This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Sir, Wacken is a very small town in North Germany (less than 2000 inhabitants) and they raise and tent Cattle, so their symbol is the bull´s head. once a year Wacken grows by about 80,000 people from all over the world, visiting one of the biggest heavy metal festival in the world. I am from the US and Nightwish, along with Floor Jansen, is my most favorite artists in the entire world but there is -0- airplay in the states - Here, the airwaves are so overly run with cute little 2 minute commercial dittys full of auto tune made for the clubbers and the rappers - I have been listening to music from Europe for the past 30 years and stay away from the crap in the US
Sir, most info you get from Gabriel, he is the best source for Nightwish. The singer, For Jansen, studied Rockmusic and clasic singing at the conservatory in the Netherlands. Since the beginning of the 21st century she is also a professional vocal coach, giving master classes. She also is a all around good human being. Elmar.
After a 5 day visit to my home I drove my cousin and her family back to the airport this morning, they are from California and the husband is a classical musician and performs for a well known classical symphony orchestra in that state. Naturally as a dedicated Nightwish fan I couldn’t do that long without listening to Nightwish so on day 3, I played the album Human nature. He heard the music and was very keen on wanting to know who they were. So I played him some of the older stuff too, naturally with Floor Jansen as I’m Dutch and in the Netherlands and very proud of my fellow country woman. He loved their music and made a note to look into them. I think I got him hooked!

The composer of the band is the keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen, he is one of the best in the world. They have a symphony orchestra and choir behind them on tape, music like you never heard before. Floor Jansen (the singer) did some Disney covers in her barn during COVID lockdown. She did it for her daughter, you can find it on youtube. She is widely (and not only in the metal scene) as one of the best female vocalists in the world. She can sing opera, musical, growling death metal, rock, pop, etc. Just search her name and you will eventually get everything she does. She also will release her first solo album next month, but she stated she will remain with Nightwish too.
Hey Travis, I do not know how to officially sign up to the Nightwish Army but I like to think of myself as a member. This band is sooo addicting because they are soooo good! I am 68years old and so often their songs (new and old) reduce me to tears. (Regardless of how often I hear them!) I am of the opinion that Nightwish is the band that I have waited my entire musical listening life waiting for...but I didn't know it until I first heard of them through a Ghost Love Score reaction video. Nightwish Trench Division N.Z. reporting in. Welcome good sir to the world of Nightwish. Floor Jansen is Dutch last name pronounced ( Yansen ) Is a 6.1 foot tall Valkyrie Queen. Started in a band called After forever aged 16, later Revamp, side project Northward and currently Nightwish. Floor has performed with many groups like Epica, Ayreon, to name a few and stared on the t.v. show the Beste Zangers ( Best Singers ) Floor has done many cover songs and made them her own this includes one from the band Heart that song was Alone. When floor first did a cover for that song it was when she was in After forever and Anne Wilson herself commented thanking her. Floor made another more recent cover at her home studio hightly recommended. Floor has also a solo album being made and has a few music videos you could watch on You Tube.

Funny enough, during lockdowns, Floor Jansen (the vocalist & pronounced like Yahn-sen) did covers on her YT channel! Nightwish will always surprise you; they have many sounds. No two song are alike, though all have that unmistakable element you recognize as Nightwish! The band does also contribute to the writing and composition and they record with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (if im not mistaken) for all of the orchestral parts to their music. Northern New England Division reporting in and welcome to the wonderful world of Symphonic Metal. The glorious mash up of symphonic composition, orchestral instruments and heavy metal. Nightwish is one of the premier groups within this genre and Floor Jansen is one of the most versatile and amazing singers. She is also a very down to earth person and very sweet. During the pandemic she got bored stuck at home so she and her husband, drummer of Swedish power metal band Sabaton (which you should checkout), recorded a number of covers and released them on her YT channel. One of her first was a cover of Let it Go from Frozen for her daughter Freja and also a cover of Alone by Heart, so spot on about the Ann Wilson vibes. Let me encourage you to keep exploring beyond our US borders. There is a whole world of great music out there that we never get to hear unless we end run the US music industry. For aother band similar to Nightwish checkout Epica. For a first listen I recommend Unleashed live from their Retrospect concert with a live orchestra and choir on stage.

