If the car tries to stall when you push the clutch in, it could be putting a lot of axial load on the crank with the crazy clutch, causing it to want to stall. This can create "crank walk" and wear out the thrust bearings. Might want to check end play in the motor. Also, the power steering pump sounds like it has the wrong fluid in it. These take ATF I think? Loving the car though, what a score! The Smokey Nagata Supra that set the record was indeed RB26 btw.
@wrighrw2 Not true. Google it and you'll see. Some manufacturers specify "ATF" while some specify "Power Steering Fluid Only" as they have different chemical properties and viscosity. I used power steering fluid in an RB25DET decades ago by accident, and the pump sounded the same as Sam's, very whiney. I looked it up and Nissan specified using ATF, so after draining the thinner viscosity power steering fluid (it's also clear yellow as opposed to a thick pink/red with ATF) the noise went away and the steering was normal.
@markhutchinson3367 there is different viscosities of Atf as such as there is with power steering fluid, and each are compatible with each other say Honda needs HPSO power steering fluid, this is still the same as say a Ford M2C ATF used in certain auto transmissions.
cringe? who's cringing here, that was a beautiful representation of absolutely everyone who cant afford one or dreams and will one day accomplish the dream
You dropped the ball on that one bro. Your girl is standing there waiting to hear that she looks way better than the car, regardless of how old each is.
Functions of the Snow Button in the 1990s Supra: Starts in Second Gear: When the snow mode is activated, the car starts in 2nd gear instead of 1st gear. This reduces torque delivered to the wheels, minimizing wheel spin and improving traction on slippery surfaces. Reduces Throttle Sensitivity: The snow mode adjusts the throttle response, making it less sensitive to input. This helps the driver maintain control and avoid sudden bursts of acceleration that could cause the wheels to lose grip. Optimized Shift Points: The transmission shifts gears earlier at lower RPMs to avoid excessive wheel spin. This smoother power delivery helps keep the car stable on slick roads.
Engine is good. Power steering has a clogged screen at the bottom of the reservoir. It is causing the pump to run out of fluid and cavitation results.. Clean and run fresh fluid and it should work. Get another stock seat if you can. Otherwise, go for some reclining Bride seats. HKS coil-overs will tame that squat. Loving the Supra..ENJOY!!
The tire rub on acceleration at 29:04 to me, sounded like one of those floating sand runner/speeder-bikes in Star Wars. 😁 The Supra cleaned up really nice for the 1st stage for sure, some proper coil overs and treads' and you'll be able to really hear it sing to you. Congrats on achieving your dream car that really is in great shape to begin with. Good "Car-ma" indeed!
From how I always understood it, those shirts are called wife beaters in reference to the old school stereotypical Italian immigrant guys in and around NYC. Think like gangster era 50s-80s. That term's been around forever, I knew about it in the mid 90s when I was in school.
Sam brother you deserve this car so much!! I'm SOOOO happy to see how clean this thing is!! Been waiting for this video for over a week now, I can't wait to see it drive!! 😁
I use to be well verse and up to date with all the aero tuners and motor tuners. I use to buy a lot of option and hyper Rev magazines back in the 80s-99s when I was in high school and college. But now I haven't even picked up any car magazine.
Sammit great vid and again so stoked for you that you finally got your Supra also my fave car and to see a legend back on the road like it deserves cant wait to see your plans great work 👍
Congratulations what an incredible car dude! Last year I rented a supra and drove from Chiba to Gunma and through Tokyo with it. Definitely the most wanted car on my list. The transmission was also making the same sounds.😂
Watching this video and the enjoyment and smile on your face driving the Supra you’ve come along way Sam congrats to both of you ❤️from Perth mate keep up the great content 👍
The Supra hood struts are so strong that they will crack a carbon hood so we normally either put blow struts on them or we take the locks off the top of the strut and attach them after we put the hood up like a prop
I would venture to guess that engine isn’t hurt. I almost feel like there is more to the story than you were told because there didn’t seem to be anything majorly wrong from the jump. I really wish you would have run the compression by now because I’ve been really curious if it is. The car is sick and I’m looking forward to seeing it get updated. Being that it’s a pretty special spec matching stock Recaro’s sound like the way to go for purists but a matching set of reclinable Brides with the black gradation color way would look super sick since it matches the gray.
