I am a driver guide for Holland America Princess during the summers. It is so enjoyable to watch these videos of people having the time of their lives, and me knowing I had a very small part in bringing them to this adventure. (Next time in Anchorage, try Humpy's Seafood Grill at 6th&F, a drivers favorite place to send guests to)
OMG, we are so excited you found our video!!! We are so grateful for all the tour guides and drivers during our trip. You truly made it one we will never forget. Every worker we talked to absolutely loved their job and it showed. Thank you for all you do ❤️. Thanks for the tip for Humpy's, we will definitely have to try it next time.
Thanks, so much. On our two previous trips, we were never cold, but we only did the cruise. Your video was very helpful and I have thrown knit hats /gloves into the packing pile.
Doing 7 day Royal Princess cruise/3 day rail to Denali thing next June 14-25th fir my 70th birthday! Im soooo excited. Loved your video and helpful links.
Thank you for your kind words!!! ❤️. We are so excited for you. This was such an amazing trip. I could have rode that dome train up and down Alaska for weeks 😁. Gorgeous views the whole time.
Oh, Amy!!! I am so excited for you to ride the Dome Train. That was one of my favorites!! The views are just amazing. I hope you have a great adventure. ❤️. Thanks for watching.
That is so sweet. You are going to have so much fun. It is truly an unbelievable adventure. Thanks for those kind words and making me smile and also thanks for watching ❤️
I am loving your videos! I'm so excited about the dome train. We will be on it for 9 hours from Anchorage to the princess lodge. Will be a long day, but I'm actually so looking forward to it... and a bar right there. Thank you for posting the menu. Drinks dont look too expensive. My husband said we'll be tanked by the time we get there haha
Pat, we are so excited for you and happy you enjoyed the video. The drinks were VERY good and we wanted to try them all also, but there was so much to see and the time goes by so fast. I hope you get a sunny and clear day. Everything is so beautiful. ❤️
Love the videos my wife and I and some friends are looking to go next June 2024 what made you choose this cruise line still watching the series that you put on TH-cam did you do a price breakdown would love more information Out of all the excursions you did which was the best if you Only had the budget to do one
Hi Aaron, Thanks for watching. I had all the same questions, so I will do my best answering them. We choose Princess for several reasons 1. They were going to Glacier Bay National Park, not all cruise lines can go there. 2. They have the private dome train between their lodges 3. Their price was the best. Excursion: we had 4 reserved and 3 were cancelled the day we got on the ship. We originally reserved to take a boat into Moose country in Skagway, but it got cancelled without reason so we took the Whitepass Railroad which was fun, but we REALLY wanted the Moose country excursion. Juneau we loved our Mendenhall Glacier hike. Others did whale watching and had amazing videos to share with us. But we felt since we see whales from our balcony every night we did the hiking. Our Rainforest trail hike in Ketchikan was disappointing, again it wasn't our first choice either, but we did see a momma bear with 2 cubs catching salmon which was pretty cute. In Denali the helicopter tour was our most disappointing. The helicopter ride was great, but Princess described it as tracking animals and it was more about plants. Definitely not worth the money. We wanted to take the 4 hour tour bus into Denali, but ran out of time. We did the free bus and got off and on at different hiking locations. To pick one excursion is hard, for sea I would pick Mendenhall visitor center with the waterfall. For land, tour bus in Denali National Park. I hope this helped a little. Let me know if you have any more questions and I will do my best. This is definitely a trip I would do again in a heartbeat. ❤️
Awe, this make me so happy!!!! Thank you for watching. I had to get all my papers out and look back because I couldn't remember. I do remember it was all confusing with the letters. We did the FAX tour. I don't know the difference between ours and yours. Either way, you are going to have an amazing trip. We are so exited for you!!! ❤️
Beautiful! We are looking at the same trip for this summer! I can't seem to find this information (maybe I would once we book), but what time did you arrive at each destination? Looks like some really long bus and train rides and it makes me wonder how long we'll have at each lodge!
