  • In the past couple of years, Liverpool FC has become the Liverpool that your Grandfather always told you about.
A few short years ago, Liverpool were in the midst of a sustained banter era. Fast forward to today, and the Merseyside giants are once again one of the greatest teams on the planet.
    But how did this happen?

Personally as a LFC fan I have grown to love "The Slip" I embrace it because without it we never get Klopp We win the league that year FSG probably keeps BR on and never hire Klopp. So in some ways the slip was the pebble that started the snowball rolling down hill.

As a United fan I remember fans bandying Klopp as a potential successor for Sir Alex when he left. Behind Guadiola and Mourinho of course. Liverpool did well to get him and work with his strengths. I think Woodward would have wasted Klopp if he had been signed instead of Moyes.
What I respect about Klopp is something he and all great managers have. He has great working relationships with all the staff and this is how he gets the best out of the players who have been carefully selected. Regardless of criteria used to select potential recruits there is a blend of characters that form a winning squad. Anyone that disrupts this is moved on or not signed. Same with any long term successful club. It is always impressive as the consistency in form is a repetative behaviour, almost a group hypnosis and peer pressure conformity. Klopp's management is a key part of the Liverpool success.

Watching Klopp turn young unpolished gems and forgotten players into world class stars has been a joy…Mane was a Nobody, and Salah was a Chelsea reject barely scoring 10 goals a season for Roma! And under Klopp theg became two of the best players in prem history….

As a Liverpool supporter, losing the title by 1 point twice, and losing 2 CL finals has been hard to swallow. But then you remember 10 years ago, and realize how incredible the last 5 years have been. And I think we are lucky that our owners are very involved into the club and want success, not just money ! In the Premier League, I think we have the best owners to be fair. They're rarely mentioned because we don'tt see them much, and people dislike owners in general, but ours have done very good choice recently.
But as you said, of course Klopp is the n°1 reason of the success ! I think he's the best manager in the world. Who can take a top8 team (especially in the PL) and make it one of the 2 best in 3 years? Who can maintain such a level during several years like he's done in 2 clubs now. He's the best man-manager, this is for sure. The players love him, and therefore love playing at Liverpool. But he's also a great tactician, with his own unique style.
I wish for him to stay as long as he wants and has the motivation.
Then maybe we'll have Gerrard? He seems to be a good manager already. And he's a respected figure for the players.
Anyway, I see success for more years to come.
Klopp has replaced departing players well. You mentioned the core of the 2017-2021 team. But players like Thiago, Jota, Konate, Diaz are doing very well, as will Nuñez I'm sure, and young players have emerged like Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott. I'm confident Klopp can successfully manage the transition from one core team to the next, making changes slowly, one or two important players each year, to replace the older and departing ones.

They hired this supposed genius from a rival team to help revamp their team and his main attribute was cutting cost but also getting value for the money spent. In 2020 they traded one of the best players on their team and in all of MLB, Mookie Betts, to the LA Dodgers because they didn’t want to pay him ( he signed a 12 year 365 million contract with LA). Now in 2022 the team is in a weird place. Many of their homegrown talent are seeking new contracts and negotiations have been sort of rough. Baseball is a risk averse sport without relegation, champions league, etc like in football. You can pay someone a couple million a year and still get similar revenues as paying someone like Mookie, Devers, or Bogaerts 30m + a year. This is clearly why Henry was pro Super League. agreed but it's difficult to imagine how we are gonna bounce back next season , especially in the manner in which lost both the league to Man City AND the Champions League to our nemesis Real Madrid.
while Carvalho and Nunez are excellent additions but the departure of Sadio Mane is a big blow.
yes, we may have won both domestic cups but let's be real, that was not even our primary aim. Most heavyweights focus on domestic league or the Champions League.

Tbf, it must be horrible for Liverpool fans who’ve watched Man Utd win for years while they struggled. Then when they have got the best team in their life, they STILL can’t win the league because of City! They have got 1 PL, but they 100% have been unlucky and if they’d have got Klopp sooner they would’ve had 3, 4, 5 leagues!!

