It’s about time that someone defends the original beautiful creations of the past, Mugler, for sure! I am sick of the fakery and horrible mediocrity the big industry now pumps out and grabs the unsuspecting person’s coins. Bravo, Thomas, for speaking the truth!
This is why I wish Clarins had held on to Thierry Mugler brand. They gave it autonomy and independence. Thats why the fragrances then were magnifique. Not so much anymore under L'Oréal
Sebastian the perfume guy had the same review. He warned people as well.

I walked into Ulta, saw it and thought “ooohhh, lemme check it out!” I smelled it, thought it was ok, never gave it another thought. 🤷🏻♀️ Everything is an “elixir” these days. 🙄

I agree with you on this darling. Not everyone can create a masterpiece and not everyone can appreciate one. And honestly, I think it's partly the consumer's fault. We buy more than ever out of compulsion. It's less about the quality and more about the quantity.
Very true and a counterpoint that's being missed. We the people feed the cycle in a parasitic symbiosis with the creator. Stop buying en masse, and they'll have to stop making. Sadly, these major brands have people on payroll specifically to find and aggressively target new markets in other demos/countries, so they rarely feel the sting.

Pure Malt was one of my favorites ever. I don't understand why companies like mugler take away their best reviewed fragrances and only pump out these mediocre new ones. Polo red extreme is another example, very well liked and reviewed, then they bin it for a new version that sucks. Anyone understand why fragrance companies throw the old ones out? Can't they just keep what works whilst still experimenting with the new?
I hope they are showing this video in L'Oréal's marketing department. 😁

This was their opportunity to supercharge the caramel or patchouli orrrrrr add whipped cream orrrr aldehydes in some way. Maybe add a honey overdose or even just simplify the formula for a more dense parfum like Angel edp. We should all send emails to the perfumers and loreal. Luckily I’ve stockpiled a lifetime of Angel and Angel refill canisters.
This is my opinion....L'Oréal stop commissioning Anne Flipo (especially!) to create the same sweet, vanillin, white florals! All recent releases are so similar, its FUCKING LAZY, makes fun of your customers and makes fun of the perfumers! I'm bored of L'ORÉAL's mediocrity. I can go on and on buts it's not worth the energy. I agree this brand is declining, may it crumble and THAT'S MY OPINION!!!!!
They ruined Angel. The original was soooo much more complex and beautiful! I tried recent reformulations and this elixir. Thumbs down. I wish they would stop ruining originals. L'Oreal , You're not Thierry Mugler. Yes, it's straight up INSULTING.
I am so angry with L’Oreal, they have ruined the OG Angel and Alien, also my beloved A*Men. Luckily, I have a couple of the OG vintage Stars and and many of the Flankers. L’Oréal has also discontinued Angel Muse! Why? Nova is another travesty! Such a shame.
I’m agree with you 💯 percent. The bottle is gorgeous. But where is the angels DNA. Smells so generic, like spray from bath and body works. Terrible
This is horrific, boring overwhelming bourbon vanilla to me. I tried it in one shop, hated it. Sales assistant in the next store picked it up and both my daughter and I said 'No way, it's a mess'. We both like the OG though as it used to be my signature scent.

I recently drank real and wonderful chinese Jasmin tee and the smell brang back, why I love jasminsmell so much and that it has nothing to do with Jasmin in so many perfumes!

This makes me really sad. The original perfumer (Olivier Cresp?). Can’t understand why a huge company/conglomerate can’t do something about this, to honour the legacy of Thierry Mugler.

I ❤ your honest review and understand your frustration with today's market when it comes to designer perfumes. Apsolutely legitimate opinion. I don't see anyone being offended by this review. It made me laugh, "new intergalactic woman" had me LOL. Great review.
Wonderfully honest review! I was wildly obssessed with the original Angel & of course Thiery Mugler himself. Nothing but disappointments since they'd changed the formula. Such a shame for this corporation to tarnish his legacy this way.
Totally agree, I’m a huge fan of the original Angel from a decade ago, but the last few years I’ve received Angel as a birthday or Christmas gift, I thought something is definitely wrong here. The colour of the blue juice is different,almost greenish & the scent doesn’t last. I used to get at least 2 compliments a day or more when I wore the original but absolutely no compliments with the new formula. Very disappointing & a real shame 😢 Why fix something that ain’t broken?
I agree that it’s a cash grab on unsuspecting diehards that buy for their collection bc the cost is high. Omg. $160CAD 😳. I’m one of those die hards, but I can’t justify that amount.

It'd be interesting if you could look into catalog of those two perfumers, cause it's somewhat hard for me to believe it's only brand's fault. Obviously I could be wrong, but on the other hand one of the perfumers, according to Fragrantica, made 27!!!! La Vie Est Belle flankers, so she seems fine doing just that.

