The motor in my boat is a marinized 540ci/600hp Ford truck engine with a 1050 Dominator carb. A very simple old school engine. The cam had to be changed to deal with the constant high rpm use in a boat but that was the only change. The Mast engine is the all-aluminum GM LS3 415ci/600hp block. It has multiport fuel injection and weighs between 500-600lbs. It would be the perfect engine for the outboard configuration. Recall that the Merc 300o/b weighs 515lbs and the 350SC weighs 630lbs.
The Scarab is 94 I believe with twin 454's that haven't been rebuilt and are running the original Rochester's. Now that I think about it the boat tops out at 80. Not 75. But. Two of these puppies on the back would be fun :D
The problems motors like that are they are Usually tweaked out to make those numbers, which means you can't mass produce them. Plus the turbo and SC motors are lower compression and milder cams= better idling around the dock and shifting them is easier.
Actually there is an well-known engine builder(Mast Marine) that has a 500lb 600hp naturally aspirated engine and I'm very surprised 7 Marine didn't talk to them before they pulled the trigger on this high dollar GM motor.
exactly but still all i would have to do is get a small block chevrolet and have the long block built to marine specs with a big cam and a nice edelbrock intake with a 750 double pumper and a higher pitch prop i could probably be closer to 80 or more
Three outboards wouldn't push a 100ft boat away from the dock much less out of the harbor. I don't know many 50ft boats, even center consoles, that use outboards for power. They run diesels usually.
I do believe these hulls are around 13K plus power, but not 100%. and yes if these engines are standard off the shelf supercharged cadillac motors then there is alot more then 600 to be had just with a pulley swap let alone blower porting or blower swaps
Can't believe how many videos I've watched of 1/4 million just for motors and NOT ONE has spent a few hundred $$$ on a good camera with a gimbal for steady video???
quite a difference, most of these people have high income(boat/engine on finance) or business's that the boats owned. so by the time the rich person is paying all thier boys and toys.. not much left lol
Thats a nice boat but Im happy with standard engines on my boat in the future. I like the sunsation 32 ccx you can get double or triple outboards on that one!
85k is only crazy when you don't have 85k to spend. like most of the people that make negative comments. MKelsho, try spell check! Mark Pee,try some celery!
You figures guys like Hennessey are cranking out 750 reliable HP all day long on there tune set ups. Shouldn't be too long before we see some big numbers...
Dont know about US, but in most other countries, speed at sea is measured in nautical knots (nautical mile per hour).... 1 kt=1.15mph=1.85km/h And 1NM is 1 radian minute or 60 radian minute is 1 degree latitude. Distance from equator to the pole is 90 degrees latitude. Logical, isn't it?
@omnifish2 you are right about power to weight ratio. But these motors are putting out over 500 up @ 1000 lbs each. But the need 225 @ 350 lbs still better power to weight ratio, but the motor are impressive. However there are more factors than just that.
Well those engines are 557 and they run a lot faster when you have the right prop for them as well as the right Trim for maxim speed but sadly this is just a test run
Ummm...no it wouldn't because this is on a pos 39 midnight that with more than a 50% increase in power only goes in the 70s. Don't think that all that power doesn't do anything, maybe it provides for a few more miles and hour, but that still makes it faster than the mercs
It's not easy to stuff a car engine into an outboard motor shell. I would think there's really no room for a turbo or a supercharger in there. Mercury did it but the 350SC shell is bigger than the 300XS. 7 Marine would have to redesign their shell for a SC.
Where's the breakdown on mph or knotsper hour versus gallons per mile? 4 cycle outboards burn slightly less than 1/10 their horse power rating in gallons per hour, e. g. 300HP will burn slightly less than 30 gallons/hour at WOT; There's a 39 foot yellowfin with triple 7's that has holds 540 gallons, it would need an offshore refueling depot if it ran even at 1/2 or greater throttle.
Amazing how you see all these videos of people riding in boats at these speeds with no safety gear whatsoever... as if nothing could happen to them! What do you think would happen to you if you fell out headfirst from a boat moving at 75mph? if you were lucky enough to live, you would most likely be knock unconscious and without a life jacket you would drown before the boat could get back to you. Too many people drown from boating mishaps because they didn't even think to wear a life jacket
74.3 not 73. Sorry I had to. While I find that number rather unimpressive keep in mind this is something like 13,000 lbs worth of boat. not a stripped down offshore boat with almost 1700 HP. but I still find it unimpressive
samiam1150 No point really, just an example of wretched excess, 3000 lbs & $210,000 hanging off the transom there...why? Think of it as a plain BBC IO drive morphed into an Outboard. The benefits of an Outboard, lightweight, in-expensive, compact, powerful....this thing has none of those.