Your on point with the movements for me. I always think of Queen when listening to Nightwish. Not an easy feat. If you were looking for a female Freddie Mercury, you got it. But it takes a great band to back you up.
It's always great to see someone enjoying their first introduction to Nightwish. The lady slaying this song is Floor Jansen and though it might sound strange.. you have not seen half of what she is capable of, you just scratched the surface with this song. Nightwish plays symphonic metal and you will find all their songs very different. They don't do repeat, every song is different and they also don't do fillers, every song is a killer. This was song 13 of the Wacken concert that introduced Floor to the European crowd after she took over from the old singer just 10 months before. The whole concert is this quality, it's arguably one of the best concerts ever recorded. Enjoy you journey into their catalogue, we'll be right there with you. And whatever you do, do a live version, they are real musicians, no pitch correction or autotune, they are better live than in the studio🤘

Nice that you found the best band there is. The keyboard player - Tuomas Holopainen - is a genius music/lyric writer and therefore called as Metal Mozart....and they all are top class what they do. They can do all the genres if they want from Opera to Black metal. In 1996 they changed the music world already....taking this symphonic metal concept up.

To give you an idea of the dedication of this fanbase, I am flying 23hrs from Sydney to Vienna in June to see Nightwish live at a summer festival, and I won't be the only one. Hot tip, only do live versions for Nightwish, and shows from 2012 and later, as their 3rd and current singer, the goddess Floor Jansen, has been with them since then, and she is the best.
Hey Travis - always enjoy watching first time listening to this song - one of the best live performances I've heard that's on video. GLS was #13 of 15 of the set. From the same venue, Ever Dream is another standout. I don't consider myself a Nightwish fan like the majority of the folks you'll find here (Gabriel Bardac is a great guide.) I'm really a fan of Floor's and her solo projects, which, after seeing her solo performances from her appearance on the Dutch tv show Beste' Zangers solidified my fandom of Floor and introduced me to Nightwish. So, to promote Floor I'm going to take the liberty of posting a selected playlist of live performances that I consider the most enjoyable for me from her catalog of solo projects. Me finding Tom MacDonald and Nightwish were some of the only good things to come out of the covid shut-downs. With nothing to do and no where to go to - I found myself looking for entertaining and turned to TH-cam and stumbled on the reaction channel sub-culture that is now so ubiquitous. I found artists and songs I had never thought to in to - and fell in love with Nightwish immediately upon checking them out on someone's reaction channel, and same experience w/ T Mac. I am so thrilled that you took the initiative to expand your horizons and check them out.

I can see some confusion here. Let me clear things up a little bit. As everyone should know by now, the Dutch people, also known as Danish, live in the country of Deutschmark located right between the Neverlands and Holland. Their capital city is called Amstelhavn (or Købendam but this is an old-fashioned name, only reserved for special occasions). They live under the sea level, and through the process of natural selection, which has eliminated everyone who was too short to breathe, they've become the tallest people in the world. They speak Danutch which is universally considered to be THE most beautiful sounding language ever, especially the northern varieties with the more prominent GGG sound. I do, however, disagree with it, finding the dialect the Goddess herself speaks more beautiful. Some people call it Brabants, but the correct linguistic term is, of course, Floorian.

There is a guy named YANNIS PAPADOPOULOS who does a cover of this song that you believe. hes a singer in a metal band over in Europe somewhere but his cover of this will blow you away. of course no one can top Floors voice but its a cover worth checking out. you will be glad you did. figured id throw that out there.

And the NW Army is a special group of dedicated fans not only of NW but they care about each other. NW has suffered a lot of ups and downs in their excistence and Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardplayer, founder of the band and the one who writes most of their music, has written some songs with themses that are heavy e.g. suicide. He became very depressed after they fired their first singer Tarja (Tarrr-ya) as he took the brunt of all the nasty reactions. He wrote a very moving song about it "Poet and the Pedulum" and in the comments a lot of people wrote they suffered from depression and thoughts of suicide and then the NW Army stepped up and tried ti help them with understanding and helpful comments. How wonderful is that! And two weeks ago Floor released a new single "Invincilble", from her first solo album Paragon which is coming out in March, and it's about PTSD. And she knows what she is taling about! She herself sufferd from a severe burnout in 2011/2012 and in October last year (while still touring in South America) she announced that she had breast cancer and she asked all women to get themselves tested. She had a tumor surgery that went very well and 3 weeks later she was touring again with NW in Europe. It was a very heavy period for her but she did it and the reactions on YT exploded everytime with well whishes. And it is sooo heartwarming to be part of this great community!! And now you're becoming part of it as well haha. We all guide you through NW's Wonderland! Have a really good time!

