One thing about renting a house vs a modern condominium, is you have staff to make repairs and deal with the flooding at condominiums. At a private house either you need to take care of the problems or expect a long wait for your landlord to help you.
@Pat B interesting read. Yes, liability laws are different in each country. But in the US the act of God defense holds up in Court only if " the disaster was such an event , so sudden, where a reasonable man could not take remedies to mitigate ". In school we would often joke where the Court could ever find that reasonable man. In any event the condo building insurance should cover the damage to the common area as well as the individual apartment owner apartment and car insurance normally insured under the same policy would cover damage to the apartment and auto . Do not know about Thailand.
@@crcr7659 you are referring to the issue in Maimi. Yes, in its case, normal insurance for hurricane or wind damages, would not cover the structural problems in the building. Clearly, the management board of directors of the Florida condominium that collapsed did not do their due diligence and addressed the issues, make the repairs and give every apartment owner an assessment. Normally in the case where millions of dollars are needed the building would take out a loan, make the repairs and issue an assessment. One nice thing about Pratamnak Hill neighborhood in Pattaya is that it never floods during rainy season. Central Pattaya seems to be the worse, they’ve never solved this problem and seems to get worse year after year.
Flooding been going on forever. I go back to 2004 and remember some wet years. Pattaya geography is downslope all the way from the surrounding hills. years of cutting back forests, trees, shrubs and other vegetation is bad. Those used to be buffers and help absorb and slow down the water and give it time to soak into the ground and reservoirs and underground aquifers. Instead, now the fresh water runs off into the sea. And Pattaya itself of course with all its concrete speeds up the runoff and even less time and area for the water to soak into the ground. And some of the streets and building layouts, literally make for conduits and flow choke points that increases the water speed to currents! They could clean the sewers all they want but they could never build enough capability to handle all the water. There is lots and lots of square miles and acre-feet of water heading Pattaya's way.

Are the houses in Pattaya raised? I know that in Koh Samui another video I was watching showed raised houses. They looked cute but they were also practical because of the rain.
Lucas - I can’t say I miss the rainy season…. I think it time you invest in some Crocs! I bought a condo in Jomtien ( Cococabana ) I wonder how it will fair with all this rain; completion date next year.
To move from Pattaya because of flooding is crazy. Pattaya is always a mess in rainy season. There is no high ground in Pattaya. Moving uphill is the logical choice. The truth is : this is Thailand and it's rainy season. Just a foot up for my residence on a long 20 foot incline which is 2 feet from the road is my home in Chiang Mai. I am from Albany New York. You can evacuate to another flood prone area of Pattaya. Evacuate in elevation.
I lived in Pattaya for two years until about 3 weeks ago, now back home, that's by far the worst flood I've seen. I know your Soi well, I walked from the mall to Soi Buakhao countless times. Hopefully this will be the worst one and go back to the normal levels.
If your living any place prone to flooding you should really be aware it is getting worse... sea levels are rising but what has a bigger impact is that a warmer atmosphere holds more moisture, so rain fall events are getting stronger, there is now 10% more moisture in the atmosphere on average. These are further amplified by 'stuck' weather patterns resulting from the warming Arctic making the jet stream wavier... Anyway the takeaway is that the science says things will get a lot worse in the future, the only question is how quickly.
Over here in the Philippines I've learned to check on if it's a flood area 1st thing. I've seen some beautiful developments that flood every bad storm or typhoon. The same areas will flood every rain or storm because the people who throw all their garbage and plastics in the drainage systems
I have learnt the hard way. Am renting a house off 3rd Road and about a foot-high of water filled inside. I was here last time it flooded and it stopped just short of the front door seal. This time the downpour was much worse. The water was absolutely filthy and cockroaches everywhere. Spent from early morning to until late evening cleaning after water receded about late afternoon. Damaged furniture. Luckily I was able to lift up the expensive stuff off the floor. Next day, putrid stinky water and remnants. I don't want to know what it had in it. And now days of anxiety and sleepless nights because more heavy rain forecast. I feel for the Thai people who have lived with this all their lives. Living in elevated premises is the way to go.
I think it’s an absolute disgrace the council haven’t sorted this out properly now the town is so quiet. It was all supposed to be upgraded already and it looks as bad, if not worse than before. I really feel for all the business owners who were just hanging on, this must be the final insult. That water is full of effluent backed up from the drains, cholera and polio etc waiting to happen.

Are people on Pratumnak hill exempt from all that ?
Pretty much
To move from Pattaya because of flooding is crazy.
Had a bigger one 5 years ago. I remember the cars floating down soi khao talo.
I lived in Pattaya for two years until about 3 weeks ago, now back home, that's by far the worst flood I've seen. I know your Soi well, I walked from the mall to Soi Buakhao countless times. Hopefully this will be the worst one and go back to the normal levels.
Yes, some others have said it was the worst they've seen as well. Rained all night again last night 🤣
How badly were the snakes driven into the floodwater?
I got so interested in the flood I forgot where you were going. :)
I love it there. People are wonderful! But could not live there year round with the heat and the flooding.
Over here in the Philippines I've learned to check on if it's a flood area 1st thing. I've seen some beautiful developments that flood every bad storm or typhoon. The same areas will flood every rain or storm because the people who throw all their garbage and plastics in the drainage systems

Hi what is this condo name my friend and location please
Saw an update on the floods today . Now that's a lot of water
yeah, one of the worst ever I think.
When the road turn to be swiming pool, this is no fun, be patience, enjoy your day 🙉🙉🙉💋💋💐🥀
Owning some chest waders would be a good idea, ya think?
Wow, sounds terrible
I think it’s an absolute disgrace the council haven’t sorted this out properly now the town is so quiet. It was all supposed to be upgraded already and it looks as bad, if not worse than before. I really feel for all the business owners who were just hanging on, this must be the final insult. That water is full of effluent backed up from the drains, cholera and polio etc waiting to happen.
Don't worry about the guy at the bike shop. He is going to be super busy for probably months fixing wrecked bikes as a consequence of the floods.
