The invention of fracking created a boom in my state of North Dakota and the oil companies expect to find more oil under the fracking level but haven't begun looking for it because the technology to extract it hasn't been invented. We import gasoline and ligth oil.
Not only that but, due to corruption, we also have a shortage of domestic gas, meaning that even when you happen to have food in your house, most of the time, you have no way of cooking it. We also have a shortage of gasoline, you can easy google photos of people doing endless lines to be able to supply their cars. It's funny how a lot of the men who have ran our national oil company (PDVSA) have escaped the country after being exposed for stealing millions of dollars and yet...people choose to paint Maduro and his government as the victims.
For anybody who's interested Poland's reserve would be consumed within a day and a half by the entire global usage.

However, the US cares deeply about maintaining and growing its influence in the Americas, particularly to make it safe for US corporations to exploit the resources of other countries. Keep in mind these are proven reserves. * oil that can be produced feasibly based on current technology in known reservoirs.
As technology advances the amount of oil that can be recovered from a formation typically increases. Then these proven numbers should increase as well.
Example - shale oil.
What each country has in resevoir capacity and proven reserves is often quite different.
Example - the Green River formation in the USA...I have seen estimates as high as 3 trillion barrels.
I have also worked in Kazakhstan, and speculation on capacity is in excess of 200 billion barrels.
New discoveries are still happening as well.
In-situ reserves for Venezuela is actually 1,2 Trillion, i.e x 4 the ammount shown.
Better yet find out how many barrels a day Venezuela produces. To sit down to cry.

This is a dumb myth that the US is dependent on Saudi Arabia oil or venezuelan oil. Most of USA's oil is domestic! But when talking about imports of oil from other countries, this is how much they rank:
1. Canada
2. Mexico
3. Venezuela
4. Saudi Arabia
US could easily stop buying Saudi Arabian oil or even Venezuelan oil. It's just a dumb myth that people use it to bash America because they think US is needy of oil from foreign countries.

The column shown in this video is just "proven" reserves underground (that hasn't been pumped out): 300 Billion barrels. Proven reserves are basically those that could be recovered with current technology and which are also economically viable to do so. However, venezuelan total underground, "in-situ" (full total) reserves are actually four times that ammount: that is, 1.2 Trillion barrels. The column only shows 1/4 of the real full total. As recovery technology improves, proven reserves could be raised. More exploration could mean adding up to those 1.2 Trillion, and from that it then has to be calculated how much % out of that full total could be "proven" reserves (recoverable ammount).