Congrats on the Supra Sammit. I remember when I was young about 6 years old my aunt use to own a A70 that was my first experience with a JDM car. I remember clearly the sound of the turbo. Then when I was about 8 years old ,a friend of my father bought an A80 and I got the chance to go in a joyride. The A80 sounded more aggressive. Hopefully one day I can buy one of the two. ❤❤
Power steering is probably still making noise because you probably put power steering fluid. Most people make that mistake. Make sure you use dexron 3 ATF.
You could see that kid in sam come out when the the car squatted down on the pull and the tires rubbed…that kid that always wanted a supra came out in that laugh and smile i know he felt that hahaha as a car guy its recognizable lol hell yeah bro I am happy for ya sam mission accomplished now to raise a child…cheers to supras n babies lol
That recaron is an optional extra which was available across all models and the coolant expansion bottle should be at the front across the bumper bar in front of the bonnet latches they also come on soarers it's a square bottle
Getrag have always had noisey throw out bearings its renowned on the mitsi colts, they rattle at idle with the clutch out, strong boxes tho so worth it imho
Love the car, The aero is great looking from the doors back, get rid of front end kit parts. Build it for a Street , Grip style car OEM + look maybe. Ohh and it must be Sammit Pink. Can't wait for the build to come. Keep up the grind your doing great, and please make a trip to the US this winter and get Rudnick on track, the boy is a mess.
It certainly doesn’t seem like it’s hurt, in fact I didn’t give me that impression when it was in Okinawa either. I kinda got the vibe that there may have been issues with the previous owner and were just over it or someone just didn’t want to work on it. But I’m just watching it on video, not even knowing the price I’m better you got a killer deal. That’s an investment grade vehicle so you really can’t go wrong with it. The car is gorgeous I just hope you don’t paint it pink. 🤪
You need to get some Advan center caps for the rims to make them really look official The car is beautiful Love the wing can't wait to see how she turns out
The gearbox sounds just like mine. I think its especially noisy when its not the dual mass flywheel. If its a push type clutch convert it to a hydraulic throw out bearing with a larger bore master cylinder will leave the clutch so much lighter
Check the diff, noise coming through trans tunnel can potentially be diff related , a friend of mines MX5 used to do it and that turned out to be diff problems
Those are worn out hood struts because good ones will FOLD or crack the hood prob. Just make a hood prop work for it. I've had my share of light-weight fiberglass hoods.
Congradulations on the Supra purchase!! And I'm glad your enjoying the MK4 Supra life!!~ :D Honestly I REEEEEEEAALLLY hope before you go full revamp you gets to rip on the motor with the current Turbo setup. Cause it sounds like it spools early and wants to RIP!!~ It would be nice to enjoy the car/motor in its current Period correct setup before upgrading. Though I dunno if you'll see this message. I wanted to say that, Overall Toyota Supra's were "Touring" car's more so than sports cars. They were made for doing exactly what your doing. Cruising and being comfortable on long drives on the highway and through cities. They were built for long distance cruises, hence why they're so comfortable, spacious and everything is layed out in such convenient places. By the way if you do see this, MK4's are Notorious for rear squat under any form of load. Even in Drag racing or roll racing when a Supra launches you always see the rear squat because of the weight. But even with that, I don't think you'll really need to go down in rear tire size because your going to need to wider tires for traction. Going to 265's will give you nothing but wheelspin. But you definitely need to get some STIFF Springs/shocks in the rear to counter the squat in the rear. If you get something to reduce rear squat you can keep your current tire size and enjoy the car as is for a while. The trans shouldn't be making that noise though.. definitely get that looked at and the power steering checked. Overall if you really want good advice for Supra's I highly recommend talking to/messaging Rad Dan as soon as possible. He know's Supra's like Mad Mike Know's RX-7's. If there's someone that can help get you sorted and get your Supra perfected the way you want it, its him.
