I've not seen this film, but I need to now. I love how they talk about their characters, 25 years later, like old friends, and people they love and care about. Which in a way they are, coming from the mind of Cassevetes. This is just so sweet to watch.
As a lifelong film fan I'm embarrassed to admit I've finally discovered Gena Rowland's supreme talent as an actress after having just watched "A Woman Under the Influence" and "Gloria" on streaming. I don't recall ever seeing her Cassavetes movies in the video stores I used to work at, so her best work flew right under the radar.
I am watching the movie now on TH-cam and I was in the throws of that part with the doctor and I had to stop and I have to resume it because the acting was so intense and real. It is a very intense acting that jolts you, I was very moved emotionally.
Y is she so beautiful. There is only 1 other woman that has this type of beauty and you cant explain it in words., Eartha Kitt. The look in Ms. Rowlands eyes does it for me everytime.
same with me i’m 60 years old and was 10 when it came out i can’t believe i waited til just last week may 2024 to watch this absolute masterpiece . gena rowlands was absolutely stunning amd iccnat believe she did not win the oscar it’s a once in a lifetime performance.peter falk was as fantastic ge was infuriating as a husband trying to keep his wife afloat
Likewise, I couldn’t think straight for the next day. They put the deepest toughest most essential human emotions under the microscope and stretched them thin until they were shear. As Cassevetes puts it, “There’s a difference between liking someone and loving someone”
LOVE the hat story.....ha haaaaa! And what a great point about the unanswered phone. Would've loved to have a drink with Peter Falk. Can you imagine? Could listen to him all day.
for info Serge sauvion is a French actor and dubber, he is best known for having doubled the great peter falk in the series columbo and especially in a woman under the influence of john cassavetes knowing that peter falk is the favorite actor of the great john cassavetes
Gloria says...(Katherine was nick Cassavettes - Mom) in reality Gena, said A MAN BETWEN two women... (the mother in law and the wife)...I WAS TAKEN ABACK...😊😅😮😮🎉😂❤ I miss you already (my dad + I will muss you )
Its hard to watch, isn’t it? They did not try and pretty up any of the wacky dysfunction. Gena never got the acting awards and accolades she deserved. Ya gotta be in the “club,” and THEN ya get the goodies.
If you had to describe this film in just one word, what would it be? (My mom shared this film with me tonight and I have no words.) Hopefully someone can help me out.

Actually they are talking about how John Cassavetes directed their films - particularly the film they are talking about - and the originality of John as a director. So, they are talking about the Talent of John, the director.
Gena and Peter are unstoppable in Woman Under the Influence.

Gena Rowlands, fabulous actress! How is it she never ages? That's what, 2004? She's about 74 there! Wow! Amazing!💖She's gorgeous!