Klopp says to me the other day, "I'm really happy you told me to get these 2".
I told him, "Look J. K. you don't need to thank me, you just get the best out of them".
    And he nodded in agreement.
The thing is I knew these players before. So I knew their strengths. Salah is going to be brilliant this year as he is now settled. he told me this only yesterday.
Nunez will take a few weeks to fully settle in.
But I can give you my personal assurance, that once they are settled, this team will not lose a single game.

As a Boston Red Sox fan, we aren’t near the level of the ‘18 team, which in my opinion seeing that im only 16, is the best team I’ve ever personally witnessed. So understandable to say the least that we’ve fallen off a bit, we were below average in 2019, horrid in 2020, which saw our new “sporting director” brought in. One of his first moves was trading fan favorite Mookie Betts, because we wanted to lower our payroll, and we got a decent return, but last year we made it to the semi final of the playoffs, in my opinion choking it to the Astros. This season has been a rollercoaster, we’ve lost 11 of our last 14 games and find ourselves sitting at 50-50 the problem in my opinion has been injuries because before we have been hit with injuries we had a stretch where we were 25-5. But yeah it should be interesting where we go from here

I love Klopp and I really liked this video, but I would like to emphasize that the 14/15 season, BVB didn't finished 7th because they were 'unlucky', in December 2014 Borussia Dortmund were in the Relegation zone after a REALLY bad first half of the season, thanks to Lewandowski leaving, the main goal threat was now gone and Aubameyang was back then used more as a Right Winger, Ciro Immobile was bought and supposed Lewa replacement but only scored 3 goals all season (2 against 3. Liga side Dynamo Dresden), Borussia Dortmund Board in January publicly announced they wouldn't fire Klopp under any circumstances and I don't know how the second season they were able to get 7th plus a DFB Pokal final against Wolfsburg (which we lost 3-1 if I'm not mistaken), it was a hard season to watch specially being a BVB fan, but it wasn't 'unlucky' by any means.
FUN FACT: after finishing 7th and Runner Up, BVB was granted a spot in the Europa League, to which they lost to Klopp's Liverpool in a unforgettable 4-3 match at Anfield where Dejan Lovren scored a header at the 95' to ensure Liverpool would go to the final.

    A few baseball bits here:
Fenway Sports Group were founded in 2001 that took ownership of the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox are one of the most famous teams in baseball history, being the original home of Babe Ruth and also having stars like Ted Williams. However, they had not won a World Series since 1918 and had only won won the American League championship 4 times in that time: 1946, '67, ''75, and '86 (the last of which they lost when the series-winning ball went through the legs of Bill Buckner... basically their version of The Slip, but bigger). Since then, they have won the American League 4 times: 2004, '07, '13, and '18, and have won the World Series each of those 4 years. So they've made a HUGE improvement under FSG.
Also, Sabermetrics was originally called SABRmetrics, because it was from the Society for American Baseball Research and was coined by Bill James, who is a statistician who endeavored to try and use statistics to determine what tended to cause teams to win or lose more often than they should. In 2003, he was hired to work with the Red Sox, and helped them toward those 4 World Series Championships. He innovated a number of advanced stats which are often used today and was even named as one of TIme's 100 Most Influential People In The World in 2006.

As of 27/07/2022, the Red Sox are currently last in their division and are on a bit of a losing streak, where they've recently lost 28 to 5 which is a rare and high margin in baseball, and for the past few nights have made comedic defensive errors that make them look like an amateur team
This is surprising considering that in 2021, they were a step away from reaching the World Series, the main championship game for the title in MLB. But to be honest, the Red Sox are one of those strange organizations that literally go from the very bottom to the very top and back to the bottom. Just an up and down team to say the least, but even with such performances, I think it's separate from the football world considering Liverpool doesn't go from winning the league to finishing near relegation. They're at least consistent unlike the Red Sox, which in the end comes down to the different structures in Major League Baseball and the world of Club Football.