Hows about some of the people on board wearing life vests, helmets etc ? Seems to me they are way too cavalier with the way the performed those tests, especially in relatively enclosed waters ? Pretty irresponsible in my mind ?
Yeah maybe that heavy with the motors. It's not a bad number it's just not mind blowing. Like if the thing hit 80 you would like, holy shit that kicks ass. And I think once they turn the dial up on these motors your gonna see 600 plus HP.
The custom engine builders like Teague and Sterling and Potter get their lineup set and then mass-produce their engines. Mast does the same thing. It's not rocket science. Supercharged engines need much different cams than turbo motors do because the nature of the charger is to try to tear the engine apart. Turbocharged motors can use cams ground for n/a engines because the air circulation is much lower in speed and is recirculated from the exhaust. I would use a T/T engine instead of an SC.
Why would you want to use a carb on a big HP outboard?? Especially four of them like on this boat? They would all die every time you shifted them, a real hassle around the docks. And besides, carbs are so last century old school. EFI is the only way to go. Computers smooth everything out and make for easy shifting around the docks because the engines stay lit.
I wonder if the engines will break off this one, as they did with the 5 engined Midnight Madness. The price of these three, could set you up with twin Ilmor 725's and ASD 8-6 drives, which would A) Be way faster on both cruise and top end, B) Sound better, C) Wheigh less, D) Be cheaper in upkeep, and D) Use much less fuel. Not to mention the ASD's are pretty much bullet proof. Why did they do this again?
I think you need to define mass produced. GM makes 10s of thousands of LS cadillac motors. Sterling might make 4 a month... The RnD behind GM motors takes millions of dollars. Even Mercury spends millions on research. Your saying it's not rocket science but it's only because someone blazed a trail for you and I, try to give a little credit.
That would be a crushing blow to my ego if the screen was in Kt-or-Knots.......Buuuut it's in M.h Miles.per hour.= 73.1 which is diplayed on the chartplotter screen. Did you eat paint chips when you were a kid.?? lol
I don't think I'll ever have enough money to argue any side of it, but it's a pretty cool outboard.
The motor in my boat is a marinized 540ci/600hp Ford truck engine with a 1050 Dominator carb. A very simple old school engine. The cam had to be changed to deal with the constant high rpm use in a boat but that was the only change.

That's a 39 foot boat, and 73 knots is 85 mph, and, he's in the water.
Do you swim faster than you ride your bicycle?
A lot of haters. I don't care I have a 10 ft jon boat and a 45 trolling motor. I'm happy and and feel blessed
nice.. you go. love small boats in tight area's.
Your last name is mexican, you claim haters and you said you're blessed. I don't like you
coolboy3able you got one weird name, did your parents not like you? I like you any ways... O.o You too Jeremiah....
They considered byrysh but they still wanted me to have a chance
Jeremiah Gonzalez WOW
exactly but still all i would have to do is get a small block chevrolet and have the long block built to marine specs with a big cam and a nice edelbrock intake with a 750 double pumper and a higher pitch prop i could probably be closer to 80 or more
best thing here would be the fact that its cooling system using outside water to cool a closed loop system, thats worth a million right there
WOW once you got them trimmed out they looked awesome...
Yeah, I was just being silly. There are times on our lakes here in Oklahoma that I won't go out due to the wave height.
Thats quite a scary sound of those machines
Gas tank size? Premium gas or what? Gallons to the mile? Range?
Three outboards wouldn't push a 100ft boat away from the dock much less out of the harbor. I don't know many 50ft boats, even center consoles, that use outboards for power. They run diesels usually.
I think 2 of these should but that Scarab into the 80's... But your right it is a 40 foot boat.
I do believe these hulls are around 13K plus power, but not 100%. and yes if these engines are standard off the shelf supercharged cadillac motors then there is alot more then 600 to be had just with a pulley swap let alone blower porting or blower swaps
Hello sorry abt my stupid question but know nothing about boats im curious what was the speed of this boat equivalent in miles?