I smelt it, utterly forgettable and not connected to original Angel in any way.

It’s crazy we get angry about perfume but as I said… as consumers we are not dumb. Certain companies think we are though. :(
I am so disappointed in this fragrance. So generic and boring. I completely agree with your opinion.
Reflexively re-sprayed my pre-L’Oreal Angel EDP. I haven’t sought out any Muglers since the switch, but have had some samples included in promos from Macys. They’re fine, but they don’t hold a candle to OG Angel and Alien.

I own the original Angel...and the original Alien. Thanks...now i will stick to those. Even though they may be reformulated but i waited 15 years to purchase mine. Im happy. I prefer Angel ..true 90s baby...keep well❤
I 100% agree with everything you are saying. I sprayed Elixir in a dept. store and I didn’t even care to test it on my skin. So boring and generic! I hate what L’Oreal has done with the brand. They discontinued Womanity and then come out with this, Alien Goddess and Angel Nova? Nothing but generic, safe “crowd pleasers.” I don’t mind an occasional crowd pleaser, but for L’Oreal to discontinue or water down Mugler’s more unique scents is such a shame.

Okay, on to the topic of Mugler. I was never interested in the Thierry Mugler brand. First of all, I was physically assaulted by a woman wearing Angel. The way she wore it, it was just too much. She single-handedly kept me away from ever wanting to test it. Then when Alien came out, the marketing was too out there for me. It just didn’t speak to me and I was still traumatized. As we all aged, I became willing to approach perfumes that previously offended me. So I played with things like Shalimar, Clinique Aromatics, Chanel No5, and all Thierry Mugler fragrances. I was fortunate to at least catch them when produced by Clarin. All of my various Angels, Aliens, A*mens are from CFG. Maybe CFG did reformulate Angel, but in my case, it worked out. I like a softer Angel. I love all of the Angel Muses. I still don’t quite know how I feel about Alien. I must have been physically assaulted by that one at some point as well. I can appreciate it though.
I have no interest in any of them produced by the ‘L’ is for losers group. However, Alien Goddess Intense is nice enough.
I checked out of designer fragrances a long time ago. Flanker after flanker, all smelling like something you already own, inflated prices, poor longevity… I miss the days where a designer fragrance actually broke the mould 😢.

I feel that it is not an elixir. The longevity is of an EDP and although it smells good there is nothing special in it. Just another ordinary perfume. A lost opportunity of creating a best seller
It's Angel for people who don't like Angel! Ugh. They've had some real dud lately.
I finally smelled this in store (after my sample didn’t arrive) and I was so angry, disappointed and just plain didn’t like it. Why didn’t they release it under a new name. Shame on them!! It’s awful, because it’s so boring and smelled more like a black opium or vie et belle flanker. Shame shame shame. It could’ve been a masterpiece! Elixir, do they know what an elixir is?
The original Angel is one of my go to's and you're right companies keep remaking things thinking it is better and it is not. I have one extension of Angel, I forget the name but mainly got it b/c it came in a globe bottle with the old school squeeze pumps like old hollywood; however, the fragrance over time became alcohol smelling not like the original that I can put up for a min come back and it still smells wonderful. I love the original so much that I would go on the Mugler site and buy the refills myself to refill my own bottles instead og going to the store, saved a lot of money that way. And I love that they would send me samples and gifts all the time. Anyhoo said all that to say, yes the original is the best. I will have to check out the Angel licquer (I think that's what you said), that you mentioned, IF they still make it b/c I stopped getting into all the different ones so long ago. I was so excited to try this one i use Angel since the 90s and still rock it in 2023 day time evning clubbing dates still love it reformulated yes but still project and smell the same and when i smell this "Elixir" in aeroport nearly blind buy becouse i was sure i will love it...i was in shock i trough i spray on my hand a nother parfume boring scent nothing special about it just a cheep smell not even 1% of Angel in that botle i was sooo disappointed for and Angel fan to come with such a parfume and call it Angel SHAME on Mulger what they did with this brand shame shame shame

I don’t mind jasmine on a commercial level, but this is just vapid and calling it elixir is insulting. Blind buy this for your sister who adored the original and she may damn well throw her glass of wine and ruin Christmas.

This sounds indeed like a complete disappointment of a perfume. What I find it really infuriating are brands releasing fragrances that are thoroughly substandard and charging quite a high price. It is just disrespectful to the customer and to the art of perfumery. So many brands have no integrity and are focused on sales. I really do hope that people watch this video and at least try before they buy!😮
I loved how it smelled I’m really into florals,Mugler, is usually too strong for me I was suprised.

