    My first Peugeot , 40 years with a full licence.Yes its very good. Just clocked up one year with a 1.2 SW Turbo Petrol. Comfortable, enough power. Done a couple of long motorway trips fully loaded. Fuel around town is not to good,low 30,s motorway i have seen 54 MPG fully loaded, 4 adults and a toddler. Nothings broken, fallen off, starts first time. Even the local dealer has been good. I love it. Recommended.

    Why so much hate on Peugeot? I really like it actually. I could do without the minimalist dash, but nothing else I can't live with.

      99,9% of people who hate it are stupid little brats who never even came close to this car, let alone spent any time with it to be able to judge it, they hate something based on nothing. It won car of the year award in almost every European country, and people who know what the fuck they're talking about decided about that. This car has no major objective downsides. It's very well made, roomy, looks nice, very practical, has great modern engines, great chassis, it's very safe, very well equipped, fairly priced, etc. You don't like the screen? It's your problem, it's doesn't mean the car is bad, some of us like it. You don't like the small steering setup? Again, your personal preference, doesn't mean it's bad, some prefer it. You think it's not fun enough to drive? Well...I think you'll appreciate the comfort and refinement much more in a long run than a slightly sharper handling car, something that you'll notice only once in a while, as opposed to comfort which you notice all the time. This is car that you do a 1000 km journey in, and you come out feeling fresh like you never traveled at all, and that's something only good cars can do, regardless of price. The interior quality of this car is also top notch. No other car in the segment (and many in the segment above) feels as special inside. It has very premium feel inside, high quality soft touch plastics all over the place, real aluminium pieces, no fake materials, etc. combined with a very futuristic and minimalistic design, which actually is very claming when you sit inside it, it's a car that makes you feel good when you sit inside, or to use the cliche, it has that french charm about it, but in a modern way.

      woah, I never said I hated the dash. It looks absolutely great, but I could live with it having a bit more buttons. that's all I said. I really like this car, but you have to admit, the screen looks really laggy.

    Research your software Matt. Along the top of each screen there is a shortcut - so you DON'T have to press the a/c button on the left - touch the a/c shortcut at the top and when done it auto returns. Nice! Oh and btw, anybody who thinks the software UI on this unit is difficult to navigate knows nowt - it's dead easy - pfaff it ain't.

    Almost two-thirds of the video talking about negatives? The screen interface complaints is reasonable but the back seat it's not too cramped at all! I bet if a Volkswagen have that legroom you'll say "The legroom is not the best in the world but it's not too bad at all!"

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 10 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      He complains about things that are very subjective. He doesn't like the touch screen and he doesn't like the small steering. He then presents it as bad points of the car. Why? Because he's biased, you can clearly see that in all Matts reviews of french cars, he always finds the most minor things, then overexaggerates them to make it seem like it's a shitty car. And you noticed the rear leg room as well. You see how much space there is? At least 15 cm's from his knee to the front seat, and he said there's not enough space....

      He says the system is not a good as that in a vw well I was in a few new vws just to give them another chance and see what all the fuss was about!! However the Peugeot is far superior and I mean far superior in terms of quality! The screen on the new vw Passat is especially bad! When you press on one of the buttons the screen actually pixilates, it feels really bad quality like that of the quality on my old 2012 Passat! It still feels flimsy, so I really don't know why all these reviews are so German biased!

  • @MrRobertLake
    @MrRobertLake 10 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I never though that I would buy a French car, but after having test driven the 308 SW, I got completely hooked. So stylish, the touch pad really do work, instrumentation is where you can see it all the time, the small stearing weel, etc.so cool. I cannot look at the competitors any more. They are so filled with buttons, knobs and switches everywhere, why? Design for 1970s DDR? Ugly and for what purpose, when you are driving? My choice was easy, the 308 is the future, given its style, a good engine, all that is inlcuded that the competitiors charge extra for and a decent price. (And, having the fuzze box filling up the glove compartment is only for the UK market!)

  • @derbigpr500
    @derbigpr500 10 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    As always when it comes to reviewing french cars, they take things they personally don't like, and make it sound like the car is bad because of that. Be more objective, and less subjective.

      Actually if you are going to drive tons of kilometers, you'd better need a less fun and more comfy suspension. Firmer suspension will be less confortable in spite of taking curbs faster and being more fun.

    • @Sherukka
      @Sherukka 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually this car delivers both. It is comfortable and thanks to the near perfect feel in the steering and the small steering wheel it is also so much fun on a twisty backroad. Take it out for a spin, because we all have different tastes, but I surely like a more comfortable car against one with a stiffer suspension because of the bad road we have.

    Having driven Audi cars for a number of years, I've recently given up on them after experiencing too many QC issues with my last two A4's. Their legendary status would appear to be the result of a large wad of cash dished out to "motoring journalists" every year for favourable reviews.