I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do that to water
Can't believe how many videos I've watched of 1/4 million just for motors and NOT ONE has spent a few hundred $$$ on a good camera with a gimbal for steady video???
quite a difference, most of these people have high income(boat/engine on finance) or business's that the boats owned. so by the time the rich person is paying all thier boys and toys.. not much left lol

Never heard of that brand, who makes the motor?
+Bob Clancy seven marine
+Bob Clancy it is a chevy car motor built in to a boat motor set up
Cadillac Supercharged 6.2L V8 adapted for marine use.
smokin. Smooth.
What size and model boat?
how fast did you guys go?
what about the fact that my boat probably cost me 1/25th the price of this one and still isnt even 10 miles per hour slower
Glad everyone onboard was wearing life jackets, if anyone came out of that boat at that speed will surely be knocked out on impact with the water.
Fell off a rib going @ 62 knots.. didnt knock me out, hurt as hell though.
Nasty glad your ok and you must of had a life jacket on. Goes to prove it though, bad example from a boating magazine with no life jackets
I could almost hear the gas tank draining... *chuckle*
in 3 years you will never here of 7 marine outboard again. $85.000 per outboard is crazy!!!
Mercury Racing 1350's are $200,000 per engine and out drive (combo). Mercury is selling them like free beer.
if you have to ask you cant afford it.
no more,,,, a Mercury 350 costs $ 55,400 in Norway!
in a few years you will never hear from them again, because like most companies that try to make money off of chevy fails, because chevys are junk
85k is only crazy when you don't have 85k to spend. like most of the people that make negative comments. MKelsho, try spell check! Mark Pee,try some celery!
I think you are trying to say....you can have 10 motors but your not going any faster...only planing faster....???? is that right?
Yes a 2019 cigarette tirranna has 6 outboards and goes 72 mph topspeed.
I don't think anyone besides 7 Marine actually owns one.
Sounds great, but I'm not convinced the LSA is suitable for an outboard application.
$275k for a GM LS motor?!?!?! damn boats are expensive!
How much does one weigh?
That's 3000 lbs on the back of that boat. Hope the transom was reinforced
Probably more like 2000 lbs - the engines are all aluminum.
Each 557 weighs 1,045lbs.. So those 3 together weigh 3135lbs...
Yep..no lifejackets!! Pretty smart on a test run....
MAN that must have turned some heads
4 stroke yes?
Yes. These were built around a GM block.
Amazing
what's the boat max speed i think fast inoth to go true time
Wtf did u type can't read it its so misspelled
the sound of heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its a 39 ft fishing boat. Not a speed boat. Twin 454's take a 28ft Scarab 75mph. This is pretty awesome
Hauling ass 🔥🔥🔥
Seeing as how a 300 Merc is like 35g's. I don't even want to know what 3 of these cost.
Three of these? The wrong side of a quarter-million.
is that 74 knot or 74 mph?
Knots.
You figures guys like Hennessey are cranking out 750 reliable HP all day long on there tune set ups. Shouldn't be too long before we see some big numbers...
Wow...1,671 hp and he's proud to show 70 mph on the GPS. My in law's Stroker bass boat with the Merc 225 will do 95 mph with a single outboard.
Put a 557 on your bass boat and it would make your eye's bleed.
Dont know about US, but in most other countries, speed at sea is measured in nautical knots (nautical mile per hour).... 1 kt=1.15mph=1.85km/h
And 1NM is 1 radian minute or 60 radian minute is 1 degree latitude. Distance from equator to the pole is 90 degrees latitude. Logical, isn't it?
True but the GPS is reading in mph not in knots if looked at it correctly
@omnifish2 you are right about power to weight ratio. But these motors are putting out over 500 up @ 1000 lbs each. But the need 225 @ 350 lbs still better power to weight ratio, but the motor are impressive. However there are more factors than just that.
Wayne Bolton You call that boat "massive"?
Well those engines are 557 and they run a lot faster when you have the right prop for them as well as the right Trim for maxim speed but sadly this is just a test run

Would go that speed with triple merc 350 and burn less fuel
Nope, nice try.
Michael Quale come one stop
DID 74 IN MY BASS BOAT...WAY TOO FAST ! CRAZY
me too, once. Always kept it 65 or below after that.
Is that electric? It is fast anyways
No it has a super charged V8 :D
They are supercharged 6.2L GM LSA V8s, each putting out 557hp. The whirring sound you're hearing is the superchargers spooling.
"Is that electric?" Hahaha, had me rolling.
FiringlabGaming j.
