Sebastian, was there EVER an Angel 100 ml shooting star bottle? I could swear my (broken) bottle my husband gave me in 1992 (!) was a 3.4. I’m trying to replace that bottle but I can’t find an empty anywhere…now I’m doubting my faculties. I’d be so grateful for any info!!

Angel Elixir is priced at £125 for 100ml here in the UK! For just a few pounds more I can get something amazing and interesting from Maison Violet, L'Orchestre Parfum, Olfactive Studio and brands around that price point. It's a no brainer for me

I’ve been wearing Angel for 24 years now, and it really saddens me to see what is happening under L’Oreal. Thankfully, I stocked up in the early 2000s because it’s one of my favorite fragrances and almost a signature scent, but I have absolutely no desire to try this new perfume. When I think elixir I think stronger and more intense, not some charming white floral. Thank you for expressing sentiments I share, Sebastian, and thank you for keeping it real.
The original Angel was my trip into the fragrance rabbit hole … so sad what’s become of it. I stocked up on the original juice with some refillable bottles to try to delay its demise. 😢😊 thanks for staying real Sebastian👍🏽

Thanks so much, Sebastian, for your well-articulated and honest review. For those of us who remember the original, it really is a shame that this new release is using the name Angel while having no connection to the scent profile of the original! I really can’t believe it has no patchouli, that’s just wrong!
I am a big fan of the original, powerful Angel and I am so happy I have had a chance to purchase big bottle of edp still marked Thierry Muggler rather than Muggler. It is so disappointing that they have destroyed all of the iconic fragrances from this house, which was my favourite for years! Thank you Sebastian for your review👍🏼👌
I've worn Angel since it first came out. I've tried other perfumes over the years, and only when I wear Angel do people ask what I am wearing, and tell me how wonderful I smell!

Hi Sebastian - I am a fan of the original Angel (EDP and EDT). Back in the day, I received a lot of compliments because of Angel and was followed by a couple of men to find out what fragrance that I was wearing. I agree with you - I refuse to buy designer fragrance and have decided to purchase “niche” fragrances instead.

I will never want to wear a "crowd pleaser" I want to wear what I want to wear. Angel is a gorgeous scent. I own it and love it. Elixir won't see me

I am someone who's formative years were the 80's and 90's with the powerhouse perfumes. Personally, I think our current environment of scent-free workplaces, growth of unscented/non-scented movement, and overall sensitization to scents lots of people conform by using weaker formulations that are more 'crowd pleasing". I am very self-concious on which fragrances I choose to wear in the office, so if I want to smell good, I reach for my weaker, softer perfumes that are not really going to offend people. At the same time, it gets boring so I like to try things that are maybe just a tad different. This is where the big designers make money...for us bored people who cling to minute differences but not so severe that it will alienate us from the masses. *shrug* perhaps naming it Angel, they think people like me can say "Oh I get to wear Angel to the office now" or onboard a new generation to the brand that have sensitive noses and just slowly attrition out the oldies.

And they discontinued such a great and unique perfume, Angel Muse. All this is so disrespectful to Mugler, his perfume creations should be cherished as a cultural heritage. Not to mention the hate L'Oreal gets, because people are not idiots, and they are treated as such with this cheap and pathetic L'Oreal impostors.

I bought Angel a couple of weeks ago. It doesn’t even last anymore. I will never buy it again. They ruined it. The only thing that’s good now is Angel muse, but it won’t be long till they ruin that one

I feel you, but sadly change is the only constant in life, in reality we are the minority, every one of my friends thinks I'm crazy for having more than 5 fragrances, people just want to smell good and big companies just want a profit, thank God for the niche brands that still make more unique fantastic fragrances, I think there always be a market for them and that's hope for us that love the art of perfumery. I have a 100ml from 2012 that I feel lucky enough to have. Angel was my signature for the better part of a decade and I’m sad that it’ll be difficult to return to it with the true juice.
I picked up Angel Nova a few days ago and it’s nice enough, but nothing like the legendary Angel.
It's interesting to learn about some of the financial strategies that a lot of brands use to piggy back on the names of some of their most successful fragrances.
Me personally, I've never climbed onto the Angel bang wagon, can't say why. Although, of late, my interest has been piqued with regards to Angel Muse and Angel Nova.

Darn! It would have been nice to have the original Angel back!! I wore it as my signature scent back in the early 90's!! Very polarizing and I loved that about it!! Loved it soooo much!! Oh well....
Hi Sebastian! I don’t have Angel Elixir and based on your review, I’ll try it but I most likely not going to buy it. I still have a 2010 1.7 oz Thierry Mugler Angel that is almost gone, I cherish it so much it was my signature scent in the early 2000. Thanks for your honesty and yes I’m turning more to niche because designers are just the same thing over and over again.