There's so many specs Supras are out there, but there's one I saw 89-91 Toyota Supra only sold as a coupe as a MK1 it's very rare. Also I spotted a Mitsubishi GTO 2000gt also a coupe. It was a long time ago.
Hopefully Sam can get with one of his friends in Japan who is heavy into the Supra scene and have them do a "proper" inspection. Then Sam will really know where the car is right now and he can decide what fixes and mods he wants to do. But from what I see the engine will probably just need a refresh and full service. Later if he wants to do time attack with that car he'll need to do a proper setup for that.
Put new transmission fluid from toyota it should solve it. But if you change clutch change bearing too. Power steering could been clogged up. Check filters put new fluid in👍
He had another Supra called the GT300 and that had a 3S-GTE engine and Volk TE85s which in my opinion are the best looking wheels ever put onto a Supra JZA80
The power steering noise could be from worn out o-rings on power steering pump allowing air back into the system. It's common on older Subaru's. Could be the same for Toyota's?
I cant be the only one that thinks the shop lied to the customer to have a strong relationship with sammit. This car was too clean and a shop said the motor was poop😂
Hey sammit I’m in New Jersey my buddy has an 3600hp mk4 rhd supra that he built just to cruise around and he’s constantly either parting 3rd or 4th gen’s or fixing them up to flip but he’s literally the guy to go when you need any oem mk4 supra part you can imagine
May understands why the Supra is so cool. Yes, its fast af and makes all the cool sounds but that 3.0 drives really well at highway speeds thanks to its low revs and its reasonably comfortable for a jdm sports car👌
Excellent 👌🏻 on owning vehicles around your age, I am nearly finished building my original build date - November 1980 - I was born Christmas Day 1980...its a 1981 model Honda XR200R, it's a "era correct aftermarket" "restomod", has a totally rebuilt 2004 FTR 223 engine, basically the latest and last to date itteration of the same engine, high lift cam, Psychic Valves, Athena 233cc cylinder and forged piston, Wossner Conrod, WRP crank bearings, CRF230 uprated clutch plates, pro-com 10,000rpm CDI, custom over bore stainless down pipe, carbon through bore A16 exhausts tail pipe and a XR250 carb with a pod filter 😬 its in my bedroom waiting for the rear shock and me to build the rear wheel fit tyre fit motor ~ BaRp BaRp ~
That sounds like a wore out throw out bearing to me. My cavalier back in the day had a getrag transmission and I was hearing that noise. Got so used to it I didn't notice it anymore till one day I pushed in the clutch and it popped and drained the clutch/ brake fluid. Out of the reservoir and out the bell housing onto the ground.
Better check the trans and diff fluid and just put suspension on it and drive it for a while. worry about paint etc next year.. Stop carrying what randoms tell you what you should be doing with your cars. I think that is the throw out bearing, its from sitting
i have found all but the hood and front fenders for this thing on the web even magazines didnt have it i probably need to look more but the entire rear is a veilside kit spoiler and rear bottom things
The idle dropping when you clutch in is a bit concerning. When that happened in my car it turned out the engine had crank walk. This side to side play could also be causing stress and noise in the transmission. The clutch is only connected to the engine at that point and not electronically controlled. I really hope it's something simple, but just sharing my knowledge and experience from what happened to my car
We difenitely need a second factory confetti recaro, would look so much cleaner
Cock-pick.
Yup
They're loud transmissions in general, especially depending on clutch, but get the specific Toyota gearbox oil in there asap
This right here
Definitely make sure to do this, toyotas are very specific about that
Yes, these trans are quite noisy in general, The most common issue is the release bearing rattles under low load.
There's only 2 oils to use in this box stock and royle purple
these Surpa videos are impossible to watch without smiling man im so happy for yall enjoy!
