    Last Friday, I went out with a plan, and another hunter beat me to it. So I took the same concept and applied it to a "less ideal" area of public land. 15 minutes after I settled in, I took my personal best buck! You just never know! Also, I give a lot of credit to THP. They are the reason I was hunting that piece of public, and the reason I set up where I did. Thank you!

    Hey guys, just wanted to thank you for all the great info. My boundary for the region where I always had antlerless tags moved to the east side of the Big Horn river. The public ground I hunt has about 3 acres on the east side, so I took my kayak in and went across the river for the evening hunt. It is a lot harder to control a kayak with a deer tied behind it, so I wound up floating a mile downstream because I underestimated the current. It all worked out great in the end, and I legally filled my tag without having to drive two or more hours. Gonna have to go back and watch you kayak vids to get a better idea on how to get a deer out though.

    9am on the firearm opener this year in our Michigan public land piece, and I get another hunter walking right through my prime bedding areas. I had 7 different bucks (three 8 pts) on film as recently as the week before. We just wrapped the season up and never had any more action in that location. Nothing on the hoof, no pics/videos, and no sign. That's living the public land life though.

    You be surprised how much a cigar will cover your sent. Especially in a blind. They aren't frightened by it like cigarettes. It's more of a natural wood burning smell to them. I had an accomplished wildlife photographer tell me that is how he started getting close up picks of big bucks.

    I live in Akron Ohio and I just recently started to hunt public land due to not being able to acquire private land permission. I would love to know your secret on how to find good public land hunting areas. I haven't had any luck on public land. If you could give me any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I am frustrated to the point of almost ready to call it quits.

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most public areas we find have got good hunting on them somewhere. Obviously some are better than others but we always seem to key in on bedding areas. The thicker the better in many cases. Sometimes spots like this can be right off the road but an area that most hunters have overlooked. Try to think outside the box and do something different than the rest of the people. Access a different way, hunt at different times, use their hunting pressure to push deer your direction, etc. Don't give up. Public land hunting is too much fun!

    Really enjoy your channel. Watching team hunting other states it’s sad to see how Ohio does not appreciate its resident hunters. 3 videos in Ohio and how many deer have you seen? Seems like more hunters than deer.ODNR has ran the public land deer herd into the ground with ridiculous tag limits and cheap non resident license. Really like how Iowa prices nonresident tags and has lottery system.

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being from Ohio and now being a resident of Iowa I would much rather live and hunt in Ohio. The challenge of learning an area that has actual hunting pressure is fun and realistic to the majority of public land hunters across the US. I like that non residents can come hunt. I love Ohio. I’d take it over Iowa any day. - Zach

    I was hunting public in oklahoma deep in, working a huge srape and rub line when around 7:30 am 6 other hunters just walk in right by me moving up wind. I said hi, they started talking shit to me. I couldn't figure how they got that far back with that much gear. They somehow gained access and drove most of the way. I think on private side. So I set up to play them bumping deer. (Note: Don't talk shit to someone if you don't know who you are talking to.)