I loved to wear Womanity and the original Angel. Still have an OLD old bottle with a teaspoon of liquid in it, I spray it on my arm from time to time when I’m feeling nostalgic (it is still a powerhouse but quite off…😅)
I completely agree with this opinion. I tried Elixir this week and what a massive disappointment it was. I bought "Angel" in 1996, I don't even know how many stars I've used so far. I had great expectations when I saw the elixir version, I thought "Damn, the patchouli and chocolate must be really pumped up there"... White flowers galore.. What is this? The funeral of Angel?

They really are living off their name at this point. A relative of mine who will rarely buy fragrances went straight for Mugler Alien Man when we entered a store and I remember being so perplexed as to why he settled on that. It's only because he had owned other Mugler fragrance years ago and so Mugler fragrances must be the best? That's when I realized brand association is real!
I was curious and nearly purchased it as a treat for myself but decided to watch your review first ! And I’m so glad I did! I was disappointed with Nova after “treating” myself so I will steer clear of this one ! As an original Angel fan I’d be interested to know what perfume you would recommend? I’m currently enjoying Arianna Grande cloud , but find it a bit too plasticky??
Great review! I definitely think I’ll be passing on this one. I’ve been a fan of the original Angel since I was about 17, and although quite different from the original, have completely fallen in love with Angel Nova. It’s very unfortunate that this fragrance is just so underwhelming. I really thought it’d retain some of the magic that is in the original (that being the patchouli)
many of the designer perfumes are releasing flankers under popular releases with differing intensities. My hope is that the Angel line does not have the ultimate intensity version released yet. Angel Elixir only has 3 of the 4 bubbles filled under the intensity. I am hoping that they do release a scent that is worthy of the Angel name sake. That performs like the OG but is disturbingly different and intense. One can only hope
The patchouli in Angel EDP is very dirty to my nose. It’s a blast of stinky armpit 😢 I’ve worn it both applied to my skin and as just a couple sprays on my clothes, just to test if the fragrance doesn’t mix well with my body chemistry. And it’s stinky both ways, so I think it has to do with how my nose processes the patchouli lol. The dry down on Angel is GORGEOUS though - the patchouli mostly disappears and I get an intense, deep spicy chocolate smell. Once I suffer through the opening lol, I really enjoy the dry down I’m left with.
Angel Elixir is one of my new favorite fall/winter scents. But I agree with you - if you’re looking for something with the heartbeat of the original Angel, Elixir isn’t gonna give it. I like that the patchouli is missing in Elixir, since my nose doesn’t like it in Angel. Elixir is much more of a “friendly” gourmand. I feel like Elixir should’ve been branded as it’s own, stand alone fragrance and not as an Angel flanker.
I have a bottle of Muse, but that's really all I'm thinking about for them. Maybe trying out original Angel EDP or possibly the EDT. I've smelled Nova, and was not impressed at all.
Classic Angel is totally my vibe. I grew up in the 80’s BIG scents, so OG Angel seemed actually “soft” if you can believe it. My brand new husband bought me Angel as a Christmas present in 1993 - I loved it then and now. I think Elixir may be a good layering scent. It’s a strong metallic while OG had its “natural” patch bite. Time will tell - long live Angel!!

100% my thoughts also!! I wanted patchouli!!! I’m not going to bother picking this one up. So disappointing. I love the original angel and missed out on alot or the flankers . I was hoping it would be an Angel extrait like you said. 😢😢

I think the year was 1996 or 1997, my friend had taken on a new look she started wearing shorter skirts and becoming a little bit more trendy and I remember distinctly countering her in a department store and one of the things I noticed about her a was her fragrance. she was wearing “that fragrance” (Angel). And even though I swear I was about 6 to 10 feet away from her you could smell that aura around her, that’s sweet vanilla and patchouli that created a distinct aura around wearer, it was like an event. But what I also remember is that even though the fragrance was enormous, it brought back the focus to the person who was wearing it. So you know on some level that the person had to have a bold spirit even if they appeared quiet.
Mr Sebastian you should try new Chopard fragrance Cedar Malaki(there is patchuli😋) created by Alberto Morillas. It smells realy nice.
There have been a lot of discontinuations under L'Oreal brands that have pissed me off lately. Giorgio Armani has discontinued half of their great men's releases, YSL's randomly releasing and discontinuing stuff, and Mugler's down what they've done. It's very frustrating
The way Mugler cut their entire men's line, they should do women's fragrances only...
Hi 👋🏽 I have Angel Elixir it is a crowd pleasing vanilla that I like. I agree with you. It's no original Angel. ORIGINAL ANGEL was special. This is going to blend into the crowd. It's almost a vanilla for the "clean girl."