If the car tries to stall when you push the clutch in, it could be putting a lot of axial load on the crank with the crazy clutch, causing it to want to stall. NO WAY, IS THAT A SUUUUPRA !? Banger intro
Ain’t no way sammit got a supra before a R34 GTR
Supra is just better
@@slayer8426not really and I am a supra fanboy
R34s are crazy expensive now. almost impossible to get a decent one for a fair price
@@slayer8426 I’m just saying he’s been wanting a 34 gtr for yearssss now
He has an r32
The plate with the red strike though it is the coolest part
yeah Japan's temp tag are cool
I love the intentionally 'cringe' intro. It's important to have fun with the videos
cringe? who's cringing here, that was a beautiful representation of absolutely everyone who cant afford one or dreams and will one day accomplish the dream
You dropped the ball on that one bro. Your girl is standing there waiting to hear that she looks way better than the car, regardless of how old each is.
Yup lol
Guys will be guys lol, but she is 10/10, SAMMIT is a very lucky guy to have her
Lol, he also often totally ignores what she's saying and just talks over her. Like at 21:25. I don't really care, but it's pretty obvious.

thanks chatgpt lol
He needs to remap that button for antilag haha
So with this car it would only slow throttle response. He has a manual transmission.
That is for an auto, and someone who tries to drive in a tiny bit of snow in Ireland it isn't much use anyway.
It's a manual.. how would it start in second??
Engine is good. Power steering has a clogged screen at the bottom of the reservoir. It is causing the pump to run out of fluid and cavitation results.. Clean and run fresh fluid and it should work. we need late night supra highway runs
Meanwhile Sammits sponsers >_>
Congratulations Sam life goals coming together
Man that first drive must’ve been surreal man that’s so cool!
9:24, 3 inch is definitely not tiny.
Thats what HE said.
4 inches is average 😏
Every car making more than 300 horsepower will benefit from a 3.5 or 4 inch exhaust especially turbo cars
The clock is a common thing to brake the digital one from the pre facelift is more reliable I believe but the clocks are pricy for what they are
the mk4 does not weigh 3tons, it weighs 1650kg with full fueltank/oil/water etc
Had a clutch sounded that way. It's a bad throw out bearing. I've driven one similar and the transmissions are quite AF
Mai cracks me up 😂😂she has a contagious laugh
When she called it a wife beater LMFAO genuine funny reaction from Sam
Sam brother you deserve this car so much!! I'm SOOOO happy to see how clean this thing is!! Been waiting for this video for over a week now, I can't wait to see it drive!! 😁

It's a bad throw out bearing. I've got the same noise coming from my Altezza & I need to replace it & the pressure plate too.
Your girlfriend enjoying the ergonomy of the car is so relatable.
Can't wait for the jackets to get in I pre-ordered mine back in September when they went up. They look awesome!
To see that beautiful car moving on its own power and hearing it and seeing the defi gauges im in love ❤
As for the aero, I'd love to see it with different fenders and a paint matched hood, that hood.
No bride seat get a recaro confetti. The car deserves its original style seat back in there.
I can hardly wait to see Sam and his dad going for a drive in the Supra. Sentimental moment.
Super cool car, from what I know as well Smokey's top speed car was the RB as well
Fair to say Sam.. you've cracked it! Look forward to the Supra content!
Those are worn out hood struts because good ones will FOLD or crack the hood prob. Just make a hood prop work for it. I've had my share of light-weight fiberglass hoods.

The Supra engine does sounds healthy still. I hope it is as well.
Happy for you, that you all like the car! 💯
Let your girlfriend talk bro😂😂 keep cutting her off🤣🤣
congrats again Sam, iit looks pretty much mint
You can fit 335s in the rear in the stock rear guards
Hopefully Sam can get with one of his friends in Japan who is heavy into the Supra scene and have them do a "proper" inspection. MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE HAS THE SAME STYLE DASH I HAD TWO TURBO ONES AND THEY WERE AWESOME FELT LIKE A FIGHTER JET!
Steering wheel is 👍
I still remember when you bought that spark plug cover… and now it’s like it was meant to be.
I think the wheel offset is not supra friendly.
I've run 295s easily with no rubbing
I'm guessing the engine is fine as it's in stock form, but willing to bet compression is a tiny bit low from use over all these years.
I cant be the only one that thinks the shop lied to the customer to have a strong relationship with sammit. This car was too clean and a shop said the motor was poop😂