+Logan Stanley Lol.... :D
200k for outboards - less than 50 dollars on a video camera. Why show the gauges if they can not be read?
three ????
Where's the breakdown on mph or knotsper hour versus gallons per mile? 4 cycle outboards burn slightly less than 1/10 their horse power rating in gallons per hour, e. g. 300HP will burn slightly less than 30 gallons/hour at WOT; There's a 39 foot yellowfin with triple 7's that has holds 540 gallons, it would need an offshore refueling depot if it ran even at 1/2 or greater throttle.
Does that mean thank you? If so I accept. :)
Hey I know for a fact that a Deep Impact 399 Open ran 86MPH with quad 350's
GM builds awesome motors.
Какая скорость?
Do these exist
yes but they are not on sale online, you would have to pick one up
Amazing how you see all these videos of people riding in boats at these speeds with no safety gear whatsoever... as if nothing could happen to them! are you kidding 73 mph is super fast in a boat my 34 foot sportfishing boat only does about 20 full speed
Lol
I HAD TO SUB
74.3 not 73. Sorry I had to. While I find that number rather unimpressive keep in mind this is something like 13,000 lbs worth of boat. not a stripped down offshore boat with almost 1700 HP. but I still find it unimpressive
That's the equivalent of 3 supercharged gmc sierras pushing the boat
1,671 HP and 73 MPH...?? Not sure what to think of that....
What's the point?
samiam1150 No point really, just an example of wretched excess, 3000 lbs & $210,000 hanging off the transom there...why? Think of it as a plain BBC IO drive morphed into an Outboard. The benefits of an Outboard, lightweight, in-expensive, compact, powerful....this thing has none of those.
nozebleed1 No, do you?....I can just recognize utter stupidity, seemingly when others cannot.
1671 Horsepower. I would hope to see faster numbers. Same money, different boat, more fun.
Yes, but you forgot about hydrodynamics and how that force affects top speed.
damn my 18 foot bass boat that i have about 3 grand invested in to does 65
The average guy would go broke just pushing gas through that power package for a single hour.

Good point. If you have megabucks to burn, this might be the ticket. For the rest of us, you get 80% of the way there on a fraction of the cost.
3 of them holy shit
He's doin 73 knots about 85mph
Why would you want to use a carb on a big HP outboard?? Especially four of them like on this boat? They would all die every time you shifted them, a real hassle around the docks. And besides, carbs are so last century old school. EFI is the only way to go. Computers smooth everything out and make for easy shifting around the docks because the engines stay lit.
Dam nice
I want one!
they should be able to shove a 50 foot boat the same speed
I wonder if the engines will break off this one, as they did with the 5 engined Midnight Madness. The price of these three, could set you up with twin Ilmor 725's and ASD 8-6 drives, which would A) Be way faster on both cruise and top end, B) Sound better, C) Wheigh less, D) Be cheaper in upkeep, and D) Use much less fuel. Plus the fuel savings and no blown legs...from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠
You can have 10 but your going faster. It just puts the boat on plan faster.
74 mph, and not one life vest among any of you.... good luck with all that...
Race it against 3 new evinrude 2 stroke engine! See how it compares too in drag and speed.
looks like fun, but about as practical as mammaries on a boar hog. How do you buy gas, by the tanker truck load.
Sure outboards are excellent motors, but they are an eyesore to behold. I'd much rather have my engine hidden below. Plus, the cost...the horror.
Much easier to repair, maintain and replace than an inboard setup, plus, you gain all of that interior space.
That's not a valid argument at all considering that's 200k just in motors.
Actually 3 Caddy CTSV'S sucks more fuel than our trucks do x 10
QUE PODER
Put a wind sock on your mic....
Very impressive motors, but the price is prohibitive for all but very wealthy individuals.
No too quick given there is supposedly 1600+hp hanging off the back.
It sounds like a jet nine
About 210K
I think you need to define mass produced. GM makes 10s of thousands of LS cadillac motors. Sterling might make 4 a month... The RnD behind GM motors takes millions of dollars. HARDCORE
Holy crap
I am on your front with my Yamaha 6 HP :D [sorry, wrong topic?] :D
That would be a crushing blow to my ego if the screen was in Kt-or-Knots.......Buuuut it's in M.h Miles.per hour.= 73.1 which is diplayed on the chartplotter screen. Did you eat paint chips when you were a kid.?? lol
they use a Cadillac engine 0.o
Nothing exceeds like excess! :)
