For the record, I am doing okay, and I am thankful I am not one of the millions of people who deal with lifelong, costly, debilitating illnesses.
But I'm not out of the woods yet
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT a medical professional, nor should my experience be used or be justification to diagnose yourself. I am going to continue living my life as I always have, and monitor my health, I will continually be in contact with a medical professional whenever it is necessary, I will be my own advocate, but I will always treat the words of a professional with the respect their field deserves, and in the rare instance I have experience with an unprofessional member of our healthcare system, I will seek out a second opinion from a reputable source. This video is only based on my own, anecdotal, one (or two) time experience with one doctor.

I wish you all the best, Skybird, hope you get well soon! If your doctor dismisses all of this it doesn't sound like a good doctor at all, damn.

    Hey Skybird,
i‘m (almost) a doctor from germany. My final examen is next week. Of course there is no way I could give you a diagnosis from only what you tell in the video, so big disclaimer. THIS IS NO MEDICAL ADVICE, but just my. thoughts I wanted to share on your video:
    1. It is common to prescribe antibiotics even without bloodwork. This is called empirical antibiotic therapy. The medication usually covers the potential bacteria of certain infections in a certain region. Only if the Infection is severe, perseveriert or if there are other high risk constellations (old age, other systematic diseases, immun superssing medication etc.) a sample will be taken to grow the specific bacteria and adapt the antibiotic medication.
    2. A meningitis is an highly accute infection which leads to severe pain, fever, neurological symptoms (like reduced conciousness etc.), it worsens within hours and often ends lethal. While skin infections are often hauses by s. aureus, meningitis is more often hauses by a different sort of bacteria. So from what you tell, a meningitis in your case appears very unlikely to me.
    3. A Lumbal puncture is an invasive diagnostic method with several complications related to it such as infection, relevant bleeding. There needs to be a clear indication for it to be performed, which your doctor in your case most likely did not see. And it probably wouldn‘t have helped finding the cause of your symptoms because as explained earlier an infection of your nervous system or a meningitis appears unlikely.
    4. The bloodwork is something she defenetly could have done. Especially if it is a problem you have longer. The way you describe your interaction with the doctor makes me suspect, that she assumes your symptoms to be psychosomatic (hope I translated that one correctly).
If you want you could DM me and we could elaborate on your „case“, if you have any questions. Maybe I can help a little.

I appreciate the input, I was aware of both the precautions of prescribing an antibiotic without blood work (though I would have loved for my doctor to have offered the option to get blood work done anyway) and about the invasiveness of Lumbar Puncture, and that it presents complications!! I can't know for sure from what I am suffering, but I mean to express a I'm willing to do my part, as much as possible to get better! I really appreciate the input :)
Best of luck to you with your final exam!

Antibiotics have been known on occasion to lead to additional illnesses due to killing normoflora bacteria, essentially creating a "power vacuum" for microbes. I know nothing about your condition, so don't take my comment too seriously. Just thought you might find that info helpful/interesting.normaflora

Yep, it's all about weighing the benefits vs the risks, both as a patient, but also as a potential vector of anything that might be contagious. I hope it it nothing serious

That's why during antibiotic treatment you would occasionally take probiotics to replenish healthy bacteria, both in pill form and probiotic yogurt form.