    I don't know what is with these car reviewers and testers..Me and a whole lot of people I know had driven in 208 and the new 308 and not one of us has problems with the steering wheel obscuring the dials. The only people I know who are complaining are the reviewers and testers. By the look of it, the presenter is just stubborn and lazy in not wanting to lower the steering while like what the designers wanted. Also, Peugeots are now more reliable than VWs. All I hear are mostly undeserved praises on German makes..

    They could've saved a good few minutes on this interview by just saying hi I'm Matt and I hate Peugeots.
    If there was a German badge on the front of this car the driving position with the raised dials and smaller steering wheel would've been a stroke of genius. The touchscreen would've been seen as a brilliant idea to be more minimalistic in the car. I think that both Peugeot and Citroen are really starting to turn the corner with their cars and bringing out some really nice models.

    Carbuyer Oh come on! all the negative points are all subjective, and feel exaggerated just because it's a Peugeot. I've noticed that if something innovative like the touch screen was put into a VW, it would be seen as genius, but in a Peugeot, it's suddenly laggy and a bad idea. so, on a German car the true negatives are played down, on a French car the 'negatives' are exaggerated. That sport steering wheel has no problem whatsoever. Please start making some neutral reviews!

    This is my partner's new car. My problem is with the reverse gear engagement and pulling the ring up. I have quite small hands and have difficulty in holding the ring up. My partner pulls the ring from above and holds the ring but my fingers cannot reach and grip the ring to pull it up. I tried palming the ring up but then I could not push the gear stick over to the left with my wrist at that angle.My solution is to grip the ring, push it up ad then I can push the stick into reverse. It works and I love the reassuring ping when I know it is engaged i reverse! I would love to hear if others have this difficulty? It can't be just me?

      BartSimpson not really, they spend a lot of time showing the best state attributes it had and only complained about the fact the interior could have been made only whit nice touch plastics and that its not the funniest state on the market, the touch screen is a matter of days until you get used to it, however i agree that can not be as good as traditional buttons but face it, its a matter of time until the rest of automakers go that way to, Peugeot is not the first...

      Stuff like that is pretty bad faults though, you don't want to have to change menu's every time you are going to change the heat etc. It's actually almost verging on being dangerous. User friendliness is a big part of making a good driver environment. But as Mat pointed out, it's dull to drive so you'll probably be going so slowly it won't be as much of a problem :P

    • @rui518
      @rui518 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      G0ML3 did you realize that you have a nice virtual button for each big menu and lets face it how many times during driving access the menus? really see on your car, in mine the only thing i make a few times is changing the radio and for that you have the steering button, the air con is set when you get in the car probably adjust it once after driving but not always changing the settings...

    strange... I'm far from being tall person (173cm), but I had ABSOLUTELY NO problem with viewing dials over the steering wheel... and the steering wheel was not in the most low position and my sitting position was "by the book" (wrist of extended hand on top of the steering wheel, crucial "body joints" (knees, hips, elbows) approximately under 120 degrees)...
    so, or the respected presenters seating position was wrong or he is a "midget"... or he simply is bias towards Peugeot cars...

    CarBuyer - Sorry but your steering-wheel comments just come across as being petulant and childish; 'Why should I do that?' How about having an open-minded attitude? I tried a 208 with the same wheel - after the 2nd day it made perfect sense. I don't see any evidence of this guy encouraging innovation, or being open to alternative design. That's a good five inches of space between leg and seat back, there's more rear storage area than a 508 SW with the seats up, and most of the issues could be sorted by fitting a more responsive touch screen (the Apple comment made me laugh, it's hardly relevant unless you're able to fit your own tablet, which you're not), or at least by having dedicated heating controls like in the 208. The dials could do with minor height adjustment - or a variation on the HUD from the 508 - if it's going to continue to be an issue (not here), and the roof line could do with being less sloped, at least until it gets towards the C pillar, though this is par for the course for estates really. It's a bit of a shame that the ergonomics do favour left-hand drivers more but at the very least, they did re-position the wipers (the 206 was strange in that the fuse box was flipped, but the wipers weren't).
    Just little things, in the end, easy to drag down a score in combination but easy to put right in the next design. None of it would bother me as a 208 owner but YMMV, of course.

    Kind of sad. This is one of the reviews that Mat doesn't end on a good note. :(
    I was actually liking this car. But my biggest concern was where Mat said you have to use the touchscreen for most of the functions. And that (as he said) can be dangerous because it requires you to take your eyes off the road.
    Funny irony in how he usually bashes the back middle seat in cars. But this was one case where it was actually the best back seat.

    I think Peugeot is trying to bring in more younger buyers, the inside styling is defenetly a bit futuristic and then like i already said the touchscreen: "how cool it is to change heating in a touchscreen". Basically putting all the everyday actions on the touchscreen.

      It's actually a move by PSA to make Peugeout more premium whilst Citroën remains affordable. This car is meant to take some customers from Mercedes (C-class) and BMW (3-series) by offering more modern features.

