Makoto always felt the most defined out of the protags. He has his own mp3 player, and by extension, his own music taste, he has an actual backstory relevant to the main narrative, and his personality kinda is just how he acts as a silent protagonist. I'd love to see a protagonist with a more defined personality and character in P6. Btw great video man!
100%, I get that silent protags are Atlus' thing but I don't think it works as well for Persona as it does for mainline. Makoto is a major reason why I love P3 so much so the protags in P4 and 5 feel like wasted potential by comparison. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!
i feel the same way as you about the protagonist, he is his own character to me and i cant unsee that. with strega though i saw them as evil and my oppisition, but your take made me see it in a new way
Strega definitely are the antagonists in the traditional sense and their actions impact SEES heavily. I just don't absolutely love them for some reason, maybe beyond wanting to kick their ass for what they did to *redacted*
Oh that first clock appearance is *not* forced, trust me, I know because when it first popped up, I used a teleporter to leave the floor and change party members cuz I thought it was a special challenge, only to go back to said floor and the clock is no longer there after all. Felt like an utter dope let me tell you
You could never go downstairs in P3 (you can in P4), but yeah in Reload the floors stop randomly generating for that day when you reach them, so you can't get infinite chests like you can in the other versions of P3. I loved Tartarus soooo much in Reload, especially how it made the blocks much more even in terms of how long they are. The ways they changed the 3rd and 6th blocks were pretty cool too, tho I do miss the 3rd block's vivid staircases MAJOR FUUKA W!!!!!!!!!!! ABSOLUTE BEST NAVI IN EVERY WAY I AGREE! I think making her Theurgies random makes a lot of sense and works really well. I hate the random unprompted Ultra Charges and the game being balanced with how it actually works is so good. Her headphones are also sick Shuffle Time is pretty cool I agree but I don't like that you can't cancel it anymore, since I'm not a fan of the cards that increase your max stats since I like to avoid those (still took some of them by choice but eh) Being able to convert skill cards would be really cool, and I agree especially since you can duplicate any of them daily now at the shrine The love hotel has a room with 3 coffins on the bed and if you talk to them with Junpei he starts counting and gets really awkward which was super funny imo I played on Merciless and think the game is definitely too easy but at least that difficulty is pretty good for the most part Nyx Avatar's Death phase should've had like twice the HP imo Minor things I wish they kept from the original are the original Persona leitmotif no longer playing when Ikutski falls from Tartarus, and at the very end there isn't that single shot of her looking completely human. The last one I don't really mind bc it's really unnecessary with Aigis's arc but neither are big deals anyway at least The Linked Episodes are pretty good yeah, I don't like Akihiko's very much since it's really repetitive and it barely teaches you much about him, and I disagree with how Shinji's is handled; I don't like that you have to go against his wishes by telling him he has to give the form himself. It's foreshadowed well with what he says about him liking Makoto doesn't do exactly what he's told, but it felt weird with how Akihiko and Mitsuru acted like him not finishing high school (which is totally optional in Japan btw) was a form of suicide. I feel like they could've focused more on Shinjiro himself instead of this one barely relevant part of him
Thanks for clarity on the stairs thing, it's been a minute since I played FES. I love the makeover tartarus got, but I think I spent more time there than I needed to in the second half which led to some burnout. Fuuka supremacy! Really hoping this is how navis are handled going forward. Fair point on shuffle time, there were some times I wish I could cancel out. Difficulty wise Merciless is on the easy side, but it's weird cuz the individual systems feel very balanced to me. I'm wondering if there's an inherent limitation to the 1 More system that makes good difficulty hard to achieve. I agree Nyx Avatar should've had way more HP, though typically I find HP inflation on its own to feel like a cop out when it comes to increasing difficulty. I agree Akihiko's linked ep was just ok, he gets plenty of shine in the main story though so I didn't mind it much. But now that you mention it, we really don't get much out of Shinji as an individual. He's a pretty closed off character and isn't with SEES for long so it's understandable, but you'd think the linked ep would explore that more. I wonder if Makoto not getting to know Shinji super well is supposed to emphasize the theme of making the most of our time left; showcasing how easy it is to take that time for granted. Mitsuru and Makoto pushing the issue is a form of that, since Shinji was dying anyway so he knew graduating wouldn't matter. However, as a result of the pushing Shinji realizes he was taking his own time for granted by just bumming around, so he plans to go through with it for the sake of making his friends happy. Maybe I'm reaching with my analysis though, kinda just came up with that on the fly lol
@@CobraCodex Nah I think your analysis is what they were going for and I do like the idea and the final ep where it's just Makoto and Mitsuru in Shinji's room still hits hard, I just felt like it was patronizing and like the characters weren't seeing him well enough, not like he wanted them to but that side of things wasn't interrogated as much as I'd like
@@baconator_37 Usually when the game itself is on sale the DLC will be too on Steam at least. If you're excited to play it I say go for it once it comes out. I just wish I could buy Ep. Aigis separately and think it's scummy that it wasn't included for those who bought the expensive editions
@@CobraCodex yeah from what i’ve seen they are getting a lot of hate on the way they released it, which honestly deserved but i’m still gonna buy and play it
Damn this is long form! I am wanting to get around to this (it’s literally right there on Game Pass) but I just finished Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and started FFVII Rebirth and then Dragon’s Dogma 2. Might be a perfect game for May 😅
I'm a new Persona 3 player and Shinji scene in P3R was the first time a videogame made me cry out loud. I have my nitpicks about the pacing, Tartarus and the difficulty modes below Merciless but overall the game is 100% worth playing just for the story and characters alone. Having finished P4 and P5 a long time ago and even though I loved them, I could hardly remember any truly impactful scenes in those games. There were so many AMAZING character developments and interactions in P3R that it kinda ruined the P4, P5 and other jrpg casts for me.
Might shake up my character tier list plan, it's too difficult to rank so many characters at once in a way that makes sense.

Good to know it's avoidable for future playthroughs, ended up not being a big deal in the long run at least

holy shit episode aigis announced the second i finish this video😭😭
Just saw, can't wait for more P3 in a few months!
On second thought given it's not included for premium/Aigis edition folks, I may pass on Episode Aigis until it's at least on a steep sale.