About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Sir, Wacken is a very small town in North Germany (less than 2000 inhabitants) and they raise and tent Cattle, so their symbol is the bull´s head. once a year Wacken grows by about 80,000 people from all over the world, visiting one of the biggest heavy metal festival in the world. I am from the US and Nightwish, along with Floor Jansen, is my most favorite artists in the entire world but there is -0- airplay in the states - Here, the airwaves are so overly run with cute little 2 minute commercial dittys full of auto tune made for the clubbers and the rappers - I have been listening to music from Europe for the past 30 years and stay away from the crap in the US
Sir, most info you get from Gabriel, he is the best source for Nightwish. The singer, For Jansen, studied Rockmusic and clasic singing at the conservatory in the Netherlands. Since the beginning of the 21st century she is also a professional vocal coach, giving master classes. She also is a all around good human being.

After a 5 day visit to my home I drove my cousin and her family back to the airport this morning, they are from California and the husband is a classical musician and performs for a well known classical symphony orchestra in that state. Naturally as a dedicated Nightwish fan I couldn’t do that long without listening to Nightwish so on day 3, I played the album Human nature. He heard the music and was very keen on wanting to know who they were. So I played him some of the older stuff too, naturally with Floor Jansen as I’m Dutch and in the Netherlands and very proud of my fellow country woman. He loved their music and made a note to look into them. I think I got him hooked!

The composer of the band is the keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen, he is one of the best in the world. They have a symphony orchestra and choir behind them on tape, music like you never heard before. Floor Jansen (the singer) did some Disney covers in her barn during COVID lockdown. She did it for her daughter, you can find it on youtube. She is widely (and not only in the metal scene) as one of the best female vocalists in the world. She can sing opera, musical, growling death metal, rock, pop, etc. Just search her name and you will eventually get everything she does. She also will release her first solo album next month, but she stated she will remain with Nightwish too.

This band is sooo addicting because they are soooo good! I am 68years old and so often their songs (new and old) reduce me to tears. (Regardless of how often I hear them!)

Nightwish Trench Division N.Z. reporting in. Welcome good sir to the world of Nightwish. Floor Jansen is Dutch last name pronounced ( Yansen ) Is a 6.1 foot tall Valkyrie Queen. Started in a band called After forever aged 16, later Revamp, side project Northward and currently Nightwish. Floor has performed with many groups like Epica, Ayreon, to name a few and stared on the t.v. show the Beste Zangers ( Best Singers ) Floor has done many cover songs and made them her own this includes one from the band Heart that song was Alone. When floor first did a cover for that song it was when she was in After forever and Anne Wilson herself commented thanking her. Floor made another more recent cover at her home studio hightly recommended. Floor has also a solo album being made and has a few music videos you could watch on You Tube.

Nightwish will always surprise you; they have many sounds. No two song are alike, though all have that unmistakable element you recognize as Nightwish! Tuomas (Too - ah - mus) is the keyboardist, composer, and writer. The band does also contribute to the writing and composition and they record with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (if im not mistaken) for all of the orchestral parts to their music. You will enjoy this rabbit hole so I hope you continue down! They have thought provoking and deeply poetic lyrics. There is not much screaming or growling with this band, like with a lot of metal. I think you will enjoy their music and delving into the messages in all of their songs! Some are just based on fantasy - like mythology. Nightwish is one of the premier groups within this genre and Floor Jansen is one of the most versatile and amazing singers. She is also a very down to earth person and very sweet. During the pandemic she got bored stuck at home so she and her husband, drummer of Swedish power metal band Sabaton (which you should checkout), recorded a number of covers and released them on her YT channel. One of her first was a cover of Let it Go from Frozen for her daughter Freja and also a cover of Alone by Heart, so spot on about the Ann Wilson vibes. Let me encourage you to keep exploring beyond our US borders. There is a whole world of great music out there that we never get to hear unless we end run the US music industry. For aother band similar to Nightwish checkout Epica. For a first listen I recommend Unleashed live from their Retrospect concert with a live orchestra and choir on stage.

