    Nice review John. Glad to see that the EGO system has enough power to work the landscape blade, and the added benefit is that it's really quiet. No more messing with fuel mix, and having to worry about waking everyone up if you want to get the lines crisp on the lawn in the early morning.

    After seeing this video I wanted to try this product for myself. I ordered one from R&R and attached it to my troy-bilt trimmer. I love it like crazy. Although it adds some weight to the tool, it does provide a really good cut. I use it around the farm to trim between trees, up next to fences, and around building. I appreciate the fact that it doesn't get tangled around obstacles or throw debris around the yard.

    Fantastic video John. One suggestion, rather than use your EGO trimmer shaft for this, you could get the EGO extension shaft (meant for the pole saw), remove the quick connect and add the landscape blade to it instead. That shaft is less than $50 bucks and you'd have a new attachment at your ready. Here's a link to it > www.rcpw.com/equipment/ego-power-heads-and-attachments/EP7500.html
    You could also buy multiple shafts to create more attachments for your power head, using the same reducer coupling (if you can find those outside of the idech kit). Someone may sell a 25mm shaft with a 7 spline drive for less than $50 but I haven't found it.

    • @myhandymanscott
      @myhandymanscott 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It appears to be a single bolt at the bottom of the quick connect that holds it in place. The only question I have is that it looks a bit shorter (31 inches) than the trimmer shaft, so that may make it impractical as the shaft is already not as long as I'd like. Cool thing is they have a carbon fiber version available in the UK > www.powrtools.co.uk/product/ego-power-ep7501-extension-pole/

    • @realJohnWare
      @realJohnWare  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has been a while, but I think I just tightened the set screw into the shaft. You could also mark and drill a new hole in the outer shaft if it made you more comfortable.

  • @Brettsgrasscapades
    @Brettsgrasscapades 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Almost a year later you still reccomend this setup? I just bought the rotary scissors and am now looking for something to mate it to. I have a similar sized yard so I was leaning toward the ego products.

    • @Brettsgrasscapades
      @Brettsgrasscapades 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@realJohnWare perfect. I got the rotary scissors in this morning and will go get a ego system tomorrow. I was really hoping I could use the dewalt string trimmer but upon closer inspection it doesn't actually have a shaft its motor is contained in the head of the string trimmer. So ego it is, I've loved the battery equipment for my size of lawn.

  • @taz_7766
    @taz_7766 ปีที่แล้ว

    On my ego multi tool, the rotary scissors only fit 90 degrees out from the battery / control orientation as the rotary scissors Allen bolt is on the side whereas the ego trimmer head has the Allen bolt on top
    Did you need to adjust anything to get the orientation correct?

    • @realJohnWare
      @realJohnWare  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I recall (it has been a while) the allen screw just works like a set screw. I would line the PRS head up in the proper orientation and just tighten the screw against the shaft. You could also mark the location and drill a new hole in the outer shaft for the set screw to engage.

    • @jaygonzalez3555
      @jaygonzalez3555 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Ware I dont know if you'll care at all, but I'll share in case you might.
      I was going to buy the same trimmer/edger kit you bought, but I wasn't expecting the $460 price tag. But It was the 2.5Ah battery you mentioned in your video that helped me save a few bucks.
      I bought the newest Ego carbon fiber trimmer with the 2.5Ah battery for $230 at HD. Like you, I prefer an edger for edging, so I bought the same edger you have without the line trimmer attachment and without the battery for $130 at HD. I only have 5300 sq ft yard, so I'm fine with the 2.5 battery. Total for both was just under $350 with tax after a discount coupon they'd sent me.
      Maybe someone will hit you up asking for info like I did and maybe this will help.
      Thanks.

    • @jaygonzalez3555
      @jaygonzalez3555 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@realJohnWare It would've been cool to get the 5Ah, but like you mentioned in your video, you got to use your 2.5Ah for your trimming, edging, and blowing on one charge. Again, thanks for the video and review. Helped simplify my shopping process.

    • @realJohnWare
      @realJohnWare  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ST1504 doesn’t look like a rear motor model to me. If so, there is no driveshaft to adapt the PRS to. You need a “rear motor” or Quick Attach powerhead.

    John will this work on my Kobalt 80-volt Max 16-in Straight Cordless String Trimmer with Attachment Capable?

    • @realJohnWare
      @realJohnWare  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it has a driveshaft that matches up with one of the included adapters it should work. I am unfamiliar with that trimmer, but you could pull the head off and use this as a guide: thelawnforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=23876#p23876

    • @realJohnWare
      @realJohnWare  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Note that some electric trimmers do not have a driveshaft - the electric motor is on the trimmer head itself. The PRS head cannot be adapted to those. But if your model uses different attachments, odds are it has a driveshaft.

      Got it installed and working. Was a pain to get it alligned. How loud is yours? I tried it out and it seems to be very loud when its on.

      I compared it to carbon finger string trimmer and its much louder but I'm returning that one as I keep bumping into things while trimming. So far I ended up scratching my fence, making holes in the downspouts. Rotary scissors are much better to control :)
      I tried following your video to install it and i had to go the other way. I had to install the 7mm shaft adapter into the scissors and then insert the shaft into that. Otherwise it wouldn't go all the way in and power head would not click in. Took a bit of work but now its working correctly (it spins :) )

    Is there a brush cutter attachment for my Ego 56 volt cordless line trimmer? I’ve been told there isn’t?
