So, I went out and did exactly that. I must admit though, the storm was more than I bargained for lol, but a massive test for the $18 Kmart Anko Dome tent! I hope you enjoy my WILD experience and review…⛺️💦💨😀

    Love your videos thanks :). Just a note on this tent, I too decided to test the same kmart tent, last year. I took it for 3 days on Stewart Island (having used it several places before). I discovered that, my tent was always full of sandflies...and I didn't give it much thought, until I carefully watched one morning. The insect screen is slightly larger, made for Australia. The sandflies fit perfectly through the mesh! Grrrr! Otherwise, for $18 pretty good! :). Thanks again.

      Oh wow! Thanks for letting me know. Now that you mention it, I did notice the mess was slightly wider than normal. Hmmm that’s not good for sandfly prone areas.

    I got the same tent for $14 at Kmart here in Perth, & it's great for the beach! It also has a UV protection rating of 95+! I'm 5' 8" tall, so there was enough space for ME!

    Love this. Its amazing how much snobbery and silly stuff goes on about tents. The vast majority of camping is summer fair weather camping and a cheap dome tent can handle this with aplomb. If you want it to be stronger and more water proof then you can can seam seal and spray it, swap the poles for alu and stitch stronger guying points. I mean why does everyone have to have a super expensive tent? LONG LIVE the humble dome tent.

      Yes you’re right! I was half expecting it to fold up on me during the storm, but no it didn’t. All the main tent walls are seam sealed and the floor seems pretty waterproof too. Incredible for $18. ⛺️👍🏼

    Mum got the 4 persons dome tent from Coles. It's huge and we set it up but a few hrs later she wants it unpacked because a servere storm is coming and she's scared it's going to rip the tent. I'm so annoyed but this vid helps.

    • @wildmountainman1
      @wildmountainman1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol! That’s funny. I wasn’t far from a hut as I also didn’t know exactly how well this tent would survive in the short storm. Pleasantly surprised though. Stay safe. ⛺️👍🏼

    Great honest review. I guess if you’re on a budget you could modify this tent with a few guy ropes to beef it up. For $18 it’s worth a look if you want to try camping.

    • @wildmountainman1
      @wildmountainman1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wildmountainman1 Anything that would help me set up my tramping kit. For example, when I was looking for a mattress it was really hard to know what the different costs were and the pros and cons of each such as foam, inflatable, self inflating of both full and half. I was looking for videos like this to get a local perspective on gear but I would love to see how cheap head torches compare with the good ones. I recently got some dry bags from Kmart and they are not too bad, heavier but much cheaper.
      I cant wait to see your next video :)

      Yes, I was semi-expecting it to collapse, that’s why I didn’t unpack my gear until after the storm. For $18 though, it’s great value for money.

    • @wildmountainman1
      @wildmountainman1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it was a wild storm. It didn’t last long, but was hair raising for my first time in a $18 tent. And no, it didn’t come with guy lines as I wanted to test it as is straight out of the box. Guy lines would certainly help though. Lol.

    • @wildmountainman1
      @wildmountainman1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. In strong wind and rain, the top vent was fine however since wind was coming from the rear, the back vent did leak a bit. All round though, a good tent in summer type conditions.