Your on point with the movements for me. I always think of Queen when listening to Nightwish. Not an easy feat. If you were looking for a female Freddie Mercury, you got it. But it takes a great band to back you up.

It's always great to see someone enjoying their first introduction to Nightwish. The lady slaying this song is Floor Jansen and though it might sound strange.. you have not seen half of what she is capable of, you just scratched the surface with this song. Nightwish plays symphonic metal and you will find all their songs very different. They don't do repeat, every song is different and they also don't do fillers, every song is a killer. This was song 13 of the Wacken concert that introduced Floor to the European crowd after she took over from the old singer just 10 months before. The whole concert is this quality, it's arguably one of the best concerts ever recorded. Enjoy you journey into their catalogue, we'll be right there with you. And whatever you do, do a live version, they are real musicians, no pitch correction or autotune, they are better live than in the studio🤘

Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the set list in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

Hey Travis - always enjoy watching first time listening to this song - one of the best live performances I've heard that's on video. GLS was #13 of 15 of the set. From the same venue, Ever Dream is another standout. I don't consider myself a Nightwish fan like the majority of the folks you'll find here (Gabriel Bardac is a great guide.) I'm really a fan of Floor's and her solo projects, which, after seeing her solo performances from her appearance on the Dutch tv show Beste' Zangers solidified my fandom of Floor and introduced me to Nightwish. Me finding Tom MacDonald and Nightwish were some of the only good things to come out of the covid shut-downs. With nothing to do and no where to go to - I found myself looking for entertaining and turned to TH-cam and stumbled on the reaction channel sub-culture that is now so ubiquitous.
I found artists and songs I had never thought to in to - and fell in love with Nightwish immediately upon checking them out on someone's reaction channel, and same experience w/ T Mac.
I am so thrilled that you took the initiative to expand your horizons and check them out.

I can see some confusion here. Let me clear things up a little bit.
As everyone should know by now, the Dutch people, also known as Danish, live in the country of Deutschmark located right between the Neverlands and Holland. Their capital city is called Amstelhavn (or Købendam but this is an old-fashioned name, only reserved for special occasions). They live under the sea level, and through the process of natural selection, which has eliminated everyone who was too short to breathe, they've become the tallest people in the world. They speak Danutch which is universally considered to be THE most beautiful sounding language ever, especially the northern varieties with the more prominent GGG sound. I do, however, disagree with it, finding the dialect the Goddess herself speaks more beautiful. Some people call it Brabants, but the correct linguistic term is, of course, Floorian.

Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. There is a guy named YANNIS PAPADOPOULOS who does a cover of this song that you believe. hes a singer in a metal band over in Europe somewhere but his cover of this will blow you away. of course no one can top Floors voice but its a cover worth checking out. you will be glad you did. figured id throw that out there.

It always amazes me how a song from 2004 and given entirely new breath in a concert in 2013 is STILL blowing people away like this! And this, someone new to Nightwish enjoys their first Floorgasm. :)

Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.

And the NW Army is a special group of dedicated fans not only of NW but they care about each other. NW has suffered a lot of ups and downs in their excistence and Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardplayer, founder of the band and the one who writes most of their music, has written some songs with themses that are heavy e.g. suicide. He became very depressed after they fired their first singer Tarja (Tarrr-ya) as he took the brunt of all the nasty reactions. He wrote a very moving song about it "Poet and the Pedulum" and in the comments a lot of people wrote they suffered from depression and thoughts of suicide and then the NW Army stepped up and tried ti help them with understanding and helpful comments. How wonderful is that!
And two weeks ago Floor released a new single "Invincilble", from her first solo album Paragon which is coming out in March, and it's about PTSD. And she knows what she is taling about! She herself sufferd from a severe burnout in 2011/2012 and in October last year (while still touring in South America) she announced that she had breast cancer and she asked all women to get themselves tested. She had a tumor surgery that went very well and 3 weeks later she was touring again with NW in Europe. It was a very heavy period for her but she did it and the reactions on YT exploded everytime with well whishes. And it is sooo heartwarming to be part of this great community!!
