      Plus Super Shiftronic transmission mechanism just like dual clutch trans, two sets of gear 1,3,5 and 2,4 are changed between two of it using clutch. Its more reliable than automatics as auto have each clutch for each gears and using planetary gear

    Horses for courses, all depends what you actually want either way the evo x is a solid car . I own the sst and it's way faster gear change than manual but I do prefer the manual gearbox just my preference . When buying car the manual I paid deposit on fell through and no other clean manual around to buy so went for a clean stock sst . Still a great drive

    When I bought my Evo in 2008, Mitsubishi had talked up the SST so much, a lot of people didn't realize a 5-speed was standard. The SST didn't even get to the USA until 4 or 5 months after I bought my car.
    About 11 years ago some magazine did a comparison test of a 5-speed and an "SST" Evo and, whether Mitsubishi liked it or not, they tested them on a dynamometer. They found that the SST car had a lot more power. An advantage of 5% or so. Mitsubishi was sending the press *ringers*, to try and sell the more expensive model. (One of the oldest automotive marketing tricks)
    And it didn't work. The more I read about the SST, the more I was happy with my manual car.
    The SST was quirky, and got a reputation for being unreliable. The oil pump was poorly lubricated, causing jerkiness. The shift fork magnets and shift sensors would fail, so the car wouldn’t shift. If it broke, Mitsubishi mechanics couldn't fix it: They had to install a new one and send the broken one to Getrag for repair.
    In the long run, most Evo X buyers got the 5-speed.

      @ianjohnson4541 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mitsubishi quoted 50k miles for gearbox oil changes. This caused most of the issues you describe. Regular oil changes stopped these problems occurring- build up of debris on magnets causing shift errors. Boxes good for about 410lbft and reliable if regularly serviced.

      I have a 2014 MR with 124,000 km's on it and the SST is as strong as it was off the showroom floor. Mitsu never had sleepers, dyno tests from day 1 showed the MR lost more power to the drivetrain which is just physics. Where the MR wins, the shifts are milliseconds and no one has millisecond shifts on manuals.The problem with the shift forks was idiots running launch control when the trans temp was under 160F. Cold+dual clutch+launch control kills hyper car dual clutches, a $40,000 Evo MR can't avoid dumb owners. Mitsubishi and Getrag have a core exchange program...not new to the auto world, it's cost efficient. This is because the SST is strong...if it was weak, they'd toss it in the recycler bin.

      No that's not from evo, that's from lancer , codenamed as 4g93t (evo is 4g63t). Proton owners (except Perdana owners) are only allowed to install 4g93 because JPJ's strict restriction allowing only engines with 200cc capacity larger than the standard engine swapped into a chassis. For example, Proton Waja is 1.6, so only engines with 1.8 capacity are allowed to be swapped into Proton Waja.

      The whole point of the dual-clutch design was that it could shift gears faster than any other transmission. In case that wasn't convincing enough, Mitsubishi used one of the oldest tricks in automotive marketing and loaned the press some SST cars with more power than stock.
      I think it was a European magazine that was doing a GSR vs. MR comparison test, and dyno tested both cars. The MR, with the SST, had a definite hp advantage.

    • @liquidleopard4495
      @liquidleopard4495 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@henrique6282 The 6-speed SST *replaced* the 6-speed manual transmissions, partly because older 6-speeds were weak. Their torque rating was considerably lower than that standard 5-speed. With cat-back exhaust and a cold-air intake, you could exceed the 6-speed's torque rating without ever turning up your boost. I knew a couple of Evo owners that swapped in a 5-speed as soon as they wore out their 6-speed.
      It was weak because there was no room to make the transmission any longer - the engine and tranny are mounted sideways and constrained by the width of the engine bay - so to put 6 gears in a space designed for 5 meant making the gears narrower.
      The SST has totally different geometry inside than the manual transmissions. It has the virtue of putting half the gears on one shaft, and half on the other shaft, so they could be at least as strong as the 5-speed.