I'm surprised you felt like it didn't last because on me it lasts so long two sprays and I can smell it all day and night. I also get vanilla bourbon and sandalwood the most once it sits for a while.
It's so sad the fame and image of a legendary Angel perfume is being slowly killed by releases of flankers like this one :(
I don’t appreciate the no Patchouli I love Original Angel I’m really not into crowd pleasing and simple fragrances and I expect more from Mugler regardless who owns them currently Thierry Mugler was an extraordinary fragrance house I miss that 😢

I absolutely dislike the original Angel. I don't like patchouli and that's why I think i love Elixir so much. Yes it is a white floral perfume but I don't think it's a boring perfume and it doesn't remind me of any other perfume. I'm definitely gonna purchase it

Good question! I think L’Oreal is the worst with this they like blending in rather than standing out, especially when it comes to their mass releases. Everything start smelling the same. It’s annoying. Changed a little bit and call it something new. No thank you!

I think this is what happens in general on the market (whether it’s fashion or music or cinema... even publishing).
Nowadays it’s so hard to stand in the market if you’re a small business. No surprise then big conglomerates kill creativity. Because - as Latins used to say - «ars non dat panem», which means if you want to make money you got to low the quality to please the average audience. That’s why some brands (maybe too avant-garde or experimental) are forced to join cosmetics groups, they just want to survive.
And I know that from personal experience.
Can you do an updated Mugler faves? I found A*Men Kryptomint for a great deal, and I’m so excited! I want to get more Mugler!

Yep they're all the same but I've felt like that for a very long time even with women and it's what propelled me into niche and brought me here years and years ago.

Yes I am curious about trying the Angel Elixir but I don’t know why, lol. 😂 Nowadays, in the designer perfume world it’s all about the mass appeal with the least amount of effort. So are we surprised no more uniqueness and no more stunning trail from a fragrance. 😢
Angel and Alien are very polarizing and usually people are either a fan of one or the other not both…usually…until perhaps now when the new Angel smells more like Alien 😉
So sad the original Angel is gone. I still have one bottle of the original and barely wear it. Once it’s gone I will never smell it. Wish they would bring the Original Angel under Clarins back 😢

I bought this I opened the box thinking as you it would be better. It smells like bath and body bourbon/ whiskey line. I am returning it today. I didn’t even bother to try it.

Hey! I received my angel last week. Although I enjoy the fragrance, I was very disappointed. Missing the patchouli was the first letdown, but I figured this extreme amber thing would make up for it. I thought maybe they were trying to please or gain the non-patchouli lovers. The first time I wore it, I got a spicy kinda vanilla with a lil jasmine and woods that sat far in the background but the second time around it started to feel a lil more tropical with the ylang-ylang and vanilla being more prominent. It started to feel like one of the flankers like an iced star or another one of the eau croisiers. Angel Elixir where?!! 🤯 I'm gonna wear it though but it won't be a repurchase. Total letdown 😒 coming from an Angel lover.

The regular Angel is not even the same as the original. I have been wearing since it came out and they definitely changed it a couple of years ago. How many years ago. Every time I write a comment about they write back and they say that as a company they need to evolve. When did they change the original Angel?

So disappointed that L'Oreal has basically destroyed what may have been my favorite designer house, Mugler. Discontinuing all of the Men's flankers (orig A*Men was my scent for years, then Pure Leather, Then Pure Havane), and my wife's favorite for her, Alien Essence Absolue.

That’s how I feel abt designer fragrance too. All the men’s fragrances smell the same, and all the womens too. That why I stared looking into unisex or even women’s fragrances that smell unisex. And the og Angel does it for me as a man
This Angel elixir reminds me of Born in roma by Valentino. It is like muted and a bit chocolatey version of it. It lasts yes and it is nice but nothing new... And definetely not Angel dna in it.

i think Loreal rushed the development to keep up with the H&M x Mugler collab, while also saving on the additional marketing a brand new name would require by doing a flanker instead. plus theyve gotten away with it (alien) so little reputational damage 😢
I’m upset that they’re luring those of us who love & associate the blue star bottle with Angel EDP/EDT to a perfume that - due to the darker color liquid - we’d anticipate being something even more exciting; to something that instead doesn’t even embrace the same unique spirit. Confusing. Weird. Sad.
