I was told by several professional drummers that the key to making your programmed drums sound natural and human like is to remember that a drummer only has two hands and two feet. Meaning you don't want to layer up rim shots on top of a snare hit and a tom hit. Most bands or productions DO NOT play with multiple drummers. You can get away with a triangle or cow bell on top of your percussions because those are typical instruments a support player may play to enhance the drummer.

I think this series will help me a lot. It's so hard that I have creative ideas in my mind and actually very little idea of how to implement them! I think perhaps starting with drums will help. The drums might drive the rest of it to sound a lot better once I learn to do them better! One thing I am finding is that I use Ableton drum clips that I like. I might like the clip but it doesn't have the "soul" that I want for my project. Also the other problem with using the clip. It comes on a kit that has effects on it. I might have no idea what these effects are. I might have no idea how to turn them on and off if I want to do that either! One kit I used had a few synth hits on it. I thought those synth hits were cool. But somehow they had an effect on them which to me made them sound less cool! I didn't know how to undo that! So maybe starting out with making my own kits would be better!

So cool! Favorite tip is the choke for the hi hat cymbals. Had no idea that was an option and it adds so much.
