum to the juice til later as its not a ingredients thats always in. To each his own...people don't have to criticize
Thank you

Also orange peel, bay leaf, cloves, and cinnamon
Okay thank you
I was wondering what happened to the cinnamon & orange peel? I grew up drinking sorrel like that.
Yes my foster mother would season her sorrel when she boiling cloves bay leaf cinnamon stick or leaves orange peel and that tastes so very nice and when she about to sweetening it she would add a bit of rum to it sometimes she don't
Great recipe Andre, I do it differently and I can assure you mine is better. Great job though, next time add the Red Label wine.
Run is the right thing no red label or fruit wine.
Have anyone thought about blending their ginger then adding it to the sorrel?
Try it?
The problem when you do that is ginger can be quite harsh and you want it to simmer in the background and not be the main flavour. You don't want to end up with GINGER and sorrel
I did
Chef looks great, try next time with pineapple juice to sweetened instead of sugar great video
would love to try that sounds delicious
I use sorrel syrup to sweeten
Am going to try the pineapple 🍍 juice am making sorrel has we speak
Looking great was hoping you would have mentioned quantities like how much water needed for how much sorrel also how long should it boil for ect
I did mention how much water i used and how much sorrell i used.
The ingredients along with the measurements are in the description
2lbs Sorrel
8 Litre of water
1/2lb of Ginger
4 Cups of Sugar
2Tbsp All Spice/Pimento
Good job🎉
Hi, how much sorrel for that amount of water.ilill love to try your recipe. Sounds great
Everything is in the description
Looking really good 😊
Thank you.
Amazing video bro
Thanks appreciate it
❤Well done chef. And merry christmass to you and your family.
Thank you
Wrong way
Boil the ginger and pimento seed for a while
When full boil
Add sorrell
Turn off heat
Simmer for few days
Strain
Add sugar
Red label wine
Rum
That's all
Different folks do different things❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Talk your mind bro taste nice
It's true
Some people soke over night with clove ginger wicked then seethen let people put their own rum in bless up 🎉
That would he a great way too, i left to sorrel and ginger to soak overnight before straining. Im not to big on the taste of cloves. But i uabe heard of people putting cloves, orange etc in it as well
You don't say how long you have to boil the sorrel. Also the liquid sugar - does it come as a liquid or is it simply sugar dissolved in water?
Let it come to a full boil and the sugar i use comes in liquid and you can use brown sugar to sweeten
Ok it's still confusing you say 'let it come to the boil' do you then turn it down and let it simmer for a set time or do you turn off once it comes to the boil?
I turn it off
This is great cant wait to try how long should you boil sorrel for?
Just let the sorrel come to a boil
Not a hammer, my brother. It's a meat tenderize. Thank you for the recipe.
Sir you have to take off the brown skin on the ginger first and bowl it with cinnamon stick after you put the sorrel ok
Nope we Jamaican don't take off brown skin
Why...he washed it
Thank u
Thank you
👍👍😋
❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
If you live a foreign country you use what available try put some pineapple peel i wash my sorrel under the pipe through a big strainer
To each other it was looking good which I could have some 😅
Thank you
Stones ginger wine & i can't find jwray nephew pimento liqueur that made my Sorrell medicine
I think you might lose less sorrel if you pour it into a flour sifter/sieve/fine mesh strainer to remove the “pulp“ rather than scooping the sorrel petals and ginger out
I strained it in a cheese cloth to seperate the juice from the sorrel and ginger
Dried Sorrel as it is found I'm stores is too dirty. It seems that no amount of washing really helps and too much washing causes loss of flavor. What I do is I strain the final product through cheesecloth rather than do any washing.
I grate my ginger
Real Jamaicans don't boil their sorrel, boil ginger and pimento them put in the sorrel after you turn off the stove and let it stay for a day, Some folks two day's.
As it comes to a boll i lock stove off coveŕ and sweetem next day
What's the difference between boiling or simmering for hours vs not boiling?
This is true. Jamaicans "draw" sorrel overnight, they do not boil it.
Try it and you will taste the difference.

You dont boil sorrel you boil the ginger with clove and pimento and cinnamon stick then you put in the sorrel cover it let it step and you need more sorrel that was too weak. You also need to clean your ginger better

I LOVE SORREL BUT WHEN I MAKE IT'S WITH LOTS OF GINGER TH. CHEF H.
You definitely can add more ginger. Just goes based on how much you love ginger
Normally real Jamaican from de sixties don’t boil de sorrel. Yes boiling water with de ginger/ pimento ok. Rum ok u missing one ingredient 😊
Boiling the sorrel is the best way.. Chinese lady in Canada 🇨🇦 told me to boil the sorrel and sweeten with sorrel syrup instead of sugar. It's the best
First you have to take off the brown skin on the ginger then a stick of cinnamon then bowl after you put the sorrel in the pop and cover it
Thank you, there are many different ways to do it. Im not a fan of cinnamon so I didnt use it in my recipe but people are more than welcome to put the cinnamon in the pot and boil it together.
where is your cinnimon stick
I did not put it in my recipe. I'm not a fan of cinnamon but your more than welcome to add it
Too much rum that a water not sorrel it look weak
No it was perfect amount of rum and water ratio. Everything came together perfectly.
Yes older Jamaican boil the water first
Thank u
It can
That is not sorrel that is a bomb 😅
What about the kids?
You draw sorrel
Sorrel must not boil ,boil ingredients, then pour on the sorrel and cover .
Dates instead of table sugar…..
Can't use the dates with the sorrel inorder to get that authentic taste.
@@pamelabrown3923 so,process sugar will get a authentic taste……..😂😂😂😂😂😂,well I guess to each their own,I prefer “ORGANIC “
Alcohol is a very bad spirit so be careful
It’s not a hammer it’s a meat tenderizer
You say tomato i said tomatoe.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You don't boil the sorrel
Credentials --------u deed more prac--,,,,time 😂
This is a bomb. Sorrel should not be boiled in any metal container. I would hope that people know this by now. I don’t even cook in aluminum containers. Bad for the health. Wow.
Well no one dead yet 😂😂😂 Noted
Well I'm sure you eat at fast food restaurants or any restaurant for that matter and you not dead yet. I made it in the metal pot and I'm still very much alive and well 😂😂. Maybe a hung over, but I'm very alive
That pot is more than likely Stainless Steel 🤦🏽♀️🙄
Do not boil sorrel in that pot not safe
He'll No
Sorrel look weak
It's strong lot of rum
Not the rum, he means your potency of the sorrel itself. It's very pale.
It’s a dinner drink not a tonic 🤔
Looks weak. Missing cinnamon
Sorrel should not be stored in any plastic containers.
Sorrel should not be boiled in any metal container.
Thank u
Sorrel Really look weak fi true
Sorral don’t boil sorry not the right way
