I really don’t know how you guys don’t have 10 million subscribers by now. You guys easily have the best quality videos, best locations, and best presenters that make the viewer feel like they are there. Keep it up!
I really love the Japan by Food series. It’s informative and at the same time a feast for the eyes and the tongue. Can’t wait to go back to Japan armed with knowledge and appetite🥰
I've only been able to experience real wasabi a few times in Japan, most notably in a sushiya in Shibuya. Amazingly floral and not spicy at all. Absolutely delicious. Thanks, Shizuka!
I really don't think that wasabi is an amazing food but I admit that sometimes is interesting and strangely refreshing... Shizuka looks like a penguin in rubber boots and rain jacket and that's not depreciative, penguins are very cute and fluffy! 🐧🐧🐧🐧😄😄
Hi Shizuka. Another great video about one of my fave condiments. I love the remote areas of Japan that you venture off to and bring amazing insights to the area. Thank you so much!
@Japan by Food Love all the places that you go to. Hoping you'll take us to where those Japan snack boxes like Bokksu are put together. I think that would be fun!
Great video. Please do a Japanese cheese monger video. I'm curious to know how the Japanese do cheese as they seem to excel at everything they put their hand to. Plus Shizuka loves cheese!
In both cases, it will be available. You can book it right here: www.byfood.com/experiences/wasabi-kaiseki-meal-and-1-night-stay-at-a-shizuoka-onsen-628
Oh i see! I've never know how wasabi was grown, thank you so much for letting us know 💖 You look Incredible and wonderful as always Shizuka-san ☺️ How cute you looked with that raincoat and those rubber boots. That wasabi hotpot looks so yummy 😮. Really enjoyed the video, thank you again for all your efforts and take care everyone 🙏🏻❤️ God bless.
To be very clear to those who are curious- real wasabi isn't in the same galaxy as fake wasabi, or horseradish (which is the cheap crap you get in bog standard sushi restaurants). Real wasabi is much more mild (and creamy as Shizuka said), and really is a special, unique taste.
I knew wasabi is very finicky to cultivate, so I really like that JBF has shed light on it for others to know! Sadly true wasabi in North America is hard to find for home cooking without exorbitant pricing. I never knew about the wasabi sake drink! Seems like a life hack lmao! I never thought it was a thing just like you did Shizzy haha
Great video! I really want to experience a wasabi farm, I love that they are designed with spring water descending down the stepped areas. That hotel and restaurant were also very beautiful. What a nice area!
You haven’t lived until you have had わさびの葉の天ぷら - like spicy potato chips. Actually grown in a lot of places, but not in these ancient terraces in creeks - that is special - there are artificial covered terraces in place north like Aomori-ken. Curiously if you look at the leaves and the kanji it is a Malvaceae, real reason it considered a Brassicaceae is 1) it has four petaled flowers and 2) because it basically doesn’t grow natively outside Japan and tastes like Horseradish and the botanists only had dried out bits. FYI: Not only clean mineral water BUT ALSO needs to be moving/oxygenated water or else the ammonia rots the plant.
I have to say, after experiencing the difference between freshly ground wasabi and the toxic paste that you get at your local shopping centre grade sushi joint, the fresh stuff beats it every day of the week, I was actually able to eat it on its on without feeling like I’d been assaulted in the sinuses……..🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for the feedback!
I spent a lot of vacation time on the Izu Peninsula and the wasabi from that region changed my feelings on sushi. Fresh hon wasabi is outstanding!
Yes, we agree!
Wasabi is not my favorite ingredient but that cocktail looks good and tempting.
It was!
love your content, hope others will find this more as japan opens up and more tourists come in! :D
You're so kind! We hope so too
I never realized you can use wasabi in sake! Thank you for the informative video about real wasabi Shizuka. Your videos are always fun to watch!

That place is seriously stunning!
Couldn't agree more!

Great suggestion!
Is the wasabi food in the video available at that restaurant or is it available to book as an experience ?
In both cases, it will be available. You can book it right here: www.byfood.com/experiences/wasabi-kaiseki-meal-and-1-night-stay-at-a-shizuoka-onsen-628
Love your shows, long time subscriber

You knew exactly what you were doing with that thumbnail.
Get your head out of the gutter.

Thanks for the support!
I never had real wasabi like the real one in the video.
It is so different from the imitation and much more enjoyable!

I’ve had it a few times and you are absolutely correct, it’s almost herbal.
I knew wasabi is very finicky to cultivate, so I really like that JBF has shed light on it for others to know! Glad we could help!

Great video! I really want to experience a wasabi farm, I love that they are designed with spring water descending down the stepped areas. That hotel and restaurant were also very beautiful. What a nice area!

Thank you! Cheers!
I really need to try fresh wasabi!
Shizuka in Shizuoka. I’m sure there’s wordplay there somewhere…😅
Sure haha!
I wonder if I've ever tasted real wasabi 🤣
Shizukaaaaaaa
I don't use packet wasabi anymore when I eat sashimi, seeing so many chemicals mixed in. But so hard to find real wasabi here..
True, it might be a bit difficult to find fresh wasabi abroad TT

We absolutely love the wasabi leaf tempura! Another great one is Shiso leaf tempura:)
@@JapanbyFood Ooh that is a good idea❣️But I have to admit, Shiso is one flavor I have a hard time with....
that's real wasabi. it takes 15 months to 2 years to grow.
💚💚💚
Thank you!
Is there a way I can get the contact number of the Wasabi farm? I would love to visit as well!
Check out our link!
I am from Bangladesh and do you know the name of RAFSAN ?? HE is a popular youtuber in bangladesh......
Kind of odd without your tag line introduction, "Shizuka Anderson".
We will bring it back soon!:D
I have to say, after experiencing the difference between freshly ground wasabi and the toxic paste that you get at your local shopping centre grade sushi joint, the fresh stuff beats it every day of the week, I was actually able to eat it on its on without feeling like I’d been assaulted in the sinuses……..🤣🤣🤣🤣
Exactly! Fresh high quality wasabi will never burn!
We all know real Wasabi grows in a tube at the supermarket.
"This is the part I'm *used to* seeing at _fancy_ Sushi restaurants."... way to humble brag - occupational hazard, eh?
It is a tough job, what can we say...
No no, wasabi metabolism has nothing to do with hangovers. My goodness. Can we present more factual information?
no hangover? BRB trying wasabi in sake 😅
PS I love Shizuka in Shizuoka 😍
Haha, thanks for the comment!