    • @rui518
      @rui518 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Erik Nyberg not c-class or 3-series but a-class and 1-series, peugeot will not be the premium brand, it will be the best non premium brand on the road that will be able to take down a few premium brands, DS will be the ones being premium...

    • @ErikSWE
      @ErikSWE 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rui518 308 is a much bigger car than the A class and 1-series. C class and 3-series are the higher end "low-cost" products of the premium Germans, PSA wants to attract these customers by offering more for less. You can read more about it here: goo.gl/fYSKBN

    • @rui518
      @rui518 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Erik Nyberg but the size is very different, the 3 series is 30 cm longer than the 308, however when we are talking about the SW and the touring the story is a little different, the BMW is only 5 cm bigger and has less 115 liters of space, the price difference is considerable, i just made a configuration and the 308 sw whit 2.0 hdi auto full extras is 42,000€ bmw 320d ED auto whit similar extras (possible a few of them are not completely similar is hard to see) is 65,000€...
      Just the time will tell, but this guys on this videos always put down french cars...

  • @ofiv

    Only real problem is air conditioning controlled through very unfriendly touch screen. Can be easily solved through one physical knob controlling temperature on driver side, which is really the only one needed while driving.

    One major gripe i have about this car and those similar to it is the engine itself. The point of the smaller engine is to maintain a good fuel economy. However what happens when you load the car up with people and luggage, it tends to bog down quite a bit. What good is a car that cannot overtake due to the fact that its weighted down with friends, family, and stuff?

    • @rui518
      @rui518 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think that the engine has enough power for overtake, i have a 406 SW HDi it has less torque and less power than this one and wights almost more 300 Kilos and even whit 2 friends and the boot complete full and whit more than 250K Km driven it easely overtake a car that is making 90Km/h...

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What makes you think a small engine will bog down? It doesn't matter what size it is. You think a 7 liter V8 with 130hp and 250 Nm of torque would be faster than a 1.2 3 cyl with 130hp and 250 Nm of torque?

    • @razorworks111
      @razorworks111 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smaller engines tend to have low torque and (in the case of naturally aspirated variants) less bhp. I will concede that there may be exceptions to the rule, but smaller engines tend to struggle with loaded cars than larger engines with more torque on tap.

    • @HB45175
      @HB45175 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Small turbo engines are heavily favoured in the NEDC, which is the static test made to determine fuel economy. The problem is that NEDC is performed _stationary_, _indoors_, at 22 C (an ideal temperature), with _all_ power consuming devices off (lights, aircon, radio etc.) and of course without any load at all.
      You will _never_ achieve the NEDC rating in the real world. Yes, it's the same test that all manufacturers refer to but in reality it all comes down to how good they are at optimising their cars for the cycle. Japanese and American manufacturers have complained that their cars are rated unfairly and indeed if you look at Mazda they have decided to ditch the turbo and go for more displacement because that results in lower real life consumtion.

    [04:55] Honda Civic doesn't have a Diesel engine though which makes it rather uninteresting to the Fleet market. Skoda Octavia is definately a good alternative albeit slightly more expensive but with a better resell value it's going to be the better lease option.

    Don't think all that touchscreen is such a good idea in an interior. sure it looks fancy, but from a practical standpoint I guess it will dangerously distracting and hard to do while driving...

      @stephen10. 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      no , when you touch the screen , the air conditioned screen arrives in first , it s very easy ., after the radio screen arrives automatically . it s not dangerous . and the picture is big and clear to use it .you don t need to search everywhere when you drive . it s more easy than small buttons in the down of the dash board.
      i have been surprised by the simplicity . it 's well designed .

    • @mirkozlikovski9553
      @mirkozlikovski9553 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree... any kind of these "multi-purpose colour TV's" in cars is more then less a bad idea and well placed control button that can be operated "blindly" by touch&feel" is better...
      but I have to say that this PSA's touch screen system is one of the least complicated in terms of transparency and ease of use... practically each control is just "two presses away", graphic is big and easy to "read" and the touch screen, though not the epitome of ultra swift response, is not nearly that drastically slow as Mat likes to "wail" about... ;). in terms of "usability" it beats classic MMI "turn button" system I had in A4 hands down!

    They should have put a one button heat control on the steering wheel if they decided to go with the touch screen. I personally think all these touch screen things are bad ideas. Ford has similar problems with Sony touch system.

    • @rui518
      @rui518 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      you don't need it, you are not always changing the AC or heater and the front and rear defroster still have a normal button on the dash, radio volume still a round button... lets be honest you always are looking to other places when driving, for what a read and saw the touch screen has large virtual buttons so its easy to use, only the satnav is a little crappy and slow...

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let me tell you a secret I've found after living with the 308 for a week when we tested it. The climate control screen is the one you have on the screen 99% of the time. Why? Because all other screens you can have are just menus to set up stuff. You control the radio completely from the steering wheel, and you have the touch screen for the climate control. The only time you have to go away is when you use the sat nav.

  • @abarthpz
