      I have the 7th and 11th generation and I can say that this 6.8” display does wonders (not forgetting the warm light), but I agree with you, the older model still does a great job and I enjoy using both.

    I recently purchased a new kindle after using an original kindle1 since 2012, now with a failing battery. Well the new ones system is mainly different and just seems difficult for me to mess with and I was not happy, so I just bought a new battery for the old one and put it in after watching youtube videos. I'm much happier and now my grand daughter has a new kindle. Being in my mid seventies is no time to get a new kindle. Good video, thanks.

    Thank you! Your video encouraged me to buy refurbished kindle paperwhite 2 from aliexpress for only 30% of a price of the newest kindle paperwhite 5. I want it only for basic reading. No need for wifi, browser or any other function. I love that paperwhite 2 has backlight so I can read in dark at night.

    • @porttek0oficial
      @porttek0oficial 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @neclamat hey, yeah. The piece I bought for $60 is like new. No scratches, no damages whatsoever. The battery holds up very well too. It came charged up at 80% so I added a few books, charged it up and tested if for 2 days (~2 hours of use in total) and in those 2 days battery dropped down to 83% and I was using 75-100% brightness. So 1 hour of reading time = around 8% battery. I am very happy with my purchase. I love it! Kindle Paperwhite 2. It has 3.15GB of free space too, that is so many books.

    • @porttek0oficial
      @porttek0oficial 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@neclamat shipping was also kinda fast, it took exactly 10 days. Unfortunately the seller stopped selling the product to my country (IDK why), but I needed just this one anyways. Also this is a refurbished piece, and it looks like new. After I ordered this one (paperwhite 2), I checked second hand online shops in my country and one was selling Paperwhite 4 for ~$60 haha, so I could have had paperwhite 4 for roughly the same price. But I am very happy with this one, it has a great display, battery holds up well and it has built-in light (adjustable brightness) which is genius. I can read before I go to sleep in total darkness with just the lowest brightness on the kindle and it's so perfect.

    • @porttek0oficial
      @porttek0oficial 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@neclamat yeah, most books I have downloaded were in epub format, which is not supported in kindle. But it takes just a few seconds to convert PDF, epub or any other format to native kindle format AZW3 through online in browser convertors which let you usually convert 10 ebooks a day, but there are multiple free convertors that work perfectly for free so you can convert 30 books into kindle format without any issue.

    I purchased a new Kindle, Kindle touch basic 2022
    I purchased Kindle 4 basic in 2011, and right now things aren't going good with that one.
    The battery life for that one is 60% or less.
    The charging cable has green and yellow colours, recently there are black colours, this means that the wire had corrosion, if I continue to use the cable, the corrosion will get worse, one day it might cause fire.
    That Kindle also had indexing problem a few years ago.
    I felt that there's no point changing the battery, that would be a hard task because I live in New Zealand, I most likely have to do this myself if I want to change the battery, not to mention that the charging cable needs to be replaced, too, and Amazon may not be selling charging cables that supports Kindle 4 basic anymore.
    So that's basically why I purchased a new Kindle, which will last me a good amount of years.

    • @Desert371
      @Desert371 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isn’t it charged via micro usb? Then every cable should charge it.

    • @shaunzhang733
      @shaunzhang733 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Desert371 And why would I dare use other cable to charge it? It's not safe to do so, that Kindle was from 2011, remember.
      It's charging a lot slower than usual, the instruction manual says that charging should take less than three hours, but this is no longer the case now, it takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to charge it at this stage.

    • @Desert371
      @Desert371 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shaunzhang733 Because your original cable is damaged und you are corncerned of it catching fire.
      Of corse a cable can be replaced. Just use a propper one from a well known brand, not something cheap rom Ali express.
      Would be catastrophic if you have to throw away every device after its cable broke because you are not supposed to use an other cable. The power a device gets is not defined by the cable but by the device itself (except the cable is too weak).

    • @shaunzhang733
      @shaunzhang733 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Desert371 There is also indexing problem with that Kindle 4, too (this happened a few years ago but I didn't care at that point), a week ago, I let it generate a txt file by itself, the txt file took forever to index (which means that Kindle can't index that file at all), I bet it is a hardware issue that is causing the indexing problem.
      If Kindle can't index a txt file it generated by itself, how on earth will it be able to index other files properly?
      If a document cannot be indexed, there will be no way to do search in that document, and indexing kills battery, too.

    • @Desert371
      @Desert371 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shaunzhang733 Never said you shouldn‘t upgrade. The new devices are very good!
      Indexing problems can even happen on new kindles. Specially when you load a lot of sideloaded books at once on the device.
      But never heared of a kindle creating it‘s own .txt file. Downloaded books from Amazon already have Amazons format, sideloaded books are brought into propper format by the user. You can also send a .pdf file via mail on the kindle. When you put „convert“ in the subject, it gets converted into amazons format so it behaves like an e-book and not a static .pdf anymore. This conversion takes place on amazons server.

    Great review. To the point. Currently pondering upgrading my Paperwhite 1 (gen 5) from 2012 --> Kindle basic 6" 2022 vs Paperwhite 11th gen, or just persisting with the old one until it carks it.
    Only real advantage to a latest generation basic would be dark mode, USB-C, and 16GB storage instead of 2GB. The newest Paperwhite only offers 32GB, warm & more even lighting, and waterproofing, beyond that, but it bigger & heavier (definite downside for me).
    Think I might buy a new case for ye olde 2012 Paperwhite for now, and ponder a new 6" basic replacement if the archaeologically significant one dies. 🙂

      I have the '22 Basic and have zero desire for the newest paperwhite. The only thing I'd consider getting it for is the warm light if my headaches get worse (not kindle caused but a bitch nonetheless), and maybe the water resistance (just so it could come to the pool). But the size and weight is a decided drawback to me. I got my mom a PW3 for her birthday and have putted around on it and it's not a significant difference to the Basic. I say use yours til it dies (not that you asked my input), then get the Basic, it's a really great product and killed any desire for me to "upgrade".

      @SJisReading 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @chriscole4559 I never need the dark mode (my husband isn't allergic like your wife), but it sounds like it might be the move for you. The storage capacity is HUGE, I know I'm never going to use all that, and thus won't need to upgrade for a very, very long time. Plus it's insanely portable. Only downside (to me) is the smaller bezels. I think the older models are easier to hold, despite not looking as sleek.
