Remembering that the whole point of the AMI is for people as young as 14 to be able to get around independently before they can get a license, the simplicity of it as well as the top speed makes complete sense. This is not meant as a new EV but rather a way to get to school, go see friends, go to the cinema etc etc in a town or city not as a family car or for long trips and I think a lot of reviewers (not here though) seem to forget that when reviewing it. Cheap to run, cheap to repair with replacement panels and even if missing things like AC I think I would rather have the AMI on a hot day with a USB fan plugged in than the Twizzy on a rainy or snowy day :)
I've now watched quite a number of reviews of the Ami and, I have to say, other than the frankly 'pedestrian' 28mph / 45kph limited top speed (L6e 'light quadricycle' legislation, so that those lucky 14 year olds in France are allowed to drive it - though I wonder how long it'll be before someone works out how to de-limit the thing...???), I think it's an incredibly clever piece of design. Citroen has designed the front and rear panels to be identical - just headlights or brake lights to swap. Plus, each door is identical - which is why the driver's door opens in a 'suicide' fashion. And, your surprise at how much legroom there was in the passenger seat is because you place your luggage in the footwell - can't do that in a Twizzy...! As others have said on here - electric scooter in the rain or Ami...? Surely, that's a no-brainer...!
Great Video, we had a quick go in the Ami, first thing we noticed was the hard seat! Certainly a fun little car, plenty of advantages over a moped, and suggested price of £6000. A little slow, but not bad. Basic, but usable to carry the shopping home.
Great to see under the Ami. I would like to have seen the same on the Twizy. It seems that if you want/need the extra speed then spend the extra cash. The Twizy is more of a single person vehicle. Both I imagine are great fun to drive.
Twizy takes the design cue from the Baja Dune Buggy. That’s one kind of retro cool. The Ami is inspired by the T model where you can have in one shape and one color. People like simplicity and both of these quadracycles deliver!
I'll get an Ami to do the very short hops to the grocery store and little other things near home where anyway with traffic and what not it doesn't really matter if you can only go 45km/h. I don't use my car that much so aside from going to work and occasional trips somewhere during the weekends so it will be a pretty good solution for me for the shorter journeys.
I much prefer the Twizy - unless it's raining, but then you can get good windows for the Twizy now! I think the Ami's 28mph top speed is just a bit too slow. I noticed that the Ami is considerably cheaper than my Specialized Electric Mountain Bike!
Love both, both flawed, if only a happy marriage of the two was available, ie more room, better build, more speed, lower cost. I think both have just missed the mark and if sorted something between these two would be a game changer. Oh p.s it seems legislation created these little beasts so assume if all countries looked at their legislation to make it possible for some sort of realistic compromise?
Haha 😃 unbiased walk around of the Ami, it is so funny how you pretend to want to like the Ami but fail... and if your title says comparison to the Twizy, you should compare them and not just look at one piece of the equation. I like both of them, have not made up my mind yet which one I would prefer
The Ami is a bit too much like a mobility scooter and at my age I didn't want this for my first (and possibly last) EV so if I had to make the choice I would have had a Twizy so that why I got an MG4 for popping down the shops in 😊

The guy who produces the PowerBox upgrade for the Twizy, which plugs into the OBD port, is reportedly onto developing something for the AMI in future.