I’m such a fan of the original Angel - and I have to say, I adore Angel Nova too. Although Nova is so different from the og, they are both two of my favorite fragrances in my collection.

I read other comments about us consumers being partly to blame and I do agree. We impulsively buy (that's me!!!). Call me crazy, but isn't this the EXACT same thing they did with the whole Alien/Goddess/Intense creations? If that's the case, they should be popping out "something" that will be "different" but will mostly possess the Angel DNA here in the near future. What they are doing is just gross and it is very, very infuriating!!
Great video! This is giving me crowd-pleaser Alien Goddess Intense vibes; similar fake jasmine and bourbon vanilla combo. Nowadays everything is called "Elixir" or "Le Parfum" or "Intense."
Ohh Thomas, loved this review. I'm not buying it, no way, uh uh not gonna happen, lol. I'm happy with my original Angel and my 2 bottles of Angel Liquor of which I was almost going to sell my backup bottle as I have sooo many perfumes to try to wear before death. Depends on your skin! What is the original angel supposed to smell like? Everyone disagrees with me and says it's sweet? On me it's very very spicey, like one of those really old style mens aftershaves...
I tried Elixer today and I could only really smell vanilla, sandlewood and amber which actually I don't mind because those are my top notes for perfumes when looking for fragrance for myself and I felt they blended well together but still remained distinctive (could still smell all three).
I feel like this one could be maybe more unisex? Idk, it just doesn't feel like the smell belongs specific to female or male to me. I'm a bit mixed on that. It does start off very sweet but that lasted about 10 minutes before it went smoky. Then the vanilla stayed really subtle.
I don't usually like spin off's on originals. I have the original Alien and i've not even been tempted to try the remixes. But I like the bottle on this so I tested it out earlier today and I fell in love with it.
The smell lasts a long time but isn't very strong like the other mugler fragrances. When I use Alien I can still smell it on my jacket a week later just as strong as when I just apply it.
What I don't like, as it's said in the video, this is marketed off a famous brand which is nothing like this one and the quality is nowhere near the original in longevity yet it is priced as the original. Maybe more because it is a newer 'version'.
They are using the name angel to sell a very watered down, cheaper quality fragrance at the high end value of the original.
I have a family member who works at the airport and gets fragrances and other things at 70% discount so I will get it through them but I would absolutely not pay the full price for this, even though it's been a long time since I smelt a fragrance I like this much. The quality just isn't there.

I so agree with your thoughts on companies’ cash-grabbing strategies. Ultimately, I think this will backfire in the long run. I’ve worn the original Daisy by Marc Jacobs for years. My mum recently bought me another bottle, only this time it was edp instead of edt. Unbeknownst to her the edp is a sickly rip off of BR540 (like so many frags these days!). She thought she was being generous by getting edp. We had to return to it because it was not to my taste at all and so far from the original Daisy.
These brands are undermining themselves. True lovers of the originals will be disappointed by new flankers and new buyers who like the flankers will end up disappointed once they’re discontinued. There’s no loyalty or integrity anymore :(
Mugler when Clarins owned it, nothing compared. The best formulations before Loreal took it over. 🙄🫣

I love the original Angel, I have an old bottle from early 2000’s and Alien and I love and have two Angel Muse.
OMG I couldn't agree with you more!!! How can anything called Angel not have patchouli? The Mugler brand is being destroyed by these new fragrances...I bought the dark blue icicle travel spray only because I am collecting all of them and they are refillable, not because of the disappointing Angel Elixir inside.

Original Angel still one of my fav fragrances
I hated the original angel at first. It took me a long time to appreciate the genius of it. I tried the extract. When I gave it time to develop, I realized how beautiful it was. Sadly, I couldn’t afford it then and now it doesn’t smell the same. I wear the new one once in awhile, but never bought a fb. If only L’Oreal could comprehend the support they would receive if they made something close to the original. The new one has this weird shower note that’s a bit gross.
Oh I love your rants. I have to admit, I used to love Angel, and then I bought a new bottle last year and have completely turned around. Now I hate it and as I don‘t have the original anymore I can‘t really remember how it was different. I don‘t even bother with new flankers anymore, neither Angel or Alien. I might try them in the shop but won‘t get my hopes up. Ooh come to think of it, I have an Angel clone from Aldi (called Guardian) and tried that one again last night and like it more than I liked the bottle I bought last year. Odd.

Haha, I watched your review yesterday and had to hunt this down for a test spray today as I was very intrigued! To my (unsophisticated and untrained) nose it smells mostly of sun cream, and a basic one at that. Soul of an Angel it is not🙄😂

I'm so glad you said what you said because I feel the exact same way! Such a disappointing release 😞. I personally prefer angel muse as I can't get along with angel or alien but I can still appreciate they're unique and broke the mould.
