A stray cat came around my house in February already looking pregnant. Wasn’t sure if she was a stray but I started to feed her. When she was due she felt comfortable to walk in my house and pick a spot to give birth. She had her litter in March 1st. She ended up leaving when her kittens were a month. I took over the feeding part. She eventually came back and again pregnant. She just had her babies less than a week ago and this time I think it took a toll on her. She’s such a sweet cat and a good mama. I can’t just let her be ill. Taking care of newborn kittens is no easy job. They need their mama and I need to keep her healthy for them. I just purchased Oral Cal Gel, but was also recommended by one of their staff to get the oral cal powder and B Strong powder as well. Thank you guys so much for the help and guidance. ♥️

Where I live (UK) we are told not to give calcium until the first puppy is born and then you can give her calcium invetween each puppy being born

Good morning Amy, It would depend on the type of calcium your vet is recommending you to use. The oral cal plus we recommend using, we start at the first signs of labor to build it up into the system. It's much easier for mom when she has plenty to draw from then it is for her to be depleted and have to play catch up later.

hey there. were I live I can't get this calcium gel. I can however get a calcium syrup that contains 22mg/ml of calcium. advice from fellow breeders here who also can only access the syrups, is to use it after each pup, for my breed (german shorthaired pointer) I've been told dosage should be 20ml after each pup, which is 440mg of calcium after each pup. my question is, is there such thing as too much calcium? Is there a reccomended maximum dose of calcium for even a whelping dog? on the xray we have at least 11 confirmed puppies possibly more, so if I follow breeders advice I may end up giving the full 250ml bottle, a total of 5500mg of calcium during her labour? this sounds like a lot

Good morning Monica. I would recommend to consult with your local vet regarding any dosing for calcium syrup. I'm so sorry we can't give any recommendations for this product due to it's a product we don't carry or have information on and the for safety of your animals. We don't recommend giving mom's calcium supplements during pregnancy. It is recommended during whelping to help with labor and contractions. We don't go against what your vet maybe telling you. We can only give recommendations from our on staff vet Dr. Greer to help you. Sheryl at Revival.

@@RevivalAnimal thank you. My girl went into pabour on day 60 and first pup arrived at 12:12am day 61, by 4:13am she had had all TWELVE puppies! I'd managed to get in about 7 doses of 15ml, which I believe helped. What do you reccomend calcium wise while she lactates? Does she need calcium supplements while lactating? She's eating puppy dry food and some wet and raw food.

Good morning Monica. We don't recommend calcium while pregnant but it is highly recommended during whelping and post whelping. The amount of calcium needed does depend on the weight and type if calcium being used. Each pregnancy is different. Some may not require much calcium and others it seems they need it all through out to recover. I would recommend to consult with your local vet regarding how much to dose and how often for the safety of your animals. Sheryl at Revival

My bitch is 75lbs, and gaining daily. She will have her puppies in three weeks, and I expect about 8 or 10 puppies. I ordered Doc Roy's Oral Cal plus and have it ready in the fridge. When she starts labor, how much do I give, and how many syringes of OCP should I have on hand? TY!

Good morning Lad A Dog, The Oral Cals Plus gel first initial dose is 1ml for every 10lbs of body weight, then dose 1-3ml afterward every 4-6 hours until you see the first puppy. The dose after each puppy. Sheryl at Revival.

    What if they're getting a c section?

Good morning Rehab 101, If they're having a c section, we do recommend giving mom a dose of the oral cal plus 24 hrs before the c section and again post surgery to ward off any low calcium levels. We also recommend the Oral Cal Plus Powder post whelping to help mom recover better. Here's the link for you to look> www.revivalanimal.com/product/breeders-edge-oral-cal-plus-powder?sku=63216-498

My 3.5 year old cat has been in labor for almost 3 days. She is 70 days pregnant today. Shes having only weak contractions and has only pushed a handful of times over the past 24 hours. She is still eating drinking and going potty. She just seems exhausted but comfortable. She had her water break almost 24 hrs ago and since has pink watery discharge leaking out quite a bit. Its the only thing that comes out wjen she pushes. I fear kitten #1 is dead. I do feel at least 1 more kitten moving around still. I have no money and every vet within a 2 hr travel distance wont see me because of that or because we are not established with them. ( I am without a vehicle) Our normal vet is unable to see her because they dont have a technician there until next week. Ill try giving her some calcium and pray to god so hard that it helps. If not tgen what do I do? I let her and all the babies die? My god what a horrible scenario.

Good afternoon Amber, I so sorry you're going through this. I'm not sure what form of calcium you're giving her. We recommend the Oral Cal Plus gel to help with labor and contractions. Over the counter calcium tablets may not work as well and may take longer to get into the system because they have to go through the digestive track first. Here's the link for you> www.revivalanimal.com/product/breeders-edge-oral-cal-plus-gel?sku=63215-261. If you can get her to vet, even through it may be 2 hrs way, it would be much safer than waiting any longer to save her and any babies. I would also take a glove hand and put a finger in her vagina to see if you can feel any babies. This will also help her to produce oxytocin for contractions. Sheryl at Revival

Amber, I'm sorry I don't know what form of calicum you're giving. For the oral cal plus gel we sell, the dosing is> Dogs up to 20 lb, 2 mL initial dose; 1 mL per dose thereafter. Administer a measured dose every 4-6 hours until labor begins, and after each newborn until labor is complete. Sheryl at Revival.

Normal healthy pets do not need extra calcium.
