@@tornadotom2390 DJ was lucky that Rodtang had absolutely no experience in ground game. DJ could use all he knew when he survived the first round which went beyond Rodtang's skillset. Nothing Rodtang was at any point in the match allowed to do was alien to DJ, but just trading punches he stood no chance. This is the nature of these cross discipline fights with different rules per round; no matter how you try to balance it it will always favour someone and obviously when one party comes from MMA they're the ones favoured by any rules since they've done it all. That doesn't mean that they can come anywhere near their opponent in their specific discipline. Mostly props to Rodtang here for taking that challenge.

I believe DJ's smart and tricky plus fast and agile enough to get through or survive the first (Muay Thai rules) round, and then come back to win the second (MMA rules) round, finishing Rodtang via submission

In a Muay Thai career, almost all the fighters his age are the veterans. They start fighting very young and fight quite often.

I think depending on how the first round goes (damage to DJ) he really will be cautious, he won't want to get rear naked choked 10 seconds after the 2nd bell goes.
Rodtang has an 8cm height advantage and you'd have to say he looks the stronger of the two also. If I had to bet I'd put money on 2nd round submission by DJ.

In traditional muay thai rules which rodtang is accustomed to, you get docked points from running. Back pedaling in traditional muay thai rules can also be seen as running. That's why muay thai fighters are trained to take multiple hard shots, it's about the appearance of looking strong in muay thai. A checked kick can still score if the person was affected by it ever so slightly.
You definitely do not get docked points for back pedalling in Muay Thai. As a matter of fact, in traditional Muay Thai, if you are the forward aggressor but are unable to land effective strikes and score, you will lose. Because in Thailand, this is a sign of desperation and failure to stay composed and control the fight.
@@frag6028 you do get reduced points of you are running away or fleeing. Muay thai is about the appearance of being strong. Evading a kick is different from running from it and not countering to end the exchange. Same with checking a kick, if you check and they still push you back or knock it out of the way, the kick scores. Same with arm kicks too. You definitely get docked points for looking weak, so yes if you are running from the engagement constantly, you will get docked points.
@@guidomista8448 I do agree that Muay Thai scoring traditionally is about looking strong. And yes, if you visibly look tired or scared and run away and DO NOTHING, obviously you will lose points. But I’m guessing you don’t watch stadium Muay Thai or have not been to Thailand, if you think that simply being on the back foot will lose you the fight. I won fights when I was NOT the forward aggressor, and by simply countering. You do not score points in Thailand for simply being the one moving forward. And like i said, ironically, if you’re the one moving forward throwing wild hands and never landing, you will be the one that LOSES. Western Muay Thai and Traditional Muay Thai is very different in terms of point of view and scoring… Watch a 5 round stadium fight. By the end of the round, the Thais are not engaging AT ALL, they literally stop fighting and dance around if they believe they already won rounds 3 and 4, signalling they do not have to engage because they’ve already won.
@@frag6028 that's not what I'm talking about bro, yes I do watch muay thai, my kru jongsanan fairtex is the one telling me this. I never talked about simply aggressing forward, I was saying rodtang isn't used to the kickboxy type of evasion, which can be confused as running. That's all I said. You get docked points for running away and looking scared. I haven't lived in Thailand but I get this told to me daily first hand.
@@frag6028 backpedalling CAN be seen as running away, as long as it's not evasion, slipping, or standing on the back leg to teep or counter. Obviously if you are making the dude look silly by making his punches and kicks go wide, then of course you are winning. Just look at lersilla, that's the perfect example. But he never runs away, or back pedals to avoid confrontation.
I don't know how Rodtang tanked that head kick but for the punches there's some subtle rolling with the punches there. His defense is quite methodical and there's an element of really smart and efficient intimidation.
DJ should be a commentator after he’s done fighting, dude is way smart.
As for the "are they just not hitting him hard enough" thing you try hitting Rodtang hard enough when you're in his weight class. DJ didn't do that either; he won on ground game.
The thing is Rodtang's conditioning is crazy and he does see every one of those punches coming as is proved by the fact he turns with them. His head turns before the hit lands thereby minimising the damage. He literally lets his opponents connect to then shake it off which is super demoralising. It's a psychological game.

DJ didn't immediately got a hold of him and Rodtang did a good job by not letting DJ sink that choke easily, not bad for someone who's debuting at MMA against a legend like him.

When the hype and anticipation is this high, the fight will almost certainly be disappointing.
Pretty much DJ will take him down if the round allows it.
having trained both thai boxing and jiu jitsu, i think theres a higher chance of dj submitting him during the mma rounds than rodtang finishing dj in a striking match. reason being that in a striking match, dj can dance around most of the time and avoid contact just surviving the round. but in mma, he can just shoot on him and stay on him for the whole round looking for incremental advancements to get a submission. minutes on the ground is a longer time than minutes standing up.
@@1111111111202 he should still be careful not shooting right away tho. Aoki had same fight before with K-1 champ 1st with k-1 rule and ran and 2nd round MMA but he went for takedown right away and got kneed.
@@1111111111202 you don't have to have trained in boxing and jiu jitsu to know that lol. ofc there's a better chance of DJ submitting him, but there's also a good chance Rodtang catches him with a knee after a scramble like DJ's last opponent did. the beauty of the ONE ruleset is that those defending a takedown have more options available to them, I.E hitting knees to kneeling opponents, etc.

The thing about the running isn’t that it’s not a strong strat in some cases it’s that it’s often in rodtangs case being used by opponents who are getting the absolute works done to them. So they’re running and trying to tire him out and he doesn’t wanna play into that game.
It’s a two way street just like there’s no rules about running away there’s no rule that he has to chase you.

DJ has some really good points when he loses he begs the guy to fight his fight.
He’s not losing it’s just a clash of styles, he wants to stand and bang at all times and they’re trying to fight tactical so he doesn’t beat them up. Rodtang just doesn’t feel like chasing them all around the ring, he’d rather just let the ref reset them to a neutral position where they’re in range again
