It's not only about the crazy comeback - it's about who Liverpool did it to! Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Cafu, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Rui Costa, Kaka, Crespo, Inzaghi, Shevchenko, Dida, etc. and a top class manager, Ancelotti.

As a Milan fan, I couldn't watch football for the next 3 months after that match, and only recently re-watched the highlights in the past months. Even though we won the 2007, it wasn't exactly a "revenge". I was just delighted for a Champions League triumph, rather than revenge. Come on it’s kind of obvious bandwagon bullshit when someone says something like they’re favorite teams are Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Like based on what? What connects those two teams in any way whatsoever? Where’s the consistency there? And why isn’t your favorite two teams say Real Betis and Everton? Because they don’t win enough. Because you have nothing to connect you to your “favorite” teams. Btw I’ve read like 20 comments and literally 3 of them say Liverpool and Real Madrid are their two favorite teams. Gee what are the odds? Lol. Those teams just happen to be playing each other in this years final and they seem to be everyone’s two all time favorite teams. You don’t have to support your home town team but... We’ll you better have a good reason you don’t. I’m from LA. My favorite teams are the Lakers, the Dodgers, and because we didn’t have a football team for so long and my mom is from Boston and my favorite two players are Tom Brady and Randy Moss, the Patriots. I don’t have a favorite soccer team. I root for Barca a lot because their style of play and Messi. And I love the city in general. One of my favorites and I’ve been all over. But now Messi is gone. Anyway do you think I care even close to the amount about Barca as I do the Lakers or Dodgers? No. As it should be. And once agin it’s no coincidence all these peoples favorite teams are the winningest teams. That’s not what being a real fan is about.

    • @benhaney9629
      @benhaney9629 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Trust me the people who have been Man City fans their whole lives. Born and raised in Manchester. Lived through decades of being shit and getting shit on by Man U every year. Finally get to see Man City win. They’ve got a hell of a lot more emotion tied up in the team than all the recent bandwagoners. And the joy they feel at Man City winning after watching them lose for so long... It doesn’t even compare to what the new fans who have never even been to Manchester and never lived through all the losing feel. You can’t even compare the two fans. Sure they’re both fans but come on...
Just as the true fans of Barca. Lifelong citizens of Barcelona. Truly understand, not just intellectually but emotionally, the social political ramifications of their Barca fandom. They had grandparents who fought for Republicans in the Spanish Civil War. Had family that was persecuted by Franco. Maybe they were persecuted by Franco themselves. Real Madrid versus Barcelona represents all that and more. Do you really think I would be so naive and disrespectful to say I appreciate Barca on the level they do simply because their style of play appeals to me, Messi is the goat, and I find the cities architecture beautiful, it’s food delicious, it’s people lively? No. So yeah. True fans exist. And when you say shit like your favorite teams are Man City, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern. Even people that say they like two teams where liking both is mutually exclusive. I hear people say their favorite teams are Real Madrid and Barcelona. Come on. Besides real fans don’t have like 2, 3, 4 favorite teams. They have one. And it’s usually their home town team.

Being a Liverpool fan is a tragedy. You take the highs, but you also have to accept the lows.
Liverpool don't do things the easy way.
The euphoria of The Miracle at Istanbul, the Tragedy of Hillsborough and Hysel, years of mediocrity.
The agony of losing the league by 1 point, the sadness of loss at Kiev, but renewed vigour the next season, winning all the major trophies from Champions League, Club World Cup to League title #19, then the down of covid and decimated squad from injuries.
The Ups and Downs, you take it, because this is the Liverpool Way.
Being a Liverpool fan is a tragedy.
But how ALIVE you feel when you lost to Barcelona 3-0 in the first leg, nobody gave you a chance in the 2nd leg, no Salah, no Firmino, Robertson injured and replaced in 2nd half by Wijnaldum, Milner took over LB, and when the first goal goes in, your heart pound faster, then the 2nd, and 3rd, you are praying for a miracle, then the 4th goal went in, you heart stopped, your brain froze, you couldn't believe it happened!
Being a Liverpool fan is a tragedy.
But you LIVE for those moments.
You are ALIVE in those moments.
    This is Liverpool.
    This means more.

This is about my third time watching this video and that very game was played a little over a week past my 6th birthday and in all honesty I hadn't watched a great deal of football at that age and the culture which I was bought up in doesn't consider football as significant ...... Anyway this game changed my life in a way as it was a game that made me love football and more importantly made me a Liverpool fan ....That very game also confirms that the impossible can be made possible only if you believe it is and never give up ...... Liverpool football club also made me grow and develop as a person as the historic games they have played have proven that we are not limited to possibilities with this game being at the heart of it all ..... I know this is a very long comment posted almost 9 months after the video was released and I am telling anyone who will read this 8 years to come that people may point at your flaws and failed dreams and your hideous history but remember you are significant ,your dreams are valid and your past is only a staircase to a future which only you can imagine ...... Thank you Tinashe for the video and the history and everything ,, your work is great and I get more impressed every time I watch this ..... You are the best...ICONIC

@@FootballIconic I respect the 1999 final, especially since they won the treble. It’s a great achievement. But we’ve seen that happen before, a team that leads most of the game at the very end concedes two late goals and loses. But I’ve never seen such a great team like that Milan team and such a mediocre team like the Liverpool team. I still don’t know how they won

As far as I remember, Owen leaving Liverpool had nothing to do with Rafa Benitez. He has declined to renew his contract when Gerard Houlier was at the club because Liverpool were not competing against Arsenal and Man Utd. Owen never played any minute under Rafa Benitez, at least not in an official match.

@ 26:54 - There's the reason why AC Milan lost this game. Shevchenko cursed it for his team mates because you're not supposed to touch the trophy unless you win it. You can see Shevchenko kiss his hand and touch the cup, and ironically it was him who missed the deciding penalty in the shootout that gave Liverpool the European Cup. I never noticed that before. in the first half .....the system stank; there was no link between defence/midfield with the attack. it was so obvious. Benitez had played wrong system and had to change this with bringing on D.Hamann; the link of the team was restored and within 15-20 mins of the restart it was 3-3.