Hi Michelle, That is a great question, I had to get out our travel summary they gave us 😁. We took a coach bus from Whittier to McKinley Lodge- off the ship at 8:30am - Arrived 2:30pm. We did stop for an hour and ate lunch at a Wasilla (11am). We arrived at McKinley lodge at 2:30 and left the next day 12:15, so we were there not even 24 hours. Took a 30 minute bus to Talkeetna for the 4 hour dome train ride. Arrived at Denali Princess Lodge 5:45pm on a Sunday and left 10am on a Tuesday. Took a coach bus from Denali Princess Lodge to Fairbanks (3 1/2 hours) arrived in Fairbanks at 1:30. Had the evening there and then bused to the airport the next day. Well, I hoped that somewhat helped you 😁. Thanks for watching. ❤️
Thank you for sharing. Those faces were priceless! Planning on doing the 13 day cruise and tour package with Princess ending in Anchorage, starting end July. Going to watch some of your other videos. Did you do any hiking in the national parks in denali? Can you book the tours directly with the national parks?
Denali is amazing. Yes, we did do hiking in Denali, I believe I show them in the video of Denali by Land and Air. We hiked after the helicopter excursion. You can book tours directly with the park when you get there. Go to the visitor center and they have all the types you can choose from. We did the free bus where you can get off and on all day and do your own hikes. The others buses that go further into the park, but you can't get off the bus. So you might not want those if you want to hike. I hope you have an adventure of a lifetime. ❤️
@@MileswithMcConkey thank you for your prompt reply. I am choosing to do the 13 day off the beaten path ending in Anchorage. WRT Denali how did you get from the Princess Lodge to the visitors center? Is that the free shuttle. I am going to watch your videos today. They are fun and I thank you for doing them for the rest of us. Warm regards from East Coast Canada
@@Panache4u2 I am so happy our videos could help you. There is a free shuttle from the Princess Lodge to the visitor center for you. Also, there is a bus called the Savage River Bus which is the free bus in the park that you can get off and on. We also did an article on our website www.mileswithmcconkey.com/your-complete-guide-to-denali-national-park-and-preserve/. This will give more details on the different buses inside Denali.
@@MileswithMcConkey wonderful. I so do appreciate your prompt helpful responses and will definitely check out the Denali guide as well! Thanks again! Peter
Julie, I posted a link to your youtube channel on Alaska on the Trekking the National Park website. Hope you dont mind..but think they can benefit from your videos and have a laugh at the same time
I am noticing your heavy clothng. We cruise first then the land portion beginning Aug. 30. Was it in the 40s or 50s? I've got to plan differently for our clothes.
Hi Maureen, You are taking the almost exact same adventure as us. I hate this saying, but "pack in layers". I am not sure if you have watched the whole series, but in those 12 days I wore a t-shirt all the way to a coat 😁. This one is a trip that had many packing challenges. You are comfortable in the first few days and then it gets colder as you reach the glaciers. Glacier Bay was freezing with rain. Then the last day in Fairbanks it was so warm we were back to shorts and t-shirts. The sun feels so warm, but the air is cold. I hope this helps a little bit. I have you have an amazing trip. ❤️
We went in August. I chose that for a chance to see the Northern Lights. We didn’t see them, but the ship behind us saw them twice, at Juneau and Ketchikan. I heard May is a good time also. I hope that helps a little. ❤️
Hi Cathy, I had the exact same question and couldn't find the answer. We didn't find out until we got to the land part, but no your food is not covered on the land part of the cruisetour. Sorry.
What month did you go? We are planning a September cruise and want to stay in Fairbanks a couple extra nights to hopefully catch the Northern Lights. Great video, thanks for sharing
Hi, we went in August. We had the same desire to see the Northern Lights, but never did get to see them. You can also see them on the ship. There is a guide that collects everyone's room number that wants to see them and if they are viewable then the guide calls your room so you don't miss them. The cruise ship behind us saw them twice. I do hope you get to see them, but for us it is still on the bucket list. ❤️
